The Magic Prank Show with Justin Willman: Oversleeping the Apocalypse (2024)
Willman compromises
I've loved most of Willman's comedy shows. So sad in this episode to see an obviously faked program. From the drop dead hypnosis which everyone knows is just people who make themselves susceptible to suggestion...to the sleep chamber rocking around in a truck. Loading it in and out, tilting, bumping. The 'marks' bad acting confirming all suspicions by the end. Must be tough when you realize a setup is impossible to deliver, assuming the fakery wasn't decided from the beginning. But by compromising...future cred is destroyed. All the other episodes were good. Some were great! Just bums me out, and feels a bit insulting to have fakery taint the show. Do better.
Wizards of the Lost Kingdom (1985)
As if it were made for Mystery Science Theatre 3K
Some of the actresses are attractive. The villain looked the part. And Bo Svenson speaks English. That's the end of any praise, other than the unintentional hilarity of the costumes, special effects, dialogue and cinematography.
Every stone and castle scene is an homage to stucco and paper machet. The yeti-like mascot looks like a hobo draped in a synthetic fur rug. And child actor Vidal Palacios (Peterson), who played Simon, has disappeared since this film was released.
I'd only recommend watching on the 2023 MST3K release on Netflix. While its easy to criticize, I've gotta say I'm thankful for awful old flicks like this one. Hope the actors had fun making them.
