Batman Begins (2005)
BATMAN is back!
Well, not bad. I saw this movie two hours ago. I cant stop thinking about it. Firstly let me just say that this movie has, I think, redeemed BATMAN. BATMAN, very good flick. BATMAN RETURNS, equally good. BATMAN FOREVER, corny title, but in many ways...interesting. Then there was BATMAN AND ROBIN, God help us. Most likely one of the WORST movies ever. Corny, cartoonish, horrible acting. The most talk this movie got was about the nipples they had decided to put on the BATMAN suit. Now there is BATMAN BEGINS. Thank you GOD! I was exstatic to see the BATMAN I know and love, return, or begin, with full force. You know, going to the theater I wasn't too worried about the quality of this movie because I had been reading the reviews and 98% of them said pay full price. It is even getting better ratings then CINDERELA MAN. But I still had some doubts in the back of my mind. They were obliterated. This movie was awesome. It is a dark movie, not filled with too much happiness. The acting is fantastic. I'm so glad they got great actors for this chapter. The special effects are perfect and, just the all around feel of the movie is good.
Now, the bad. This movie doesn't follow the story of the erlier BATMANs perfectly, like a prequel should. For instance, the man who kills Bruce's parents in this movie is not the same as it is in the first BATMAN. As most people know, the person who killed Bruce's parents was found out to be the JOKER. This kinda ruins the flow of the movies because now, the JOKER killing Bruce's parents, makes no sense. Also, we know from BATMAN FOREVER that Bruce fell into the old well were the bats were, after running in the rain from his parents funeral. In BATMAN BEGINS, Bruce falls into the well while hiding from his friend. The BATMAOBILE is also WAY different. But a BATMOBILE can only be a BATMOBILE if it is cool, and this new BATMOBILE is most definitely cool. Some actor changes have been made, no biggy. The great Micheal CAINE takes ALFRED's place(though I do like the old ALFY, CAINE is a good replacement), and GARY OLDMAN claims the part of Chief Commissioner GORDON. But the nipples are GONE! YAY!
I would have liked to see more of the SCARECROW, but I'm 100% sure there is going to be another BATMAN movie. Many doors were left open for a sequel. Perhaps a sequel to BATMAN AND ROBIN, perhaps not. Whatever sequel it is, there will be one. This movie also sets up a little boy who I think will become ROBIN. Who knows what lie ahead for the movies that are BATMAN. But whatever they are, we can be sure, that with more BATMAN movies like this, we will never see another BATMAN AND ROBIN. (9 stars out of ten because of some unanswered questions.)
Bee Gees: One Night Only (1997)
They Stayed Alive
Bravo! To the Bee Gees for this performance. I am 15 years old and LOVE the Brothers Gibb. I sometimes get made fun of at school for liking them, but I don't care. Those other kids don't know what they are missing. Their harmony is spectacular. Barry strains somewhat to hit those old high notes. But who can really blame him. Besides that, he was going through a secret back pain injury that was almost unbearable and nearly left him paralyzed. Anyone who knows singing knows you have to stand up very straight to hit those high notes. Other than that he is flawless. Robin's voice is, as usual, amazing. His voice is creamy smooth in "I Started A Joke". Maurice is robbed of many shots in this concert, which is very sad because it was one of the last ones he did. His vocals are excellent as well. If you listen close, you can hear him sing some pretty high notes. This is a must see, must own, concert of anyone who loves, likes, or has even thought about liking the Bee Gees. It holds many sentimental values because in 2001, youngest brother Maurice, died. The two remaining Bee Gees decided to stop the group. It deserves more then 10 stars. So watch it! Or else!
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
Can't Kill The Mockingbird...
To Kill A Mockingbird(TKAM)is a timeless classic. It is a story about two children's adventures in a small town in Alabama. Like the book TKAM the movie is unforgettable. My mom rented it for me and I loved it. I have since read the book 7 times, and seen the movie at least 10 times, including one time in the theaters(a local theater puts on old movies once a month). I will watch the movie at any chance I can. Anyone who I have talked to, even if they don't like the book, love the movie. Gregory Pecks portrayal of Atticus Finch is awesome. His act won him the #1 hero spot in the A.F.I. "Greatest Heroes of Film" show. This was also Robert Duval's first film! He plays Boo Radley. His performance is good even though he has no speaking parts. Most definitely watch this movie. It is worth your time! ENJOY!
Titanic (1997)
A Movie of Titanic proportions
When I first saw this movie way back in 1997, I was in awe at the ground breaking special effects. This was the most expensive movie done up to its time. I'm not sure if it is anymore(Lord of the Rings)but it definitely stands the test of time. There are scenes in this movie that are timeless and unforgettable. Who can forget Leo's "King of the world!" scene, or Kate Winslets "Never let go.." scene. No one, at least no one who has seen the film. The acting in the film is spectacular and Kate and Leo are the perfect pair. There are certain things in the film that movie buffs like myself might find a little displeasing. The dialog has been dumbed down so that people of this day and age could understand what the characters were saying, secondly the title Titanic may be a little misleading. This movie, though based highly on the ship, can't help but steer away from the point of the movie. No one can disagree that Titanic is in most part a love story and stories about people sailing on the Titanic. But even with these minor follies, it never stopped me from buying the tape and watching it countless times, to buying the DVD and watching it countless times. This movie hit me into a four year obsession with the Titanic. All I read were Titanic books, and watch Titanic movies. I know anything and everything about the Ship and this movie surpasses my expectations. It is a must see. Filled with action, romance, comedy, and awesome special effects; Titanic is a must see.
Shock Treatment (1981)
Didn't even come close to Rocky Horror
Shock Treatment came no where near the greatness of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The movie was in every way pointless to make. This is just another "sequals are rarely as good as the first movie" scenario. In fact, I don't think that this movie can even be called a sequel. There is no mention of RHPS anywhere in it. The only thing that this movie has anything to do with RH is that it has the same writer, director, and a few of the same character names. The songs in this movie are very much inferior to RH. There are only two good songs("Shock Treatment" and "Denton,USA"). The whole concept and feel of the movie are pretty dull and boring. It is even less believable than RH. I bought this movie with high expectations, and I was sorely disappointed. There is a roumur floating around that Richard O'Brien(writer of the two movies) is planning on a new musical called Rocky Horror: A Second Coming, that would completely delete the plot of the existing Shock Treatment, because it would be a direct sequel to the RH play and movie. Does this mean that Shock Treatment did not pass Richard's expectations? Maybe or maybe not. One thing is for sure, waste your time on this movie only if you are a rock-hard RHPS fan.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
See what's on the slab...
Rocky Horror is most definitely my favorite movie/musical. It is such a different kind of movie, you can't help but not like it. The music is original and the plot is out-of-the-ordinary to say the least. You either love this movie or hate it. If this movie isn't good, then why has it lasted in theaters for the past 30 years? So if you haven't seen it, WATCH IT!. I promise, you will like it. The movie takes place in Denton, C.A. where a couple goes through strange events in a castle that is owned by a very peculiar scientist and kept tidy by a weirdo butler and his "sister". The dialogue is corny on purpose but the look and costuming of the movie is greatly entertaining. ENJOY!
