New Girl: Prince (2014)
Season 3, Episode 14

PRINCE!
5 March 2024
The greatest rockstar of all time descends from his mighty guitarformed cloud, 2 grace the world of sitcom.

He should've done more stuff like this. People don't realise, but he actually had a great sense of humour.

They cover the ping pong, the pancakes and the wild freakout of people who got near him.

Prince was otherworldly. An untouchable musician, if not a supergreat actor, and what he does in this episode is amazing. I wish he'd been a recurring character from then on. Kinda like a dream-genie purple Yoda, that could've come in once in a while to help solve the characters problems.

It's not hard 2 "Fall in Love 2nite" with this amazing episode!

Jury Duty (2023– )
10/10
The jury is out: This show is great!
10 December 2023
I knew nothing about this show, safe from what I heard on Red Letter Media's 2023 movie catch-up.

It's so funny, surprising and heartwarming. I took it all in one sitting.

I wish there was more original content like this. It really shows what happens when VERY different people are brought together to solve a task.

Marsden is great as himself and the unknowing lead, Ronald, is probably the nicest guy I've ever seen on tv. The Bizarro Larry David, in fact.

The production is immaculate, and this is what American tv can.

My advice is: Read as little as you possibly can about this show, sit back and enjoy the ride. You won't regret it.

Insomnia (1997)
2/10
Awful movie
3 July 2023
The two stars are: 1. For Stellan Skarsgård, who is always fascinating to watch.

The other is for the fact, that this movie inspired the masterpiece "Insomnia", directed by Christopher Nolan.

To say that Nolans film is a remake, is really a stretch. The comparisons seems almost incidental.

In this movie, the characters go about like Norwegian and Swedish robots. There's no inner life, they act completely illogical, and the underlying theme of insomnia is poorly executed.

The American version is elegant, mystical, fascinating and logical in its build up.

Avoid this travesty by all means. You'll regret you spend any time with it. See the Nolan masterpiece instead.

Great show!
16 February 2023
With the arrival of this series, people are acting like the original movie was some kinda timeless, flawless masterpiece of exquisite cinema. Truth is, it was a delightfully corny piece of childrens adventurefilm. Nothing wrong with that. Disney (who seems to able to do no wrong (just look at the extraordinary Marvel and SW shows)) has hit a homerun once more.

This is funny, light entertainment that doesn't take itself too seriously. Just like the best 80's bubblegum movies. So cast off the shackles of ludicrously extreme expectations, and sit down and enjoy this funny adventure.

Oh, and I do hope the haters will be blue in the face, when, hopefully, season 2 is announced.

A near-perfect super hero movie!
15 February 2023
I'm a huge fan of the MCU, but lately it's dragged on a bit. No Way Home was a masterpiece, and so was Multiverse of Madness. But Ms. Marvel, Love and Thunder, She-Hulk and Black Panther 2 felt kinda mediocre in comparrison. Don't get me wrong. Even "mediocre" MCU is better than 95% of everything else.

In that light, Quantumania is stellar! Great story, funny performances and flawless execution, makes this one the most epic ride since Endgame.

Finally it's all coming together. The multiverse storyline has been a long time coming, but it's beginning to make sense now. We can expect further delvings into this, in upcoming The Marvels, Loki season 2, Fantastic Four etc.

The future looks bright, and the MCU seems to be back on track!

Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021–2022)

This show is absolutely brilliant!
23 January 2023
No wonder if TV viewers are sometimes regarded as being braindead. This show is amazing. It's dark, funny (intentionally, uintentionally, intentionally/unintentionally and unintentionally/intentionally (it's all, in fact, intentionally)), original, twisted, weird and... sweet.

People saying they don't get it, or that they skip over the sitcom bits, are missing the point entirely. It's playing with expectations, and is doing everything it can to make you feel uncomfortable, while you are rooting for the women, and not wanting you them to carry out their dark scheme. It's kinda like "9 to 5", "American Beauty" AND "Everybody Loves Raymond" & "All in the Family" mashed together, to show you the horrible flipside of the shallow entertainment we so often settle with. It's amazing to watch, and I kinda dread where all this is going!

