A Naija Christmas (2021)
Not the usual Christmas movie
So many Christmas romantic comedies are told more from the woman's perspective but this one is told from the male perspective. I've never watched a movie set in Nigeria before, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was also different in that there were three stories told (though more focus was on two of them), one for each of the three brothers. I don't know anything about Nigerian culture, so I don't know how accurate the portrayal was, but the familial tension and church politics seemed familiar, something I think one would see in all cultures.
I would like to see more Nigerian content, based on what I saw in this movie.
Miranda (2009)
Had me laughing hysterically!
I found this show because of Tom Ellis but I loved it because of Miranda Hart. Every episode had me laughing out loud! The little looks she gives the audience are hysterical. I binged it in a couple of days and so glad I didn't have to wait the years it took when it first aired. Her best friend and mom, especially the mom, were perfect foils for Miranda. This show was truly a delight to watch, I haven't laughed this hard at a tv show in a very long time.
The Libertine (2004)
Love Johnny, Hate this movie
I think Johnny Depp is a wonderfully diverse actor. I love the fact that he can be in films like Edward Scissorhands or Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and then turn around and do films like From Hell or The Libertine. I think he is a talented actor along with being a very beautiful man. He is my absolute favorite actor, but even he could not make me like this movie.
I think they did a wonderful job on the historical accuracy in this film. They showed how dirty and unsanitary the times really were. I appreciate the directing, the acting, the culture of this movie. But it was very boring! It did not capture my attention at all. My husband, who loves movies and has NEVER fallen asleep in a theatre before, fell asleep halfway through. If I'd thought about it then, I would have woken him up to leave. I felt like I was promised scandalous actions by a wicked man - and was cheated by a boring nothingness. I didn't care about the characters, I didn't care what happened to them. They were just so two-dimensional and I didn't know what John Wilmot's motivation was - why was he like this and why should I care?
In conclusion, if you want to see a film with great historical accuracy and excellent acting and don't care about plot - see this movie.
However, I still love me some Johnny Depp and am up for any of his next movies.
