Deepwater Horizon (2016)
What about consequences?
This movie depicts only the incident on the oil rig. The real disaster, the catastrophic consequences on the environment are not taken into the story line. I was expecting much more. You can learn a lot watching some videos on youtube.
Most important part of the story seems swept under the carpet and hidden to the audience.
The topic is so critical and the result is so outrageous that everything about screenplay, the acting, the visual effects, are not worth to be judged.
So disappointing that makes me angry. 3 stars, because after all is a good disaster movie. If it wasn't a true story it could be a 6.
Pompeii (2014)
Let's bury this under tons of magma.
How much can be realistic a love story between a slave and a young roman patrician girl? Well, this is not the point. We are going to see a motion picture and the plot could also be something not so original. But falling in love because our hero kills a wounded horse this is just ridiculous. This gave me the strong suspect the screenplay was very poorly scripted. As I saw the first end credit all my suspect were gone and I was sure about that. Unfortunately, the screenplay is not the worst thing in this movie. Kit Harington is totally unfit for the role of a gladiator. The trainer and the nutritionist did their job but his lack of charisma, his expressionless eyes are unable to captivate the spectator. Better performance for Emily Browning but nothing special. With a screenplay like that, she act at the best she can and is the only (with Carrie-Ann Moss) I could save among this mess. The other main character is played by Kiefer Sutherland. Nothing special to say about him. He act but seems unfit to the role. He also sunk within the screenplay. CGI effects are the best part of the movie but I'm not taking it into consideration because they add nothing to the story.
With a better plot, better dialogs and with a different ending, this movie could have been enjoyable... but in the projection room, everyone was waiting the Vesuvio to erupt, bury this movie and go home.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Well.... Overrated...
I was waiting to see this movie since I watched the first trailer spreading over Internet. Scorsere, DiCaprio and a surprising McConaughey (in the restaurant scene) gave me the impression I was going to see a masterpiece. After three hours of projection, everything that I remember is that this movie depicts naked girls, drug addicted guys and Jonah Hill that masturbates in front of Margot Robbie. There's no memorable quote, scene or something that make me think "Maybe I can buy the BRay or DVD because I want see it again sometimes at home" ...and it lasts three hours!!! The whole movie is kept up by DiCaprio, he's a proved first-class actor but alone, in this movie, can't do miracles. McConaughey character was not developed at all and we can almost consider his role as a cameo. He disappear in the first half hour. Probably he deserved the role of Donnie Azoff, a character that Jonah Hill is unable to boost to his real potential. DiCaprio an McConaughey together could have been a more interesting duo. DiCaprio would have been a solid shoulder and McConaughey could have been achieved a performance to remember.
But the real problem in this movie is the story.
Jordan Belfort story is nothing else that sex, drugs, and steal money cheating investors. He was arrested, sentenced and spent 22 months in jail. Now he teaches how to sell to other people.
There's nothing to be proud, nothing memorable in this. Like in this movie...
