Why all the haters!
21 November 2023
Perfectly capable Sci-FI movie with good supporting actors and an interesting tale to tell about an AI vs Humanity future. I really cannot fathom the negative reviews, I think those types of reviewers rate Hollywood blockbuster type movies better. Trust me this movie has lot's to offer plus it's totally family friendly to watch. I'd say eight or up could enjoy this with thier parents.

It's has action, good dialogue (mostly) throughout and the effects are extremly well done, particularly the simulants who are very well imagined. Ignore the haters, take a seat, open some popcorn and enjoy yourself!

Decent action flick which does well on an obvious budget!
19 August 2022
I agree many reviews look like spam bots praising the film too highly or just about right IMO. I suspect the several highly negative reviews are from people who are unable to judge B flicks too well as they expect the very best and get disappointed when they don't get it.

The lead action actor reminds me of a serious Ryan Reynolds type, there is a Frenchman who is tracking him whose fun. Simple Plot, Simple Action, Simple Fun.... Oscars material no, but if you like B action flicks and or Vinnie Jones this ones just fine!

Nice production and tone, enjoyable to watch!

Ignore the negative hit pieces reviews that are clearly political coloured.

IMHO and simply taking this as a straightforward movie without any political consideration, it does it's job really well. None of the emotionally fraught moments of the journey are over dramatized. Nothing is swelled on so there is a constant sense of progression yet nothing is rushed. Attention to detail is good and the acting and cinematography are both strong.

If you like war films and particularly ones with a Sniper focus or element, and you do not have strong political views over Ukraine vs Russia I think you will thoroughly enjoy this film.

Makes you think.
21 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The shady government motif is a bit vague and the whole things is a clear foil for the real intention; which is to depict an obvious allegory of how the people on the top in life often on those at the bottom (with no regard for the consequences to those below).

The movie does a great job of exploring many intellectual and philosophical dilemma's despite the overall premise being a deceptively simple scenario. Simple yet compelling complexities to the scenario are introduced and teased out in a satisfying enough way.

I am a hard core sci-fi fan and as such I do like grand reveals and some closure a the end of the movie. This film provides neither but somehow that's OK and I realised to my surprise that despite the lack of these elements I had enjoyed it very much. If you don't like slow burn's or intellectual explorations of existential dilemma's blah blah blah then you should probably skip it.

But if you like content that makes you think and a film you can sink into I believe you will enjoy this. It's well made and while there is not infrequent gore, it is not incessant either and always germane to the development or direction of the plot.

Quirky and fun!!!
27 February 2020
It's an offbeat quirky semi black comedy that I enjoyed. Sure it won't be for everyone, hardly any movie is. If you like antipodean oddball humour and your OK watcher lower budget films this is certainly worth your time. Blockbuster lovers beware... probably not your fair.

Anyhow, I enjoyed it and I think there are signs of good things to come in the future from this emerging director/producer.

Ignore the Naysayers
19 February 2020
The two reviews slating this production are way of the mark. If your the type of viewer who likes Map and Lucia, Midsomer Murders or Miss Marple you will find plenty to enjoy here.

One of the doom laden reviewers gets one thing correct, this is a play not a film. Watched with that in mind the performances and delivery make perfect sense. Sure it's gentle and more than a little cheesy but it's done fondly. Like an ode de homage to the classic mystery farces of yesteryear. Capable performances from all but the standout turn here is Sandra Dickinson. Delivering some of the best laugh out loud lines in the film with top acting chops.

Alien Outbreak

Why all the negative reviews and low stars...? Because this film isn't shiny or high gloss? Because some of the acting is barely passable and the dialogue stilted and 'mundane even' at times?

Well... probably yes... but for all these faults (and a worryingly low quality introduction scene), the film surprisingly does pick up pace and you kinda want to work out whats going on from the get go. They give you tantalisingly little to go on and indeed it is the overall premise that pays off in the end, which is all to the good.

Look, I enjoyed this movie, and I don't care what the reviewers who cannot stomach the British Indie film style or known Hollywood effects say. It held my attention, kept me watching to see what happened in the end, and the ending was satisfying and explained the entire film. Not sure why those coring this low didn't get it, but personally I think this is worth your time.

Lacked the truly sinister factor but watchable.

#louisianalawncare is wrong. Cage's character is a marine.

"The United States Marine Corps (USMC), also referred to as the United States Marines, is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for conducting expeditionary and amphibious operations with the United States Navy as well as the Army and Air Force."

So they are Army and and they just work alongside the Navy during amphibious operations.

