BBC Play of the Month: Chester Mystery Cycle (1976)
Just to set people straight
I was checking up on information on this edition of the Mystery Plays and came across the comment on file at the IMDb. I assume whoever submitted it was have a joke. The synopsis is utter garbage from start to finish.
The Chester Mystery Plays are are one of the few remaining examples of something that happened all over Europe in the middle ages. These are plays that told the stories of the bible in a way that the people could understand (remember the bible was only available in Latin) The Chester plays were written down - unlike many others. This performance is pretty good on the small screen (I saw it live and it was magnificent) A combination of folk theatre and inventive staging make this very memorable. I think of Brian Glover as God to this day.
