Bachchhan Paandey (2022)
Horrible movie!
This is by far the worst movie of Kriti Sanon. I can't understand why an actor with films like Bareilly ki Barfi, Mimi & Hum Do Humare Do against her name, will give a not to such a third class script. Very disappointed! Same applies to all other talented casts in the film. It's an absolute waste of time. Don't watch!
Hum Do Hamare Do (2021)
A complete family movie 👌🏼
If you ignore the premise of the film, as to why did Rajkumar get fake parents (which is beyond absurd), it's an excellent movie. Every single actor, has outdone themselves. Watch this with your family. Everyone will love it. 😍
Finally, even after watching this, if you don't agree that Kriti Sanon is the best female actor in Bollywood right now, you've got to be biased😏
Shershaah (2021)
A prefect tribute to Capt. Vikram Batra!
Shershaah is the best movie on Kargil War that Bollywood has ever made. It's factually accurate (for the most of it) and is a perfect tribute to our Braveheart Captain Vikram Batra. It's very engaging and takes you through various emotions throughout the length of it. Time will just pass by as you watch it and at no point do you complain about the length of it. Siddharth Malhotra is brilliant! Kiara Advani is good and so is every member of the supporting cast. Another highlight about the movie is its music. It is original & very good. I loved the song Raataan Lambiyan in particular. So if you do not have much planned this Independence Day weekend, Shershaah is a must watch.
14 Phere (2021)
A decent family film!
I loved the first 45 mins of the film but then the 2nd half is disappointing. The film is lost somewhere between being a romantic comedy and a drama but eventually ends up in a no man's land. Highlights of the movie are definitely the performances of Vikrant Massey & Kriti Karbanda. Music is nothing great but thankfully original. Support cast is good. The script had lot of potential but fails to deliver when it was needed the most. Somewhere the dialogues are just not funny either. Overall, I would say that while the film is not a must watch, it is a decent family entertainer.
Mimi (2021)
A Kriti Sanon show 👌🏼
Without a shred of doubt, this certainly is the best work of Kriti Sanon till date. What expressions! She's funny in the first half and makes you laugh but the real punch is in the second half when even while sitting on the other side of the screen, you are able to feel her pain, her anger, her despire. In certain scenes she'll blow your mind off. The movie just shows, how the Indian film industry has matured and it's time for the ladies to take over the industry. The time for surnames are over. No more Khans & Kapoors. It's time to perform or perish. Pankaj Tripathi is brilliant as well and plays an excellent supporting role. The music in the movie is original & really soothing. That's like a breath of fresh air. If there's one weakness in the film, it's the storyline. While it builds up very well, I think it loses direction in the middle and lacks that knockout punch. Overall, it's a movie that definitely deserves a watch.
Toofaan (2021)
I'm confused!
Here's my confusion...I didn't realize where did the two & a half hours go by, while watching the film and yet I'm not able to rate the movie any higher than a 6/10.
Murnal Thakur is just brilliant! She lights up the screen every time she's there. What a fantastic preformance in a totally non-glamorous role. What's remarkable is that in a simple girl next door character, playing second fiddle to the protagonist, she steals the show.
Farhan Akhtar is great too. I just love his expressions in the scene where he's upset with Ananya about not telling him that Nana Prabhu is her dad. Brilliant!
Lastly, who am I to judge greats like Paresh Rawal. He is a genius and fits comfortably in the role of a coach to Toofaan.
Music might be ordinary but there are not that many songs to slow down the film. Background score keeps you engaged.
Then what is missing? It's a fast moving, intense, sports film with some great performances & good story line. I couldn't figure out what's wrong with the film but something definitely is!
Well, let me know if you have the answer. For that... you've to watch the film. Do watch! 😊
Sherni (2021)
Decent one time watch
The first hour of the movie is slow and not that intense. Somewhere the film refuses to move in the first 60 mins. The background score however gives you a feeling that a lot is happening but unfortunately that's not captured on screen. While the second hour moves faster, it still has no WOW moments. Overall, it's a decent movie. Vidya Balan is good. The support cast is decent as well. Cinematography is not bad either. It's a one time watch. However, even if you are not planning to watch it, you are not missing out on anything extraordinary either.
