Set in 1987 Romania. Still Relevant Globally.
In the light of recent events that have taken place in America (Overturning of Roe v. Wade), this film is now more important than ever.
As soon as the film starts it hits you with an unsettling feeling which lingers & gradually grows throughout the rest of the film. People in power are often misguided & have a twisted sense of morality which makes them blind sighted. The power trip often makes them think they are superior while neglecting/dismissing the opposite persons ideology & views without giving them a fair shot.
People are going to get an abortion whether it's legal or not. The only difference is that it will be unsafe & probably life threatening for the woman carrying it. This reflects when Otilia a university student bravely steps up for her friend Gabita who is 4 months pregnant and wants to terminate her pregnancy. As abortion was restricted under the communist Romanian government, they had to find an alternate way to get the procedure done.
The turn of events which happen during & after the procedure are anxiety inducing. Otilia's anger, frustration & fear clearly shows thanks to the powerful portrayal of the character by Anamaria Marinca.
This story is just one of many possibilities that many women have had/ are having/ will have. We are truly living in the Kali Yuga. What fascists, bigots & zealots consider to be a utopian society is actually a dystopian society. This film proves it.
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
They did it!
Yeah, they did! You must be wondering what I'm talking about?
HOW DID THEY MANAGE TO MAKE SERIES FINALE WORSE THAN THE PREVIOUS ONE?
You would've thought the writers must've learnt from the mistakes they've made in the past? Boy, were you wrong! Nothing made sense.
What the hell was the point of bringing Batista back in the mix? We couldn't even watch him & Dexter interact. If that's not what you call a missed opportunity then I don't know what is. Dexter hurting Logan was so out of character for him. To top it all off, the writers thought Harrison killing Dexter would set him free & not mess him up even more than before? HAHAHA!!
Lol, I don't know if I'm sad that they screwed the finale once again or happy because this dumpster fire of a so called "redemption arch" has finally come to an end.
Euphoria: Trouble Don't Last Always (2020)
This episode really hit hard!
Let me start off by saying, this episode was one of my favorite Euphoria episodes till date. For some reason, I was able to relate so hard to what Ali was saying (even though I don't do drugs lol). I have never seen someone describe addiction like the way he did. Sensitive topics like self-shaming/blaming, guilt, life & death were handled so maturely & sincerely.
The writing for this episode was splendid! The hard hitting dialogues were impactful. Colman & Zendaya absolutely crushed it with their amazing performances & did justice to their characters.
I must admit, I was a little confused but happy at the same time seeing Rue & Jules make out & have a sweet moment in the beginning. I was like, wait a minute... did I miss something? I gradually figured out like everyone else that Rue was high as a kite & most likely hallucinating.
I know this isn't the "typical" Euphoria episode everyone knows & loves but I hope everyone enjoys this special as much as I did. Can't wait for part 2!
Blind (2014)
An amalgamation of fantasy & reality
What happens when a blind woman is left alone throughout the day & the only thing accompanying her are her dreams/fantasy/inner monologue, whatever you'd like to call it.
Well, I got to see this Norwegian indie film today & to say it's a decent film would be an understatement.
I really like how the director manages to blur the lines between what's real & what's going on in Ingrid's mind. I'm a sucker for the scenes in which a character or the location change in a fraction of a second, just like the scene in Memento where Sammy Jankis is replaced by Leonard.
As far as I understand, the major ongoing theme in this film seems to be loneliness & other themes follow as a result/consequence of it.
However, I don't get the over the top nudity in this film. What's the point of it? Of course I understand that since she's blind, she wants to make the most use of the senses she has got left. Still, somewhere along the line I felt it was a bit too much & unnecessary in some places. Particularly the the porn sequence (which could've been cut short & less vulgar) & the scene where she strips naked & leans against the window.
In conclusion, this film is worth a watch.
Harley Quinn (2019)
Trying too hard to be edgy
Let me start off by saying, I love everything related to DC. But the first episode was a bummer. I couldn't bring myself to watch the pilot for more than 5 minutes. FYI, I don't have a problem with usage of dark humor, gore and explicit language. The real problem is that the show tries too hard to be edgy just for the sake of it which in turn makes the show a cringe fest.
