Let down by poor acting
31 January 2021
I am a little apprehensive about the authenticity of the reviews on this page. This is an honest user review with no affiliation to the film.

This movie is action-packed with some incredible CGI and was, overall, relatively entertaining. The story-line was not fantastic but okay, by all standards a typical alien invasion must-save-the-world-at-all-costs vibe. However, it was unfortunately let down by some very sub-par acting (unfortunately by some of the main characters), some bad script and so much flashing/CGI/chaos during war scenes that it was sometimes hard to keep up with what was going on (perhaps deliberate to create drama but sometimes felt overdone).

Overall, I would say that this was an improvement on the first film (particularly in terms of CGI and overall production quality) but still lacked in its choice of actors and script.

Fantastic movie - Great acting!
17 June 2014
This movie is one of the best movies I've seen across all genres.

The acting is fantastic (especially one of Tom Hank's very poignant final scenes) and the movie itself was captivating, exciting and based on a true story. It was great that the director was able to portray the pirates ("bad guys") in a way that made you hate them, feel sorry for them and hope for their survival all at the same time.

The story is portrayed really realistically and you're able to stay captivated throughout.

Definitely would recommend, I'd watch it again in a heartbeat.

Do not bother watching this movie.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE INTERESTING SOUNDING STORYLINE AND THE OKAY COVER.

This movie is the worst excuse for a movie I have ever seen. I don't know how it was released (let alone in movie stores) and I'm not even sure how it has gotten a rating of above 2 on IMDb.

The acting is horrendous, most elements of the movie are completely unrealistic and the final scene just makes the entire thing ever more confusing and far-fetched. There is no background, no attempt to help you build a connection to the characters and quite simply boasts awful acting, terrible filming and confusion. By the time the credits come, you're just left thinking "what did I even just watch?"

Don't even bother, this movie isn't worth your time.

Favourite book adaption to date!
17 June 2014
I am an avid book reader and I'm always skeptical about watching movie adaptions because they never really seem to do the book justice.

The Fault in Our Stars, on the other hand, was an incredibly poignant and inspiring movie that did the novel every bit of justice it deserved. The director was able to make the right moments incredibly sad (to the point of tears) other parts witty and funny without effecting the overall mood of the movie.

As a viewer, you are able to develop a deep connection to the characters and feel their emotions as though you're on the journey with them. You're able to fall in love with Hazel and Augustus and experience another take on dealing with disease from the perspective of a teen realist. It'll leave you wanting to watch it all over again!

Creepy, Great Storyline and a Good Scare!
17 June 2014
In recent times it's difficult to find horror movies that aren't either completely unrealistic or poorly done.

Oculus is a really interesting storyline that combines past and present (each tense could be a movie in its own!) and is able to keep you guessing about what you think you know and what's really going on.

Although it does have a supernatural element to it (which can usually tend to cause a movie to seem overly unrealistic), Oculus combines the supernatural theme with realistic events that keep you on your toes and are definitely able to give you a proper scare (which seems rare in horror movies these days).

I've watched a lot of horror/thriller movies, but this one is definitely one of my favourites!
