Loki (2021)
Season 2 - Disappointed
Whilst Season 1 was nothing like what I would have expected for a TV series featuring everyone's favourite Loki, it was still enjoyable and left me excited each week for the next episode.
Season 2 is the exact opposite. Four episodes in and I have not been this disappointed in ages. The most recent episode left me questioning why I was watching the show. I've barely laughed, except maybe once per episode. The dialogue is poor and when you have such talented actors - Tom Hiddleston in particular - it is a waste of their skill set. The next two episodes will have to be much better in my opinion to redeem this season.
I will keep watching, but without enthusiasm.
Little Women (2019)
Disappointed
I watched this movie last night (had hoped to see it whilst still in cinemas but the timing didn't work out, so purchased the DVD). I'm a huge fan of the 1994 version and was initially sceptical about this remake, but after hearing good reviews, I held out hope that it would be good. It wasn't.
Positives:
Majority of costumes were lovely.
I liked the scene where Jo starts writing "Little Women". I thought it was well done.
Emma Watson was in it.
Negatives:
The heart, soul and warmth of the 1994 version was lacking. This movie played like a bunch of well known and talented actors pretending to be characters, which yes I get that technically that's what actors do all the time, but they weren't believable. They didn't embody their characters.
There was nothing in this movie that made me feel like I want to see it again. I will be giving away my copy of the DVD.
Very disappointed.
Mirai no Mirai (2018)
A Delight
I saw this movie last night and having never seen any anime films before I was a little skeptical, but in the end was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
The opening of this film was beautiful and a treat for the eyes. The birds eye view of the city we receive was so realistic that on first thought, I was sure that it was real and not animated. Other highlights for me were a sequence with trains running along the train line that I thought was done well and I liked the use of colours that helped define different times of the day.
The characters in this film are very well crafted. I cannot begin to say which is my favourite as each was so good. Kun definitely stands out as being I think the main character, although this film is named after his sister, the story did revolve more around Kun and how he felt about his new baby sister and his feelings towards his parents after her birth. I believe the director has well captured the typical behaviour and emotions of children and adults throughout this film.
I laughed a lot during the movie. The comedy in "Mirai" was well written and played out often quite naturally but also with bit of the melodramatic.
I would recommend this movie for anyone who is an anime fan, who likes to laugh and who enjoys a heartwarming, thought-provoking movie
My compliments to all who worked on the making of "Mirai". It is a job well done. I give it 4 and a half stars (or 9/10).
Black Panther (2018)
A Decent Marvel Outing
I saw this film last night. I found the first half hour pretty slow, but it eventually got going and I found myself enjoying it slightly more than I had anticipated.
1. Special Effects: Good, with a few very good parts, especially in a couple of the vision scenes.
2. Acting: All characters were well cast, keeping with Marvel's record (in my opinion). Very impressed with Chadwick Boseman's portrayal of T'Challa. He is believable as a king new to the throne and a man with a good heart who wants to be a good ruler. There was good interaction between him and his cousin, too.
3. Story: Average, as stated above, it took a while before I really got into it, probably the longest out of any of the MCU movies.
4. Humour: Classic Marvel
I rate this film 7/10. It is good fun. I will probably watch again in the future, but I'm in no rush.
