Ben-Hur (1959)
One of my favorite classics!!!
Although I'm not a faithful person, I must admit that the story of Ben Hur is one of the greatest ever told and is moving for any person who likes (monumental) films!!
I first saw the movie when I was little child and it just blew me away. Since then I have seen it several times because it never gets boring and keeps you on the edge of your seat for the whole 220 minutes!
The technical perfection of this movie (especially the chariot race with its superb editing and cinematography) is not to be mentioned enough!! The actors are very good, especially Charlton Heston as Ben Hur, of course!
All in all this film will stay in my memory for the rest of my life and I'm sure that I will see it a few times more!
Carlito's Way (1993)
An underrated masterpiece from the Scarface-duo
After seen it several times, I must admit it gets better every time you watch it. I think the beginning was a nice little trick to make the film more unpredictable. The ending is very sad and "satisfying" at once. It's one of the best endings I have ever seen!
Pacino gives a great performance as Carlito Brigante who wants to start a new life and try to get his big love back after he has served 5 years in prison and had a life full of crime, drugs and murder. He wants to open a car-rental business and needs money to start it. But he can't get out of the vicious circle of his old friends! The real star of the movie is Sean Penn, who gives an Oscar worthy performance as Brigantes perfidious lawyer David Kleinfeld. I must say all of the actors gave a great performance, especially Penelope Ann Miller as Gail!
The cinematography is very well done. Especially the scene when he is in the bathroom, after his cousin gets killed and he shoots the 3 guys at the pool-table (which also is the DVD-cover)! Then, of course the magnificent ending/opening shot and another good example is the chase in the station!
Overall I think this movie should get more attention because it is a masterpiece which shows Pacino in one of his strongest roles and DePalma at his best!! If you haven't seen it so far, then quickly buy/watch it...Highly recommended!!
A Good Woman (2004)
Intelligent movie with a good cast!
I almost knew nothing about the movie before I saw it (including that it was an adaption of an Oscar Wilde play), so I had no expectations at all. But I must say that I was pleasantly surprised!
It had a very good script with some fine dialogs. (Although I think the German synchronization didn't work out that well -I would like to see it again, in English). But let me tell you more what I thought about the movie:
The movie creates a superb atmosphere with it's grandiose costumes, the great scenery and really good cinematography. The story is quite simple and a bit predictable! But the actors are fun to watch at, especially Scarlett Johansson and Helen Hunt. They both really act well and look unbelievable!
I can only recommend this movie...
Wu-Tang Clan: Disciples of the 36 Chambers, Chapter 2 (2004)
The clan back together
This DVD is a must for fans of the Wu-Tang Clan, like I am for over 7 years already!
I was amazed how the guys came together after such a long time and just rocked the show. I think they could even perform together as old men and still rock the house! The Concert features almost all the classics and some nice songs from the new stuff. I also liked the guest-appearance by Redman! I think Ghostface and Method Man gave the best performance, but they where all quiet good! Only O.D.B. was a little too "quiet" in my opinion! But I am so grateful that O.D.B. featured this concert.
R.I.P. Dirty Osirius!!!
I must say that the sound of the DVD was also pretty good! So if you like the WTC then this should be the next to watch! Check out the CD, too!!! (altough there are missing some songs from the concert!)