If you don't mind your Sci-Fi on a budget.
6 December 2019
The only review you need to read is the 8/10 by Insprivet, I second everything he said above my own review.

Automation was certainly budget but low experience actors aside it was also thoughtful and well paced. The film rounded out nicely at the end and was thematically consistent and well balanced. I had a couple of niggles with the Sci-Fi technical aspects but I was happy to put those aside because even if the script wasn't 1st class, thematically it was intelligent and gave rounded perspective of the complex subject of sentient AI and how such a scenario may play out.

Above all and most importantly I did not feel robbed of time and I did feel moved to comment here. Take that for what it is, watch it yourself and make your own mind up.

Fred (2018)

Plenty of interest here especially for those new to his story.
14 November 2019
All, yes he evades a lot of direct answers but heck, those interview segments are only a small part of the film. Plus in many cases he simply vacillates before giving a form of answer that while legally non-committal, it's still obvious what he is indicating. When he does this it's about as subtle as a house brick through you window so you won't miss it (unless your a little intellectually stunted). To expect anything other than that also indicates a lack of understanding that answering some of these questions directly would put Fred in Jail.... so no he is not going to answer, he was never going to answer and he won't be answering in the future. The documentary makers highlight this when they include information on the repeal of the Double Jeopardy legislation in 2005. So for those that do not understand this, anything he said before 2005 admitting involvement in crimes he was already prosecuted for is inadmissible in a re-trial because he said them before 2005 when the law of double jeopardy protected him. Now it's possible to be re-tried for specific high profile crimes you were already acquitted of he is being a lot more careful what he says. Because after 2005 anything he says about these crimes can be used against him in a court of law again. So he doesn't want to directly answer certain questions and who can blame him. If you understand this properly before watching the documentary then his evasiveness on certain topics is not irritating, if's fascinating, as you can stitch together for yourself from the things he finds it uncomfortable to speak about exactly what he was and wasn't involved in.

Beyond that this documentary has much else to offer providing a strong historically telling of Fred's upbringing, the environment that formed the teenage boy and young man. Additional commentary from Biographers, Crime Writers and close personal friends are all interesting and well edited.

I'm not sure why anyone would mark this down as amateur other than it does not provide the salacious details or new information about old crimes some viewers crave for. However as a complete documentary piece about an old London hard man who ended up involved with some of the most notorious gangsters and crimes of the last 70 years it's pretty darn interesting and totally watchable.

Why all the hate on Nick Cage
10 November 2019
This movie is a fun romp, sure it harks back to late 80 and 90's action drama thrillers. That said everyone can act, there are a few surprises during an action packed thrill ride and the ending ties lots of things up nicely. Some good dialog from cage and other leads helps. The white and black hats never behave cartoonishly, and most of the script is within acceptable bounds of plausible belief. I enjoyed it and I think most others would not feel robbed of time if they watched it. Some of the strategically critical information transmitted over open mic in the script was annoying but not impossible to overlook given the rest of the film was basically very enjoyable. There other reviews where people knock Nicholas Cage's acting in this, but honestly there just on the hater bandwagon. They have clearly dismissed the film based on the fact he's in it rather than taking it on it's own merits. After all it's not just Nicholas Cage in the film, the black hat is excellent at playing the nasty ruthless cunning and relentless villain. Heck, Cage knows he is not going up for an Oscar for this but he never fails to turn in polished performances regardless. In my book he's fun to watch and that's enough but even without Cage I kinda feel this would have hung together. My take on Cage is that he likes to do stuff he will find fun and if you don't go in expecting a blockbuster every time you watch a film, then this has plenty to offer for the average viewer.

Solid dark ages style action flick.
23 August 2018
There are only two negative reviews for this film. It's a shame really to have any but you will always get one person moved to write a review who thinks every movie has to be high art. Then yet another paranoid soul who is convinced every good review of a B grade independent movie must be associated with the production.

Thankfully neither of these things is true and if you want a solid Conan style action flick set in a dark ages type period this lives up to that wish.

The movie has a good feel and moves along nicely after the first twenty minutes. It takes a while to fit all the players into there places but once the action starts you will know who's who and enjoy watching their story arcs play out.

I also see other reviews criticising the costuming, weaponry etc used. I thought they did a good job but I guess there is no accounting for taste.

Great film for those who appreciate the genre!
5 June 2017
All the money went to Lou and Razor but that's not to say it's to the detriment of your overall enjoyment. While the rest of the actors range from poor moderate or simply OK, and just a few are occasionally good… Lou and Razor do a fine job, Razor's heartless bastard performance actually convinces. The movie itself moves at a reasonable pace, first 5 minutes aside. It reminds you of the 51st state with slightly lower production values.

