Yet another waste..
8 August 2010
It's really sad, because the box promises so much. But, even for a low-budget production, as this clearly is, expecting actors to be able to act shouldn't be too much to ask.

It started off poor, and aside from a few grins now and again, just declined steadily from then on.

The effects are shoddy, even for a low budget. Pasty plastic glued to a mans face to make him look like a corpse, loses any shred of conviction when his hands are all fleshy and tan.

The acting is mediocre when it's at its very best, which it usually isn't. None of the characters are convincing, or even likable. The zombie kid, who couldn't stop laughing for the 3 second durations of shot, didn't help.

The violence is inconsistent. I don't mind bloody murder - it's a zombie-flick after all. But a zombie-punt goes from funny, to ridiculous, to just too much when they keep pounding for 30 seconds. And really, how hard do you have to strike someone - even a living dead - over the head with a golf club, to completely sever the top of their skull?

The music --- Well, better not to mention the music.

And the story. Well, it's a zombie movie, riddled with clichés, which in itself is fine - had they only been well executed.

And finally.. Seriously.. Fart jokes? One or two would've been okay. One or two for every 5 minutes of film, though?

In conclusion, just don't bother. Rewatch "Shaun of the Dead" or "Zombieland" instead.

A ridiculously overrated waste of two precious hours!
1 April 2010
I won't say much. How this movie has gained such a following, and inspired so many 8, 9 and 10 star reviews is truly beyond me.

Having sat through the whole thing, I am left with nothing but puzzlement, and a wish that I had spent my two hours doing something else entirely. What a waste.

The acting is mediocre at its best (and I usually like Schwarzenegger, not to mention James Earl Jones). The store is cliché, but okay, that's true of so many movies, good or bad. But it is poorly told, oftentimes not told at all. The scenes are grand, but the props often ridiculously bad, and the effects are laughable. The gore is plentiful, but poorly executed.

Don't waste your time, people.. And don't praise the movie just because "You're supposed to, it's a classic!" It's classically bad! 2 stars, because the soundtrack score was decent.

Inconsistent, unbelievable, and just bad.
28 February 2010
I'll make this pretty short, as other reviewers have already pointed out most of this..

This movie (which is titled "The End of the World" in my country, for reasons no one knows) is among the worst I have seen.. And I've watched through all of "Pterodactyl" as well as "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians"..

The acting is dubious at its very best. Brolin takes the prize with his slow, unconvincing reads, but the others aren't doing a lot better.

The setting - a future where the world is partially submerged due to global warming - is believable, but the environment and geography is far from it (going from L.A. to Rome in a trawler, anyone?). The premise seems to shift during the film, and one key element of the story changes its method radically, to the point where it is ridiculous.

All in all, I'm glad I borrowed this movie from a friend, so I didn't spend any money on it. I'd like my hour-and-a-half back, please.. At least the other two movies, mentioned above, - though bad - are so bad they're funny.. This is just excruciating!
