Nothing less than brava and bravo!
27 October 2023
The four lead characters are truly perfect. I think JM must be the most underrated highly capable actor out there. I have watched all genres that he has played in and always a real personal touch to each character. He is a beautiful and talented actor. Now Lucy Liu my gosh she has my vote for the most beautiful woman hands down. And when she smiles- she is eye bulging gorgeous. So very talented in this show too. All these actors had great range and skills. The cops- are so well portrayed and add immensely to the feel of NYC. Im so happy that I revisited this show. It is obviously made to satisfy a range of viewers that are adult. Great production!

Charm is alive
18 August 2023
Why do young people become addicted to classic movies and is almost extinct these days? Charm and wit. So many fabulous movies that had quick dialogue that was full of wit and charm. You know them: His Girl Friday, Midnight 1939, It Happened One Night, My Man Godfrey, The More the Merrier, and so many more!

Thank goodness this show has great writers and also allows the chemistry to flow in this show and revive charm and quick wit. Just finished season 3 episode 3, and a bit nervous that something will change to squash the fun as it happens with so many great shows that then turn flat for some mysterious reason. Do the producers feel- no people are enjoying this show too much, we wanted it to have an edge and stand for something else! Then they bring in stuck up females etc and the fun humor is gone. The humor was not demeaning women. It was that yes, the mean happened to be funnier than the actress. The classics maybe based the timing on dance. And, with any good dance it takes a strong lead, plenty of energy, charisma and a good beat.

Ioan is a favorite
29 June 2023
Ioan was always a favorite. Being older and never enjoying sarcasm by the young and rebellious. I find I will enjoy Ioan in this show but cringe with some of the other characters. In the past, we were told that sarcasm shows weakness. So, don't understand the current love for it. Wit, comedy, charm, and chivalry are what Ioan has embodied.

I loved Forever, and his movies.

Bring charm back! Some of the new shows and movies are tedious for the over 60 crowd. Which makes it mostly a miss finding anything enjoyable to watch. This rating and review my be edited...

But, even when unpleasant- can Ioan be that?! He is still charming. Keep Ioan as the first billing and center stage!

My favorite Sense and Sensibility
23 February 2023
This production is a creative gem in all accounts.

There is the highest form of authenticity in this series. As much as I love the actors in the earlier movie with Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman who are truly my favorite actors... but this mini-series is so well done and acted. All the actors in this mini series perform expert deliveries and the whole package of photography and filming are so well done. I would love to see all these actors in other roles and it's wonderful to discover new talented actors. I enjoyed the cottage at the sea, and the mother Ms Dashwood is extremely beautiful. It was refreshing for the mother to be so well put together and I could only wish that Jane Austen could ever include some romance for the older women and not just the young. Elizabeth Gaskell has finally written that even those older than 40 have potential for new love!

Star Trek: Enterprise (2001–2005)

A Star Trek with more wholesome themes.
19 January 2023
This Star Trek doesn't hurt the eyes with all the grotesque aliens as much as the other Star Trek shows. Maybe the guys want ugly monsters, but they exhaust me. As we know sometimes an ugly evil no-good being can be physically attractive- so why make them so awful in ugly and hard to look at or listen to? The newer Discovery I just fast forwarded through all the Klingon monsters their speech and appearance was exhaustingly over-kill. Scott Bakula and the crowd here so far in the first season May have a less action and battle style of theme- but t I appreciate the tone. And, I prefer to enjoy the Main characters instead of being irritated. A great change for Star Trek.

The light banter is irritating.
3 January 2023
Don't have any empathy for Dr McKay and he has a prominent dialogue role. That means blah, blah. Is he the doctor of whining? When there is an actual moment of real drama the show is okay. I wasn't expecting a soap opera or pseudo-comedy. I will continue to watch past 1-8... and see if the stories improve. The title seems a bit misleading as they don't focus much on the special aspects of Atlantis- but mostly on the constant boring antagonist the Raif. Sorry, let it be a comedy or a drama. This doesn't work for me so far. Apparently some shows have to have characters that we dread to see- but some are good actors. So it's a shame.