Sunflower (2021)
Extremely gripping & yet funny
While I believe Family Man & Special Ops were fabulous shows in itself, Sunflower is a different level altogether. You will just not be able to stop watching it. I hope this is a 24 episode web series. Anything less will be very sad. It's super engaging, very intense, funny and its cast have executed a project with the finesse which would put a lot of leading actors to shame. Simple brilliant! Whatever it is, DO NOT miss this one.
Radhe (2021)
Pathetic!
If you are planning to take a Zee5 Premium subscription because of this film, JUST DON'T! It's unwatchable! It's a movie with a below average storyline, horrible dialogues & horrendous acting. It seems like that the last 40 mins is a collage of random scenes hurriedly put together. Salman Khan is pathetic. Disha Patani is the worst. She just has no role of significance in the film and she is a joke when it comes to acting. She just can't act! Jackie Shroff is a pain to watch. The only saving grace is possibly Randeep Hooda. However, he just doesn't do enough. Give Radhe a skip. This movie will be forgotten in 15 days.
Raat Baaki Hai (2021)
Predictable!
A decent weekend watch! However, the film doesn't keep you on the edge of your seat. Most of the casts have done a good job but none gives a memorable performance. Storyline is ordinary (but not bad) and that's the weakness of the movie. Do watch!
Tenet (2020)
Confusing & irritating
The movie is confusing and I could not understand most of it. The concept is so complicated that after the first 45 mins, you start getting irritated. To top that I had to sit thru it for 2.5 hours. The worst movie I've seen in the last one year. And NO, I can't watch it 3-4 times just to understand it's concept.
Silence... Can You Hear It? (2021)
Disappointed!
I watched this film because of Prachi Desai. We've missed her from the screen for over 4 years now and boy, isn't she good! It's only Prachi who can pull off such a non glamorous role with such panache. I hope we see a lot more of her in the years to come. Manoj Bajpai is good too! But Sahil Vaid was my personal favorite. I just loved him in every scene. Unfortunately, that's where the goodness ends. The movie in isolation, is boring and is not engaging enough. There's no uniqueness to the script and lacks that wow moment. It's ok for a weekend watch. Just that, don't have high expectations from it.
Panipat (2019)
A decent watch👍🏻
When it comes to acting, I've not seen a movie this year where the leads have delivered better than this. Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor & Kriti Sanon are spectacular. The direction is great as well. So is the story and it rolls at a decent pace. I also like the way you start connecting with the characters in the film with the passage of time. You literally feel their anger & pain. Problem is, the music is poor and the songs make the movie feel very long. They are absolutely unnecessary and disrupts the flow & pace of the film. There's no comic element in the film as well. None! I found that a little disappointing. However, overall it's definitely a movie you should watch at the theaters this weekend.
Ujda Chaman (2019)
Just not funny 😞
"Dilon ki baat karta hai zamana, Par mohabbat aaj bhi chehere pe tikka hai". This is essentially the message the film is trying to convey. How, even in this day & age our society gives importance to the physical appearance of a person. However, the movie fails to make an impact because of the poor presentation of these subject. You go to the movie expecting a comedy and while there are a few moments where you are left smiling, the movie is far from being hilarious. Saurabh Shukla's cameo is the best thing about the film and the songs are not too bad. Problem is, because of the lackluster performance of the leads Sunny Singh & Maanvi Gagroo the film feels a little boring. Direction is also pretty ordinary and nothing Abhishek Pathak would be proud of. Dialogues are the biggest let down. Overall, feel free to give this movie a miss. Thers not too much in it 😞
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Ain't that bad at all 👍
If you make up your mind, go to the theaters & do not compare this movie to Terminator 1 or 2, you are in for a treat. The action sequences are amazing. Add the VFX & SFX to it and your screen lights up. At no point does the movie feel long. It's fast paced and very engaging. All the actors have done reasonably well and does nothing that is an eye soar. Ofcourse where the movie fails, is to create that emotional connect which John Connor creates with the Terminator in Judgement Day. This movie also makes the story line of Terminator 3 impossible but then why think so much. Want to go to the theater just to watch an out and out action film? Go watch Terminator - Dark Fate. I bet you won't regret it.
