Delirium (2015)
Why did I waste my time?
I've given it 2 out of 10, even then I feel I'm being generous.
This movie was on sky store and I didn't feel up for reading reviews so purchased it (unfortunately with the DVD too as it was the only option) both myself and my husband are big horror fans and we do enjoy thrillers too so it doesn't have to be very scary to win us over.
However this movie failed on just about every expectation we had. 1. the movie is all over the place and is very hard to follow. This makes it hard to care about the characters. 2. the acting is really bad, especially by the step dad and mother. 3. the whole film feels forced and unnatural.
The only up sides are that it had a plot twist (which is always a nice surprise) and the sets were well made.
I would strongly suggest spend your time and money on some other better movie as this one was just awful.
Mama (2013)
Surprisingly good and quite scary
I didn't have high hopes for this film, however I was pleasantly surprised . My husband spent the whole movie covering his face.
We meet two little girls who's father obviously has mental health issues, he kills their mother and takes the two girls. However speeding away from the scene of the crime in the snow he crashes and ends up in some woodland.
They stumble across a cabin, however the cabin isn't as empty as they thought. Panic has set in and faced with his crime the father decides to kill himself, however he quickly realizes that his two young daughters will be left alone to care for themselves. He decides to end their lives too, I guess to save them starving or freezing to death alone.
However just before he can kill his oldest daughter a black figure takes him and kills him. This figure is "Mama" and she takes care of the children for the coming years, until they are finally found.
Their uncle and his immature girlfriend take on the girls and Mama makes sure it's no easy task. I won't spoil it too much.
I enjoyed the characters and the feral aspect of the children, walking on all fours made it just that little more creepy.
I've been struggling to find a movie that tickles my fancy but this did a good job. Although the ending left me feeling a little empty, unresolved.
The Conjuring (2013)
One of the only real scary films
Those who are familiar with the Warrens will remember them from the Amityville and the Haunting in Connecticut. I am a big horror fan but rarely ever find them scary, this however left me and my husband jumping and on the edge of our seats.
The film is full of twists and excitement, although my advice would be to not watch this at night unless you want to be awake all night. The sounds of the rope swinging in the tree haunts me, very scary as we decided to watch this at 11pm!
The only let down for me was one of the "story lines" felt unfinished. I'd have liked to see them locate Rory's body and bury him, thus also finding out maybe why he vanished in the woods.
Overall a good watch, good for a scare and it has a good plot. I'd recommend it for anyone who likes ghost stories, I'll be watching it again.
