Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
Brilliant and difficult to watch
I've just came out of the TIFF presentation of this film. Before going in, I assumed that little could be done with the story and the presentation would be one of cinematic sequences and sound. I wasn't wrong, and boy was I blown away (excuse the terrible pun).
After leaving the theatre, I'd say that it was more an experience than a film, one that at time I found difficult to witness. Not for the faint of heart, this isn't a film that'll be easy to forget.
Not having read the book but having seen its two predecessors, it's easy to get engulfed in the production and feel like you're seeing this story for the first time.
6 Underground (2019)
Product Placement: The Movie
Michael Bay and Ryan Reynolds pull off a brilliant two hour TV commercial for anything from Alfa Romeo to Bacardi, Red Bull and of course Reynolds' own Aviation Gin. On the plus side, it was free* on Netflix. On the minus side, it felt more like a phoned in caricature of Michael Bay action films and Ryan Reynolds' self aware script delivery.
Masha i Medved (2007)
A Classic Children's Tragedy
A non-verbal savant bear fosters a human child with ADHD and struggles to raise her in isolation from society. Unmedicated, Masha's behavior becomes increasingly erratic and the bear begins to question his decision. Contains violence and some adult situations.
Inside Out (2015)
Gripping psychological drama comedy action thriller
A young girl with a history of multiple personality disorder suffers a relapse after her traumatic relocation to an unfamiliar city.
The Boss Baby (2017)
A Psychological Thriller for Kids of All Ages
The story of an unmedicated paranoid schizophrenic boy, who places his newborn brother's life in mortal danger while attempting to live out a hallucination that puts his parents' employer at the centre of a plot to take over the world using genetically modified canines. Great family viewing. 9/10.
My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade (2006)
A Tour De Horse!
My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade was, is, and will be the film that inspires generations of filmmakers to build upon its benchmark of cinematic craftsmanship. There is neither nothing extra, nor nothing missing in this masterpiece. It's as if the director looked straight into my soul, and showed me the very essence of what I'm made of.
This film made me want to have children, so I could share it with them. I asked my downstairs neighbour if I can borrow his children for an afternoon so we can watch My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade together, but he looked at me kind of funny, so I told him that I was only joking. But I wasn't.
