Oppenheimer (2023)
Boring. Too long. Didn't make sense. Overrated and Overhyped.
Awful movie. Overhyped. Overrated. This is not a masterpiece in storytelling or cinematography. You have all been fed a lie. Barbie and Oppenheimer are both a lie, fabricated to get people to go back to the cinema. Oppenheimer is too long, has too many famous people (for extremely minor parts), the inclusion of Florence Pugh's character was completely pointless, the timeline overlaps failed, the black and white v color failed, it never led anywhere, there's no pace, the list just goes on and on...
Nolan is one of the most overrated directors of all time. Of course, not all his movies are bad. But he is grossly overrated. Tenet, Inception, and now Oppenheimer, are three of the most confusing and unenjoyable movies of all time.
Oppenheimer cannot be a masterpiece if it is so polarizing.
People need to speak up and say what they really think of this movie.
It was boring. It was a waste of time and money. They threw celebrities at it hoping something would stick. They threw pointless and gratuitous sex scenes into the mix.
Absolutely woeful.
George Michael: Portrait of an Artist (2023)
Rushed. Poor Quality.
Poor documentary. It's rushed, it contains far too many talking heads giving biased information, and the production quality is poor. I think it's the 3rd chapter of the documentary, watch the titles appear on screen-they fade in and disappear quickly and then reappear quickly. How was this not seen in production?! Barely anything was mentioned about Princess Diana or music George wrote about his mother, no mention of his musical collaboration or friendship with Elton John, and absolutely nothing was mentioned about December Song.
George Michael is a musical legend and his story deserves a more thorough and respectable documentary to capture his talent. This documentary focused more on his downfall, caused by himself, and the ugly realities of his fall from grace. Too much was crammed in, and it felt more like a cheap VH1 or A&E TV documentary rather than something of a higher caliber.
Disappointing.
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
Absolutely Awful Waste of Everyone's Time and Money
Truly awful. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Even my kid who is typically positive about movies said it was bad. The movie is totally pointless. It's basically an hour and a half reunion that you could have made into a 2 minute YouTube clip. No story. No plot. Boring. Lifeless. No magic. Bad acting. It's laughable that bots have currently got this as a 6-star rating. The only good part was the younger versions of the witches, they looked like the main witches visually and there was some excitement with their part of the story at the start of the film, but once that was resolved and we move into modern day, the movie just totally falls apart. Read all the genuine 1 and 2 star reviews for yourself. This wouldn't even make it as a TV movie. Should never have been made. It's a cash cow using the original movie's success. This is a bad, bad movie and it will not age well at all.
13th (2016)
Too Long. Too one-sided. Unconvincing.
Was willing to give this a try, I'm open minded. But the premise that the number of African Americans in prisons is connected to slavery is preposterous. The documentary became a one-sided political agenda. It was too long, too meandering, and failed to support its objective.
Dune (2021)
Dull, Slow, and Incredibly Boring
As dry as the sandy dunes. Slow, boring, and predictable plot. Didn't care for any of the characters. It's Mad Max crossed with Tatooine but without any energy.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Shocking & Unnecessary Bad Language and Sexual Content
I offer no apologies but I know this is an unpopular opinion... But Season 2 of Ted Lasso is full of unnecessary and inappropriate language and vile sexual references. If you thought there was bad language in season one, prepare to be shocked for season 2. The main point I want to make is that this show does not need bad language. People are not watching because of bad language. Using bad language in the way season two uses bad language is just extremely poor writing and a cheap attempt at gags. This show deserves better! The writing and characters of season 1 was excellent and season 2 just feels like it was thrown together by a group of teenagers who think that swearing is cool. Again, I appreciate that this is a mature/MA rated show for adults, but we need to question, does this show need it? Would the show standalone without the swearing? Yes! It's not funny for one of the characters to swear all the time, even in front of kids, this was the humor about 30 years ago in Richard Curtis movies. This show and the characters deserve better. While I greatly enjoyed and appreciated season 1, I am seriously turned off by season 2 and am so put off by the vulgar and unnecessary content that I'm likely not to watch the rest of this season. So disappointed and shame on the producers and writers of this show for stooping to such low levels.
Black Widow (2021)
Totally Pointless Waste of Time
Absolutely awful. So boring. Black Widow hanging from a helicopter looked so hokey. The red mist from the vials was the worst CGI I have seen in the modern era. Totally pointless, not funny, not entertaining, a total train wreck and embarrassment for the Marvel franchise.
Defending Jacob (2020)
Great Show, Super Let Down by the Ending
A great show that could have been even better. The cinematography, pace, writing, and acting were really top notch. Where the show falls flat however is the ending. First of all, the TV show completely changed the ending to the original book! The ending of the book sees the girl die who Jacob meets in Mexico. In the TV show, she goes missing and then comes back. Also in the book, Jacob dies immediately in the car crash but he survives and is in a coma in the TV series. The book ending makes so much more sense! Why did they feel like they had to change it?! Allowing the characters in the TV show (and the viewers) to just end up with a life of not knowing whether Jacob was guilty or not, and no loose ends tied-up just feels like a total waste of time. When the viewer invests time and emotion in great TV, especially good character development portrayed in the show, you don't want to end up with absolutely nothing. I'm not saying everyone has to live happily ever after, absolutely not, just compared with the book, the TV show makes no sense. There's no reason to change the ending!
