Jibeuro (2002)
A gem!
I totally adore this marvellous film!I saw it on TV accidentally and couldn't help falling in love with it!It remains of my own grandmother so much!I was crying the whole time while the film continued. The wonderful grandma played by Eul-boon Kim touches my very soul although I've heard that she hasn't had any acting experience before! However,I think her performance reflects a real Asian version of great grandmother. They are all stoic and devoted to their family, kids and grandkids. Although the behaviour of the grandson in the film seems unbearable sometimes, but I suppose it happens in real life. Young Kids can very easily ignore the true love they receive. When we grow up, we then realise that we can't take everything for granted. I have to say that this is the best Korean film I've ever seen.I can't even pick up one favourite scene simply because there are too many. This film is a best choice for kids, and as well as for adults!
The Bridges of Madison County (1995)
Different Francesca
I think The Bridges of Madison County is the best romantic film ever made. However,In Waller's book,Francesca is much more vulnerable and much more delicate,Plus she's thoughtful and gentle. But in the film,Meryl Streep's version is so different from the book. Meryl plays a very tough woman and looks like a real farmer's wife,it works beautifully though!I adore both versions of Francesca!By the way,Meryl Streep's Italian accent is absolutely superb!there's no doubt that she's the most talented actress in the showbiz!Clint Eastwood is wonderful too!Anyway, this film is definitely your best choice if you are fond of romantic love story!
Red Corner (1997)
A political propaganda
I've seen this film once and I think it's a really low-quality political propaganda sort of film!Firstly,I wanna say that Richard Gere has always held a huge grudge against China for he strongly supports Dalai Lama! He has spoken of China very meanly in many public occasions! So this film and the casts are very politically biased in the first place!Seconly, although I know that an ideological difference between China and the West has always been there, but shouldn't those film makers or artists have some basic understandings of what China is like or Chinese people are like when making a film about China? They should always keep in mind that their work may have great impact on the audiences! It's not a very nice thing to have such a strongly biased view of the others in our modern world! That's why I give it a very low rate!