Solid acting
25 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So many things are fine about the series. The main issue for me is the repetitive drama. The actors are fantastic for the most part. The biggest issue is that the theme ending up being depressing. The show is better maybe than it appears in the sense that the viewer may get to know themselves. Often I felt that the dangerous people made it not worth staying in the town- even with all the beautiful nature. So the story line is focused on determination and strength. The lead actors were great, some of the minor ones were effectively irritating. I think the show is better with small doses at a time.

Dumb moves
11 July 2022
If really ignorant moves really, really ignorant moves make you feel like you're smarter than they are rather just angry watch it-the storyline had to have such a stupid plot- watch this show.

The older actors hold their own- maybe the younger ones are okay if anyone can see past the absolutely stupid actions this story has them portraying.

Nope, can't watch someone that's not an addict, drunk, or super messed up- be this stupid.

1.5 episodes is all I can stomach.

It's a shame, I'm sure there are decent and great actors in this stupid plot.

A rare jewel after the gourmet Michelin meal is digested.
12 June 2022
I really liked this tv series as it has fantastic writers. It was a nice change to see a lighter version of a mystery crime genre show. The humor is a fine touch and really works well.

I also enjoyed the family exchange for Meghan Hunt. Dr Hunt is a work in process and this show was great for all the three seasons. The writers did their job expertly. As I felt empathy for most of the actors and enjoyed watching the story line develop. The cast was chosen spot on.

I would love to find low keyed mysteries... not necessarily crime related but a different type of mystery.

The actors did a fine job, with a fine production. If only we had anything close to this depth and quality in the year 2023!

A fun show

It makes me want to learn Shakespeare and other books- or read them again. I'd say that is a great outcome for a show these days. Jane of course is wonderful. The supporting cast are fine too. I'd like to see more series- I hope they continue for a while.

A must see
21 March 2022
A well made production for Agatha Christie's stories. Love David Suchet. Enjoyed seeing the episode of his time as a police officer. Yes, once he is in normal sturdy walking shoes he walks powerfully and manly. An extremely worthwhile actor to follow- his many awards prove that too.

I have enjoyed all Christie's characters, and learning their nuances. After watching the Marple stories and the struggle at times for a woman and elderly to be respected, it was good to see her character of Hercule not need to struggle with that too. These productions of Agatha's stories do us good. We can learn to be quiet more often and observe- and by that learn much.

Marple: Miss Marple: Nemesis (2007)
Season 3, Episode 4

The actors are fantastic.
5 March 2022
Can never give a poor review where Richard E Grant acts. Agatha Christie only said one should play Miss Marple- Joan Hickson... and she is great in the part... but shouldn't other actresses be given a chance too? I feel it's unfair to not allow the space for these actresses in this series.

The Brits I do feel do the best holding on to authenticity period. But, even the Brits can make something terrible when they don't stay true to making a great production. I do hope they can maintain their quality work through time.

A great mini series
17 February 2022
Easiest way to compliment this series production is that my critic husband enjoys watching it every year! Well made all around- great acting for all.

The pace, content, and direction are superb.

Here the director brought out the best in the actors and story line.

The main two characters are so perfect for the parts it's hard to imagine these characters played by other actors.

A wonderful Production of Persuasion
17 February 2022
I watched this movie first and then the 1995 immediately after. I wanted to see the different feelings and I do say both have a authenticity of Austin's story. This version has more a depth of feeling- while 1995 version shows the culture of the time and an uplifted happiness. All actors did a fine job. I appreciate the directing and photography styles of both movies. Persuasion is a fine story and the book is an easy read- unlike Emma. Congratulations to all in these movies.