What could have been a really amazing show was ultimately ruined by the end. Awesome acting, great story, but totally disappointing and annoying the way it ended. Gah, what a waste!

About Time (2013)
Beautiful, Poignant, and Funny, with a Timeless message about Love, Family, and Time
This is an incredible movie for I believe it's a romantic comedy with a deep, poignant message that is purposely intended primarily for men. I've watched this movie two times now and both times it has made me cry. Both times it's made me focus on what's most valuable in life.
The point I feel the writer and director wanted to make here is about our precious relationships, particularly between father and son, and the importance and temporal nature of time. Time, like our lives, is a vapor that will quickly disappear. Enjoy each day like it's our last. Make life enjoyable for others in your life. Great humor. Sublime, subtle acting, particularly from Bill Nighy and Domhnall Gleeson (carefully watch the subtle nuances in their faces throughout every scene). Richard Curtis is one of the finest British writers and directors of the modern era, always managing to capture and fuse love, emotion, and humor.
I am super critical of movies and I'm very hard to please where films are concerned, but this movie is one of the best I have ever seen and moved me in a way I have never been moved before with a movie. Great acting, extremely well written, funny, poignant, and an excellent cast. It's extraordinary the way this movie was written to elicit such emotion from the viewer, especially men. Be prepared to change the way you view your relationship with your father, and the precious, transient nature of time.
Rogue One (2016)
A Different Take on Star Wars that has Good Points and some Bad Points
So many mixed feelings about this movie right now. Firstly, it's different to the other Star Wars movies, but that's good! I liked the way the film was shot, I like that they took a leap of faith away from the traditional Star Wars canon. It was a bit more serious too, like a legitimate sci-fi movie, instead of just being "jokey' or for kids. There's a downside to the seriousness however, and that is, it often felt TOO serious at times.Even with the humor they threw in (which worked, it wasn't too contrived) it just felt like a massive war movie. It just wasn't fun! With all the shade, the producers should have put more "light" in there to help balance the movie. It was just too much of one thing.
The middle of the movie felt like nothing ever happened and it went on far too long. I am embarrassed to say that I was fighting to stay awake it was so boring. I really liked the concept behind the main group of characters, it had a lot of potential. But bringing in so many new characters in a 2.5 hour movie means that there's not a lot of opportunity to learn much about them. Consequently, I felt no empathy for the characters. Not even the lead character. So much so in fact, I felt like a "female lead" was shoe-horned into this movie just to be politically correct with this day and age. This actually lowers the impact of the point of Daisy Ridley's character being female in the main Star Wars canon. Why does Disney/Star Wars insist on reusing the same character story line (girl loses family, seeks revenge...) and plot (blow up the Death Star!) from every Star Wars movie?!
Trying not to give away any spoilers but the CGI used with some well-known characters was the best movie character CGI I've seen in a long time, it's amazing how far we have come and continues to improve. Credit to the director, I think he made Star Wars look beautiful, really nicely shot, but the story line was just too long and there was too much of the same war battles in the middle of the movie that dragged-on forever. I can see why they decided to try and salvage this movie by rewriting and re-shooting.
I had high hopes in the first third of the movie, I thought it worked well. But the final two thirds left me disappointed. Nice try, I think the intent comes from a good place, but it just missed the mark of being something really good. The most disappointing aspects for me is that (and I know this is a precursor to a New Hope) is that we cannot have anymore Death Star story lines. It has been done to death (and then some). How many Star Wars movies now feature the Death Star? It's beyond silly. If you can split this movie into three parts, I would give 10/10 for the first third, 4/10 for the middle third, and 5 or maybe 6/10 for the final third.
I'm usually first in line to buy a DVD/Blu-ray version of Star Wars after a movie release, but this time around, I don't have the excitement to want to get it when it's released.
Let's not be spoiled however - the fact we get spin-offs like this is what we've been asking for, so we should not come away too dejected or ungrateful. The more spin-offs that are made, the better, because some of them will be great, and we should not have the expectation that all of them will be great. Let me be clear - Rogue One stands head and shoulders above the George Lucas prequels in the 2000s and that's because of a huge improvement of the writing. Rogue One is very well written. Dialog is great, never silly or forced. The special effects were really well done but even they went overboard in places. So much so that it verged on resembling a Michael Bay Transformers movie (you know, one of the bad ones!). The balance needs to be right, and Rogue One just kept missing the mark.
Here's to 2018, hoping that next main Star Wars installment in the main canon can bring that perfect balance back to the force.
