Cloud Atlas (2012)
Genuinely the worst film I have EVER seen!
3+ hours I will never get back. The plot centres.....in fact no it actually doesn't centre it slap dashingly flits from one zzzz inducing storyline to another.
None of these stories ever develop into much and none of the characters have enough time on screen for the viewer to care what fate befalls them. The story lines seemed almost childish, with plots often being predictable and Tom Hanks & Halle Berry (who struggles with any performance in my opinion )seem to think they are performing on stage rather than on screen. Tom Hanks portrayal of an Irish Gangster had me holding my face in disbelief. No one ever finds out how these plots are remotely connected and after 3+ hours this film ends with some slight reference to karma or past lives.
Much to do about absolutely NOTHING! Literally felt like I just kept repeatedly flicking the TV channel over. Seriously do not waste your time on this. Cloud Atlas is about as deep as a paddling pool!!!
Gravity (2013)
Atmospheric! Must see in 3D
Walked out of the cinema feeling like I had experienced something more than just a movie. Hats off to everyone involved in bringing this to the big screen. I have never been a fan of 3D but this is the type of movie 3D was made for. You literally feel like your up there among the stars with the characters. Which leads me to the cast. Again I have never been a fan of Sandra Bullock and grumbled immensely when she picked up her Oscar, however in this movie she excels. Some reviews have said that the storyline is weak. I strongly disagree. This isn't Dawson's Creek, no ones watching for a phsycoanalysis of the characters. A sub plot with a ton of dialect is definitely not needed. Also some reviews have complained about the musical score. Ridiculous. I don't often gush over any movie ( see other reviews ) but with Gravity I couldn't wait to share my thoughts. The must see of the year!!!!
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Too much romance ...not enough action
I think my summary says it all. Watchable but certainly not the performance Tobey Maguire gave. The castings bad. Emma Stone comes off way too savvy. Andrew Garfield comes off as drippy rather than the classic geek that Peter Parker is in the comics. Martin Sheen & Sally Field do not portray elderly and vulnerable at all. If this film happens to be showng on TV, its worth a watch. Do not spend your money if you was a fan of the 1st 3 movies. You WILL be disappointed. Saying that, I will be watching the next instalment as I normally love the comic book genre films that are getting serious big screen time at the minute. Fingers crossed for more action, a decent plot, some laughs and LESS SMOOCHING!!!
Filth (2013)
Very Disappointing
I'm actually shocked to be writing such a bad review for this title as I was so looking forward to Filth. If this review was based on performances alone, and not the whole package, I wholeheartedly think the whole cast deserve 10 stars. However the film itself was pathetic. Every part of the plot tries to shock. NEWSFLASH we've seen it all before. Im 26 years old n hardly prude but 90% of the film is sex and drugs for the sake of it. The characters are one dimensional which comes off as pantomime in most cases. The plot is unbelievable to the extreme. The whole film tries to be something it just cant live up to. I was waiting the whole way through for something thought provoking or even one original joke. Quite a lot of the film comes across as a pornographic version of The Hangover. Whoever watches this and thinks they're getting a peek into the real world, or getting to peer at the grimier side of life is like the writer, producer and director of this film ...seriousy out of touch. This will probably appeal to the bored middle classes and school children. Quick tip...save your money and watch Jeremy Kyle