Are deaf grown women stupid?
16 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry, Henshall was great in Shetland. But, the premise of this young deaf woman not breaking down when she saw a blatant murder is ridiculous. Only a hardened person that had seen much violence would just be quiet and act the way the way this woman did. And, just because she's deaf doesn't mean she can't write it down. I guess that's too much creative thinking. Also, I'm sad as I really like Douglas Henshall. Make better story lines next time instead of making a deaf woman act like a drug addict that has no common sense. Maybe this show is an exercise on all the things not to do when violence happens. I had to skip to the last episode and it still is not interesting. I'm on the side of catching criminals- this show shows all the negatives working against even when there is an eye witness to the act.

Add the tone and productions of all these Miss Marple episodes and they are most special.

Forget the wide-screen as these aren't and get ready for splendid Dramatizations of Agatha Christie's stories.

Intense and excellent

A man in crisis is not an insane man. I think the directing of the subjectivity and memories was well done. It has to be a demanding role to work this character. I don't like some of the other detectives, etc but I also grew to care for others. I see that as a well made production. I can add another actor to watch out for their other roles.

The Time in Between (2013–2014)

Powerfully performed
2 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Must say after purchasing and watching the series- which comes only in Spanish- I have a renewed appreciation for the supporting actors: Carlos Santos, and ALL the actors add their strong acting skills and at times their charisma to make this series special. I also have the English and Spanish books. The book is fantastic! So, it is that much more a challenge when the book is so well written- to hold up to deserve the book's retelling via video. Just appreciate that they are slightly different and both can stand strongly on their own.

If someone feels the mini series is too slow- read the book. It's fantastic and in some ways I prefer it. The comments about the main character should be understood that she is a character that goes through an extreme process of change and growth to independence. She is young in this story, so growing up and out of being naive, duped by people and makes plenty of errors. The book's tone emphasizes the loneliness felt in Madrid and that she is making the effort to have a meaningful life with the relationships that she chooses. If only the mini-series was an hour or maybe two shorter- many would feel it was well made. No fault on any of the actors!

A favorite mini-series of mine
22 December 2021
Yes, David Tennant is one of my favorite actors- and he's wonderfully cast here. But the movie has strong direction so the supporting characters also gain true sympathy and increase the emotional depth. Especially Marcin and Miroslaw are strong supporting actors. I love finding new actors from other countries. Thank you for making a film that shows the efforts that so many determined people made during WW2 by working together. I don't want to share spoilers as that would reduce the impact.

Wonderful acting by three talented actors. And, the direction and execution of this movie was made memorable.

I don't want to share any spoilers to this film. As not knowing what it's about is helpful to maintain its effect.

Thank you for making this film.

I like the story and actors- but...
18 December 2021
The distractions of cultural conformity was a bummer- for a show that older not younger people might like. If the show continues, I hope there are better writers that can focus on a tight plot. It's not the fault of the actors that a few bits can be such a disappointment.

I hope anyone that feels down will watch this movie. For me, it expresses tangibly the folly of the human condition without ... Thought provoking in a positive way. I now want to see more films made by these people behind this movie.

Great actors
18 June 2021
I've read the book a few times and really enjoyed it. The actors are all fantastic and love finding new favorite actors. Some of the smaller parts were very well done such as Actor for Beatrice, Felix and others!

I understand why the movie strays from the books storyline, but I prefer the books story as it has a solid tone. The actors though along with the time period portrayed and scenery are definitely worth seeing.

It is intense and well-made.
31 May 2021
Revising my previous review. Meghan Boone is not at fault- for some reason the makers of this show devised this character change for her. Most of the characters go through a transformation... The show could have been more thought out- to bring out her talents instead of making her look they way they did in the early seasons.

As I have reduced my time watching violent tv shows- I jumped to the last show. I love what Ryan Eggold is doing now in New Amsterdam.

Would love to see James Spader in a different role- as he's a fine actor. The other actors all over time showed they also had talent-- the show just has to allow it.

Why?
25 April 2021
Why would this show create a Lizzy character- to please the teen girls? Ryan Eggold and James Spader are the stars with fine acting ability. But, did the producer and director want Lizzy to be the weird hairstyle and self absorbed novice?
