Ripley (2024)
The movie is miles better than this
Starting with the casting, which is atrocious (only Dakota Fanning is good for that role). Tom and Dickie, they're too old for the roles, they don't look like each other at all, no chemistry, no friendship between them, just dullness. And don't get me started with Freddie Miles, my god. Andre Scott is a good actor, but whomever though this was a good fit for the role, should be fired.
There's more substance, style and development in 2 hours of Anthony Minghella's movie than in 8 whole hours of this.
People calling this a masterpiece should watch the movie instead, it's better in every aspect.
One Day (2024)
They lack chemistry!
This is a romantic comedy, or supposed to be, but the main characters lack a tremendous amount of chemistry.
They try so hard to play the usual notes for this kind of content and genre, but they're out of tune and fail. After two episodes I just don't believe them as star-crossed lovers or even friends. I just don't care about them at all.
I don't know if I'd have the patience to check if this gets better if they did a poor job to keep me engaged to begin with. 14 episodes are just too much. Maybe I'll should watch the movie instead.
So, to recap, uninteresting, no chemistry at all and long.
Dear Edward (2023)
Started out pretty good. Went downhill from there
It started out pretty good but it quickly went downhill from there.
Some of the individual stories are more interesting (the congresswoman) or campy enough to enjoy (the rich woman). The rest are just meh, or plain awful, specially the leading kid. Sorry, but he's just insuferable.
What's the point with the whole "he's receiving letters" from all the promos and from that super corny opening credits? It's not part of the plot at all.
I dont know what's the story they want to tell, without an overall goal? Just characters living their life's for multiple seasons? That's not very entertaining, TBH. This could've been a movie instead.
Hello Tomorrow! (2023)
Great aesthetic... Bit it just doesn't work
Great production design and aesthetic (even if it just doesn't make any sense they have those technological advancements and having no clue at all or being so naive), but the story is... plain boring and uninteresting. I don't know what they want to tell with this one. Billy Cudrup is a great actor, but everything and everyone is wasted here. The rest of the cast (their characters) are insuferable. Every character, situation, dialogue feels way too artificial (and that's not the intention they had, I'm pretty sure).
I keep watching just waiting for some twist or something that justifies this series to exist, but halfway in I don't think it will ever come.
Needle in a Timestack (2021)
A great concept...
... they really don't do anything with.
It's a missed opportunity and the end result is pretty boring. It's not a bad movie either. Check if you're a fan of scifi though.
The Guilty (2021)
Good or Bad?
Is a movie a bad movie just because it's an exact copy of another one? No. If you haven't seen the original, or don't have access to it, you'll like this one a lot.
Can a movie, that's an exact copy of another one, be judged by its own merits? Well, that's the dilemma here.
No One Gets Out Alive (2021)
A promising start... but ruined.
That's a shame. The movie was already scary enough with the immigrants social drama and the guilt she fest over her mother's death. With a promising direction and a good atmosphere.
But the, totally ruined by a poorly executed, supernatural, sacrificial thing with the brothers. Not to mention a lame FX monster (did she really eat those heads with her... 🙄🤣).
Candyman (2021)
A very good direction, atmosphere and tone...
Ruined by an awful script. It's a shame, because this one had great potential.
The Voyeurs (2021)
Slightly above average guilty pleasure until...
Until that stupid, lame, too much of a twist.
Seriously, it's THAT bad. Ruined a perfectly fine movie with some interesting shots and edition decisions.
9/11: Inside the President's War Room (2021)
Rate the documentary, not the people
This work was pretty fine, whatever we think of the people involved in it.
American Horror Stories: Game Over (2021)
Wow. That was bad. And absurd. And lame.
This entire show has been awful.
It really needs new blood behind the scenes.
Dr. Death (2021)
Interesting and sickening, but ultimately botched
Pretty interesting, a little sickening and a good portrait of the character. But the narrative going back and forth all the time ends up being botched like his surgeries.
Settlers (2021)
What a waste of actors
Just there's no actual plot. Nothing. Don't waste your time.
The Skeleton Key (2005)
Not bad, but not great.
It has an interesting concept and atmosphere, but I think they could used it a lot better. It's more a psychological thriller than terror, and it doesn't use too much those "high noises from the music" to scare people, which I think this it's better than the rest. Kate Hudson does an OK job, and the rest of the cast too.
The beginning of the final act, with the first "surprise", looks a bit weird and stupid, but the final twist gives to the movie another point of view. I liked it, I think it worked, but I would prefer another kind of result for the movie instead of this one. If you accept the rules of the movie, and the rules of the end, it will work, but it's not the final story I'd wish.
So, like I said, it's not great, but it's worth watching.
Looks like this time in Spain we're luckier than you in this release date.
