Sooooooooo slooooooooowwwwwwwww!!!!

Wow! I felt as if the first episode was hours long! I fully understand pace to add suspense, but it's like watching paint dry...in slow motion. For such an intense series of events it was as if the director was hoping you would fall asleep and not notice this limited series felt longer than several seasons of an actual series. I say pass on this and take an hour to just read what happened.

50 First Dates...
25 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
with the sociopath that left you for dead! Sure, there were some tense moments and it did leave you guessing (somewhat) throughout most of the film but that being said, was it 'plausible' knowing that he was a sociopath? Maybe. Was it 'likely' even though he was a sociopath. Yeah, not really. Sadly, that also left you with too many questions. Such as. The husband and son were not dead so why did they just shut her out of their lives? (and no, "because of Adam" just doesn't seem any more 'likely' than the rest of the film) Why did the husband... who professed to love her very much... never attempt to check-in with his wife (even indirectly i.e. with the hospital) for four years? Why did the son never attempt to find out what happened to his mother (who he also proclaimed to love very much) when she disappeared and his dad stopped communicating with for four years? Why did "Mike" leave his captive alone for hours and hours each day knowing full well that she could just leave and the entire situation unravel... as it pretty much did? Why did the doctor not research more about her husband/son/life prior to the "accident/trauma" if his goal was to get her to remember it all? Too many loose ends and flaws to be as tight and realistic as it could have been. Sorry.

10 years long.
10 January 2015
While this was a great concept the reality was less so. If you had been able to really get to know the characters in depth you might enjoy it more but with the leaps in time you get a very short almost two-dimensional view of them. Nothing really exciting or even interesting happens overall. It is just a long....very long... three hours of watching a boy physically grow up and the people around him come, go, and physically change. Mason almost becomes a prop passing through his world and the lives around him yet never really touching it or them. He and the other main characters seem disjointed and almost foreign at times which I can only imagine they felt since it was shot over just 45 days, or roughly 1%, of the odd 10.5 year period that it was filmed. One review I saw compared it to reading a biography but a better explanation would be watching a slide show of 10 years worth of pictures with quick verbal explanations of each slide. Not quite uninteresting but not exactly fascinating or even really insightful of the individuals in the pictures.

Great start...
29 January 2014
The acting and direction were excellent. Not surprised by that though with Joseph Gorden-Levitt and the rest of the cast. I was really looking forward to watching it and initially it was all that I expected and hoped for. But then this film that started off as an insightful and realistic portrayal of men and their views/ perceptions of, and interactions with, sex went off the rails and became a train-wreck. Unfortunately it suddenly and disappointingly spiraled into an unrealistic and pointless "see...men really ARE sensitive!" 'chick flick'. Men only care about their egos and how things effect their egos. Sex impacts their egos and so they care about sex. How to get it, get more of it, and how other men will perceive them for how much they are getting and with who. Everything else is pointless. The end of this film attempted to portray the reality as men are really all about emotions when everyone knows they are not. Pity.

Jerry Springer with money.
24 February 2012
I give this film two stars only for the fact that the actors were brilliant. However, I felt as if I was watching a family from the old "Pigtown"/west-end/Highlandtown area of Baltimore or Essex/Dundalk, MD and "The Jerry Springer Show" that had won the Lottery five years prior and so had finally been able to move out of the trailer park and take on the trappings, that they believed, made them upper-crust. i.e. martinis and a house on the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis; yet had never really left their trailer park ways and mentality. Sad and painful to watch and since I do not believe that was the intent of the writer/director I found the film a failure.

great his/herstory film
12 July 2006
i enjoyed the film and found it very informative and entertaining. having grown up in the lesbian/gay community as it grew from the late 50's and early 60's thru the stonewall period...the aids crisis and now the new century i could relate to much in the film. all to often the male homosexual community has ignored the female homosexual community or worse acted as the male straight community has. many in the female homosexual community have downplayed the efforts of many homosexual men because they did not follow the interests of the female homosexual community. no effort by the straight community could ever have the effect of our own infighting. everyone involved with the community should watch it to learn more about our his/herstory.
