Winter's Tale (2014)
Very underrated movie.
I have to said that before watch any movie that I have doubts, I look for the reviews, mostly here, and I could observe that opinions about Winter's Tale were too polarized, or You love it or You hate it, so I follow my instinct and give the film a chance, and didn't was a disappointed, all contrary, it was a good cinematographic experience, I think this movie is almost as good as Matthew Vaughn's Stardust, and equally underrated; Winter's Tale is a good story of good versus evil, involve with "fantasy", love, and if I may to say, honesty, I felt this story came from the heart, and I totally fell into that, I think the director accomplish to get that on the screen, and not only that, this movie really has more than meet the eye, and You could get a nice surprise while You watching it, for real.
Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (2013)
Just simple fun.
Alan Partridge is just a movie simple fun to watch, I didn't expect nothing more than that, and otherwise was more than I expected, I have a really nice time watching it, very good laughs with not complicated plot but nothing stupid neither (You know in the moronic style), I appreciate Steve Coogan give a twist on the same old clichés on this kind of movies, You expect something but the movie deliver other stuff, mostly with good results, it was in some way "refreshing", Coogan shows he respect us as an a clever audience, and the good writer he is, very keen and sharp, and his performance was on the same style, he fit perfect the character, the cynicism of Alan Partridge give us some of the most funny parts of the film.
I'am not going to tell details of the movie, I'm just going to tell you, if You like British comedy, and want to pass a good time, this movie can give you that, it doesn't matter that You don't' know Alan Partridge's TV series, You could watch it the same, I did.
Just, simple fun.
Only God Forgives (2013)
less is not always more.
When I saw Kristen Scott Thomas in this film, she remind me how gorgeous, sexy, hot, and desirable she was in The English Patient, the problem, nothing more in the film was better than that.
Some good direction skills, but not enough developed plot, I understand Nicolas Winding Refn wanted to create an atmosphere of a profound spiritual meaning in contrast with the "violence", but this wasn't successful, and the premise just remain in promise, not everything has to be a free interpretation by the spectator, Nicolas! (we already have David Lynch), You need to be more commitment with context, with plot, cause your movies have all the potential to be really good but at the end we don't have idea of what was that!
Les garçons et Guillaume, à table! (2013)
Best Comedy in Years
My little sister put this movie yesterday, I wasn't too convinced to watch it, but when pass just a few a minutes I have to say I was convinced, this movie is awesome, really great, I just not only laugh with the "situation" of Guillaume and the way he goes trough life, but reflexive too, perfect combination, a winner combo, the story was great, direction brilliant, soundtrack fit perfectly, and believe me the performance of Guillaume Gallienne is totally exceptional, all this generate the best comedy I ever seen in a really long time, and I mean in quality, I just have to say, if You love movies, if You really really love movies, You can't miss this, at all!
I give it a really deserved ten, thumbs up!
How I Live Now (2013)
Another underrated movie
When I saw this movie I really don't know what to expect and the result was a nicely sensation while I'm watching it, this movie is in some way refreshing, remind a little bit Cuaron's Children of Man, besides the apocalyptic scenario, the way of how the plot is develop, that makes you watch more, see what happen next, what they are going to do, what they are forced to do, they have a choice? they have a hope to survive? all this scenarios are very well condensed and faced with a love story and child spirit, this work out fine. what I like mostly of this movie is that You don't know for sure what twist is going to take and the way it flows was really good, that's a high point for the director. For me How I Live Now is an underrated movie (another one) for sure, I highly recommend, and we have the plus to see Soirse (pretty) Ronan, and off course the rest of the cast, Tom Holland, George MacKay, Harley Bird, they were really good.
Kick-Ass (2010)
One of the bests movies ever.
I saw this film in June 2013 and I have to say I was a complete fool for not seen it before, I mean it, this movie is brilliant, it have all the elements to consider it a Classic, a Masterpiece, it's very well directed, very well written, with a blow-minded acting, a great plot, great balance, fantastic soundtrack, absolutely all the elements in the movie work perfectly, it have the most beautiful balance I've ever seen; If you likes movies and don't mind about explicit language, some violence, and politically incorrect sense of humor (all critics about the movie lay down on that), and you want to see that elements working in a brilliant way, this is the movie can give you all that, and more, Kick-Ass deliver us an epic performance of the young actress (soon a legend), Chloë Grace Moretz, this child with only 11 years old at the time of the movie was shooting, totally owns the screen, and i'm not to exaggerate about it, in my opinion she has the greatest performance for a kid of her age ever, totally amazing, and believe me, all the cast were absolutely awesome, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicolas Cage, Mark Strong, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lindsy Fonseca, Clarke Duke, Michael Rispoli... they all did it beautiful, Nic Cage, Mark Strong and Aaron Taylor-Jhonson with significant roles, but she definitely steals the hole movie.
I really don't want to ruin you the experience of see this movie for the very first time if you didn't see it before, with details and spoilers, but whatever you think this movie is, it's so much better than that, so much better.