Housefull 4 (2019)
Might not run Housefull 4 long 😊
First there are funny films that leave an impression for a lifetime (e.g. Golmaal of Amol Palekar, Chupke Chupke of Amitabh & Dharmendra, Hera Pheri, Munnabhai MBBS) and then there are those casual weekend watches which makes you laugh your heart out at certain moments during the film but nothing you'll recommend to someone the next day. Housefull 4 qualifies for the latter. One great thing about the movie is that it's NOT a vulgar comedy filled with hindi slangs (which many other directors bank on today to make people laugh). It's old school, clean and meant for a family watch & I really loved it from that stand point. Akshay Kumar is brilliant. Kriti Sanon is good too. Certain one liners are outright hilarious and will make you laugh. Problem is that the support casts (including stalwarts like Johnny Lever) are absolutely horrible. Chunky Pandey & Bobby Deol should stop acting. They are an eye soar. Johnny Lever's acting as a transgender is difficult to watch and in just how many movies more are they going to make Riteish Deshmukh behave in a feminine way. There's no originality left in that any longer. The music is terrible & the story is rubbish. However, the best part of the movie are the last 20 mins. So there's a bit to look forward to. Therefore, if you're not doing much this weekend, you might like to buy the tickets for this one or not. I'll leave that choice to you 😊
War (2019)
Hrithik fans should not miss out on this one
Here's what I like about the movie -> Great action sequences and I'm talking 'Mission Impossible' standards (no pun intended). Hrithik looks out of the world. The way he looks in this movie, I don't think anyone can look better than this ever. He's brilliant with his acting too. The VFX & SFX is incredible. The dance off between Hrithik & Tiger is another thing to watch out for. What I'm going to type next won't be liked my many but I think while Hrithik is a brilliant dancer and his style can't be matched by any, Tiger Shroff is definitely faster than him & for the first time ever, I found Hrithik challenged on screen on a dance number. Vani Kapoor in her cameo is brilliant and brings life to the movie. Her role, however short, is meaningful.
Where the film loses out is the story line & dialogues. The story line is like the most obvious ever and the dialogues lack any kind of punch. To top that, there's no comic element in the film at all. These things put together make the film feel very very long and boring.
However, I strongly recommend that you should watch this one at the theatres & not at home. So go, grab a ticket!
Romeo Akbar Walter (2019)
A simple yet intense spy movie!
Romeo Akbar Walter is a good spy movie with no unnecessary over the top moments. John Abraham is fantastic. He delivers at a different level in such movies. Mouni Roy looks amazing and I can't think of anyone who could have given a better performance. The movie moves at a varied pace but overall keeps you hooked on it. Songs are original (which is rare to find these days). Support casts are fabulous. Good for a weekend family watch 👍
Shazam! (2019)
A prefect Superhero movie! Classic 👌
An amazing film filled with super funny dialogues and hilarious scenes all through, while keeping the superhero theme alive. A complete family entertainer. DO NOT give this a miss.
Kesari (2019)
Just about OK 🙄
Kesari is an average film made on a great real life story. The problem is that the movie is too long, the direction is ordinary & the dramatization at times is over the top. However, Akshay Kumar is good and makes the movie worth watching.
Thackeray (2019)
Nawazuddin Siddiqui makes it worth watching
Nawazuddin Siddiqui pulls of one of the best performances of his career. He's fabulous! His body language, composure, magnetism & mannerism is at a different level all together. We don't come across actors like him often. If nothing else, watch the movie just for him.
Overall, depending on your political inclination, the values you carry, the principles you have, you may hate or like the film, as it is based on a political personality and the choices he makes. Personally, I must admit that the 150 mins did alter my opinion about Balasaheb Thackerey. That by itself shows that the film & the performance of its casts is good enough to have an impact (good or bad) on your opinion about the protagonist.
However, the film is very slow & if you can't read Hindi you might find it difficult to keep up. Dialogues at times are great but most often very confusing.
Bottom line is, if you are looking for a typical bollywood entertainer, you might like to skip this one. Else it is a good watch!
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019)
A decently well made film
First things first... you can avoid the first 30 mins of the film. It's a combination of poor acting, a dull build up and unnecessary training sequences where Kangana Ranaut looks stiff & artificial. However, the film quickly matures post that and while you might not be happy by the interval, you do overcome the trauma of the first half an hour.
