A Boy, a Girl and a Bike (1949)
A decent film badly let down with its ending
Some good performances from the cast, making this an enjoyable film straight from the Boys Own........but what on earth were they thinking with the abrupt ending? A few plot lines left completely unresolved and a complete change, without explanation, for the major plot line. Boy chases girl, wins her over, then all of a sudden, he gives her away??? What's that all about? Almost as if they ran out of money and had to edit an ending that would "fit".... such a shame.......
Cloud Atlas (2012)
Truly an epic to be watched again and again and again......
A film I missed at the cinema.......and how I regret it!
Having now seen it on bluray on my widescreen TV, I could watch it time and time again, without getting tired of it. It's a feast. The soundtrack is excellent, the visuals are stunning and the intermixed storyline is captivating. The characters are brilliantly played and in each of the timelines, are real and engaging. In most films you will see a character on a journey but in this film, their journey starts on one timeline and progresses into the next....... I realise it's not to everyone's taste. It is a different kind of film. You need to let it grow in your mind. It's scifi, its drama, it's adventure, it's comedy, it's action. It's like six short films in one but with a thread which links them all and means the jumping between timelines really works, once you realise what is happening. Some may struggle to stay with it beginning to end but for me it's epic and would be a worthy winner of some of the major film awards. I can't believe it missed out.
Can't understand some of the negative reviews but maybe short attention spans have something to do with it?
An understated masterpiece up there with the classics which will