Personal take…

This is the sort of film of which reviewers who should not leave a review because they do not embrace the genre will say things about like, "just wasted a half hour of my life".

In my case, I feel fans of Indie Brit flicks with that American twist will enjoy it, or anyone who just wants to see Jerry Anderson doing his best Ray Winstone impersonation. If you want a deeper plot or high production values with a perfect script then this may not be for you. For the former group there are some sadistic scenes and some reasonable action to be had (given Lou's getting on a bit).

High art this is not, but a guilty pleasure for some… maybe!

Overall, I enjoyed it.

Likable if pedestrian tale!
6 May 2017
One reviewer hated this and sure it's no polished Hollywood blockbuster.

Yet it is a charming tale about a young man who travels overseas to pursue his dreams and live up to his fathers image.

I found it funny and refreshing to watch a movie about a group of non alpha males who want to love and support each other. Remaining optimistic in the face of depressing realities of their daily lives.

You won't regret watching this if you like family movies or low humour drama's with a happy ending.

Give it a go, you can always switch off or turn over if it's not your thing, but I think you will end up watching it to the end.

Good B Revenge Action Flick.
24 January 2017
They allegations of bucket loads of blood and gore are overstated. As a revenge action flick it has enough action to keep most people happy. The reflections on the past add pathos.

Some of the characterizations are a little thinly drawn, but fortunately for us not the main roles; which are all filled with conviction. The violence though extreme occurs in context and without unduly being dwelt on.

Other reviewers really should try to be dispassionate and honest about there own sensitivities if they seek to achieve their presumed goal of guiding over people in their movie choices.

I would have given this a 6 but raised it to a 7 because the main roles are played well. The script isn't too shabby and the pace and length of the film was well considered in the edit.

This is good B movie action by any honest brokers standards.

As good as the first and the third.
7 November 2014
For those that are used to Luc Bessons work this will not be a disappointment. I can only say that the other reviewers of this film have gone into it with their expectations way to high or I was watching a completely different film to them. This is not Disney or Pixar and if you don't go into this expecting that then you it will not disappoint you. Other reviewers completely missed the point that the adult actors are supposed to behave like cartoon villain's.

The animation and creativity is top notch and the story feels half finished only because it is meant to be watched as part of a trilogy. Do yourself a favor and ignore the negative reviews. Give this film a shot but watch it as part of the trilogy as intended and you will be very pleasantly entertained. I will agree that this is a kids film for adults and I would recommend it for ages 8/9 and up.

All in all a thoroughly entertaining production.

Much better than some reviewers are portraying, ignore them!
28 January 2014
I agree with Jake Faktor, this film has got plenty going for it. Ably directed and shot it has the classic British indie film feel. It does not try to anything it's not which is why it works, even if it isn't a classic.

Skipping over the obvious reason for watching this film, which is Emily Attack. There really is a lot more going on here than the other reviewers are suggesting. If you like a low budget indie British flick every now and again then you will get what you'd expect, and be quite happy.

Have there been better Indie British flicks, yes. Will there be better Indie British flicks, yes.

Does that mean this one isn't worth watching, NO!!!!

People bashing this movie want their brains tested
28 January 2014
I'm not saying this is an all action knockout. This type of movie with all the archetypal plot progressions that been carried out before.

But it does it oh so well!!!!!!!!!

It has good pace from the beginning, well-drawn characters, and delivers right amount of information as the film progresses to keep you interested in what happens next. There are no obvious spoilers tipping you off and the resolution has some refreshing twists.

Yes, as I said it follows tried and tested formula's but does so 'oh so well' in the hands of some famous and other not so famous but excellent character actors.

Lastly, the ending works so you will feel satisfied you didn't waste an hour and a half of your life watching it.

Got a hell of a lot going for it.
28 January 2014
This film starts out on a slow burn, but is not about car chases, explosions or blood and gore. With that out the way, what it is, is warmly filmed and deftly directed. I found it a very enjoyable exploration of the aftermath of a civil war, and the impact that has on several young lives. Some reviewers have commented that setting that civil war in the UK is not realistic. But that is to wholly miss the point of this movie. It's a film about people under extreme adversity and random circumstance, the setting is peripheral. Its about they deal with the fast changing situation, and the changes that occur in them as a result. Well paced from at least a quarter of the way in the ending is emotional and moving. I'll leave it for you to judge if you agree with me. So long as your not looking for a happy movie, but something that digs a little deeper.... then I don't think you will be disappointed.