It is the second half of the film which is refreshing. It's fast & the dramatization is not over the top. The music for a change is original (not remakes like in most films these days) and might get your feet tapping. Dialogues are ordinary and there is hardly a comic moment in the film. However, unlike in the first half, you don't keep looking at your watch in the second. While it's not quite intense, yet the second half in isolation, manages to keep you engaged. The acting from the supporting casts is not great but Danny Denzongpa is good.
From the stand point of a directorial debut, Kangana Ranaut does ok but it's her acting that leaves me in a dilemma. While her dialogues delivery is bad and is one of the low points of the film, her expression in certain scenes are out of the world. I don't think anyone could have done a better job of it.
Overall, Manikarnika won't be the most memorable movie of 2019 but it might be a decent family watch for the weekend.
Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)
Great subject dealt very poorly 😔
My first movie in 2019 and what could have been better than watching a movie on the surgical strike that India executed on our spineless neighbour, Pakistan. The subject is something which is close to the heart of every Indian and from that stand point it is a must watch.
However, if you look at the movie in isolation, well...I must say I was disappointed. But let me point out the positives first...
1. The background score is good
2. The music is decent
3. There were atleast 4 occasions in the movie when the audience started applauding and you could feel how close the subject is to the heart of us Indians.
4. Vicky Kaushal is good
5. Make up of a few actors to make them look like Narendra Modi, Manohar Parrikar, Rajnath Singh & Arun Jaitley is outstanding.
Negatives:
1. The manner in which we've dealt with the subject looks very superficial. I don't think any real research went into making of the film. From whatever I've read on the surgical strikes, many details provided in the movie are factually inaccurate.
2. Dramatization in the movie is unnecessary & predictable. I personally felt a little irritated towards the end.
3. Yami Gautam's acting in the interrogation scene is outright poor (to say the least). I can think of many other actors who could have done a far better job.
4. Kirti Kulhari looks lost in the movie and her role is absolutely irrelevant & unnecessary.
5. Paresh Rawal is a let down as well.
6. The person incharge of the operations giving vital Intel to the commander in Kashmir from an Auto Rickshaw in Delhi with the driver listening to him is hilarious & the low point in the movie.
7. Dialogues are bland & doesn't evoke any emotions.
Overall, if you don't look into the technicalities, you should go and watch it. Our emotional connect to the subject might make you like the film.
Bumblebee (2018)
Disappointing!
There's nothing new in the story line. I have a feeling that the transformers franchise is on a downwards spiral. While the acting is fair and unlike many of its predecessors the length of the movie is comparatively shorter, the movie fails to make a lasting connection with the audience. The humour in the film is ordinary & the VFX/SFX is nothing we've not seen before. Overall, while the movie isn't boring, it's not a complete entertainer either. You might want to give this a miss 🙄
Simmba (2018)
An entertainer with a strong social message
In a year which has delivered good movies like Stree, Andhadhun & Badhai Ho and marred by substandard films like Zero, TOH & Race 3, I must admit that I went to see Simmba with mixed expectations. From that stand point, Simmba has outdone itself and turns out to be a decently good film with a strong social message 👍. Though the script offers nothing new, the dialogues are funny in the first half & pretty intense in the second. The comic element in the movie helps you keep a smile on your face all through to the interval. The second half makes you go through a range of emotions from anger to feeling satisfied with how the script unfolds. Ranveer Singh delivers a good performance but Sonu Sood steals the show with an amazing performance in a negative role. I won't be surprised if the latter bags an award or two for his performance. Sara Ali Khan's role is inconsequential and adds nothing but glamour to the film. Her role is too short for anyone to figure if she's any good. As a result, I'm left wondering that for a movie which intends to stand up for women, why would you use the female lead in the same film for glamour & serve as the love interest of the protagonist and nothing else. Disappointing! The direction is good & so are the support casts (especially Ashutosh Rana & Siddhartha Jadhav). Music is a let down. I mean, come on guys...I miss the good old days when we used to hear original scores. All we hear nowadays are remakes of old songs! What a shame! Overall, Simmba is an entertainer and a good family watch this year end 😊. So go ahead and grab a ticket!
