GoldenEye (1995)
5/10
A Comic Strip Script.
26 January 2021
Having just watched two Connery, two Craig and two Moore versions of the Bond franchise, I'd forgotten just how cheesy and comical Goldeneye is. Too many cheesy gags, too many over the top scenes. The movies is close to being a parody of Bond, unfortunately not the last time this can be said of one of the Brosnan versions - re Die Another Day. Brosnan's a good actor but this movie doesn't exploit his talents. Bye the way, the late Desmond Llewelyn, bless him, as good as ever as Q!

King Kong (1933)
8/10
A masterpiece way before its time.

Time flies watching this classic, just seen the movie in HD remastered and it's as good as any of the modern day classic monster movies. Better than the modern Kong remakes although the recently made 'Kong Skull Island' was surprisingly enjoyable. But this original Kong - wow! The movie has the lot, great actors capturing that classic 1930's acting style, incredibly good special effects for 1933, a griping story line and 90 minutes packed full of entertainment. A must watch.

More a melodrama than a war film.

One hour into this movie and my patients has finally ended. Some war scenes but not many. More like a melodrama with mediocre acting. Give it a miss.

Oh dear!

Just watch the special effects....they were good! Skip the rest. Dubbing of actors voices was dreadful, plot was padded out with cheesy love story that wasn't needed, commercial jet vapour trails in the sky??....errr...wake up director!! Dreadful modern rock music totally wrecked the atmosphere of the movie.

As others have commented...why show the best special effects of the whole movie in the opening scene?? How Daft!

In my opinion this movie was dumbed down for a modern young audience to watch for entertainment, not to educate with historical information. Overall, poor!

Skyfall (2012)

First half good, second half poor.

I thought this Bond movie was going to be one of the best i've ever seen. Craig as ever, fits the role really well. Plenty of action and suspense from the very start with a good plot. BUT....after about an hour things start to go downhill. The end scene was one of the more disappointing that i've seen in a Bond film. M gets far too involved in this movie. Dench acts as Craig's side kick, getting into almost as much of the action as Bond himself does. Way over the top. Lets be realistic....would a high ranking middle class female civil servant based in Westminster really go around shooting guns at arch villains? M needs to get back into his/her office where they belong! Where was the beautiful Bond girl that Bond needed to protect in the final scene? The final scene has plenty of action but the scenario was corny! Worth a watch but you may at the end be a little disappointed!

A Classic Film
6 November 2013
What makes this film so great? The actors! Reno, Portman and Oldman are brilliant grade A actors, and they really hit the jackpot with this film. When I first saw the movie I thought Portman must have been a young looking 14 or 15-year-old playing the part of a 12-year-old. I was wrong, she was a 12-year-old playing the part of a 12-year-old, which made her character even more realistic. Reno (Leon) and Portman (Mathilda) have a powerful dynamic relationship throughout the movie as a hit-man and orphan who are thrown together in an unlikely circumstance. Their characters are so believable and fascinating, by the end of the film it felt as if Leon and Mathilda were members of my own family because Reno's and Portman's performances was so gripping, realistic and heart felt. Portman is a complete natural talent, she doesn't act, she plays it for real! The soundtrack in the film also hits the right notes. Try holding back the tears at the end of the film when Sting sings 'shape of my heart'. This is a movie not to be missed!