A mess!
7 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I went to see this one when it came out, thought it was horrible. Rewatched it last night, and I stick to my opinion.

This movie is a mess. Flat humor. No build up. Uinspiring character's. Too many villians. Lame touchy-feely scenes. Idiotic revision of Uncle Ben's murder. A pointless use of the Symbiote. Overstuffed script. Bad direction. Topher Grace (UGH!). Unfunny Peter Parker. Bad design of Spidey's black suit. Tedious Harry Osborn. MJ phoning it in. And so on, and so on...

This is actually one of the worst super hero movies of the past 25 year. 1 and 2 were awesome, so why did it go wrong? Producer's meddling, that's why. This script should've been streamlined, had no Symbiote and Venom, and left enough room for things to breathe. Instead we got a muddled mess, that ended Tobey Maguires tenure as the webslinger. Too bad, actually.

Quite enjoyable!
7 September 2022
This movie surprised me. More so, cos the predecessor was so bad. In this one we have a fine Casey Jones, a so-so Shredder, a hammy Krang, a useless Baxter Stockman and glorious Bebop and Rocksteady camping out. It's actually kinda great.

Even Megan "Wooden-face" Fox is sorta charming. The Turtles look better, and we get a script that's more fun and streamlined. Even the action setpieces are worth it and not cringe and headache inducing.

But, but, but... They totally didn't get Raph's character right. He is not "Muscle". He is a lonewolf, sometimes rogue, character. Why don't they write the character's as they are? They were so close.

The ending is kinda lame, but I wonder why there never was a sequel. They were kinda getting the hang of it.

An enjoyable watch, if you don't expect too much.

Tired Manuscript Nonsense Trash
5 September 2022
Well, it's not QUITE that bad, but IS kinda lame. This movie totally lacks any charm or wit. It has no personality.

We're treated to yet another origin story. They could at least try to shake up the formula a bit. New toppings on the pizza, thank you very much.

But the worst thing is of course Megan Fox. She couldn't act, even if she was jizzed in the face by a radioactive Brando. It is horrible to watch.

As a fan, I still recommend to avoid this one. Read the comic books instead, play the games, go watch the 1990 original, and wait for another decent movie outing. This one ain't it.

And that is that!

Ego's aside.
17 August 2022
Imagine if Tobey Maguire had stepped aside, and perhaps gotten Nicholas Cage to play Bobby. It's a part he was born to play, but oddly never got. Oh, what could've been. As is, this movie is ok, but nothing more. As a chess- and Fischer fanatic, however, I'm somewhat satisfied.

The Sandman (2022– )
10/10
I was dreaming when I wrote this...
6 August 2022
... 4give me if it goes astray.

This show is damn near perfect. As a HUGE fan of the comic, I kinda dreaded this. But that was in vain. The show lives up to it's parent, and even improves on it occassionally.

The casting is great, the writing on point, and the music and visuals are stellar.

This is, in short, the show of the year.

And now a comment on all the woke and gender-swapping nonsense: One mistake that fans always tend to do, is take ownership of the thing they love. I made that mistake regarding Star Wars. I once thought, that the creator's were obligated to make MY Star Wars film/show. They were not.

Just accept this version of The Sandman, and if you can't, then just don't watch it. Don't impose your reactionary discourse on a story, that's always been about crossing borders, developement and change. If you can't accept that, just move on. I bet you haven't understood the morale of the wonderful Sandman in the first place.

Delightfully weird!
15 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is not for everyone. It feels like a David Lynch adaptation, of a Thomas Pynchon novel.

Weird symbols and markers makes up a mystery, that probably mostly takes place in the protagonist's head. It's about a whole generation (mine, Generation X) gone completely crazy, by the (brainwashed?) obsession of popculture.

Expect this movie to screw with you. It takes multiple viewings to get it all. Nothing is what it seems.

So there you have it. Take the deep dive, on your own discretion.

Aguably the greatest gangster epic of all time!
11 April 2022
It's between this one, The Godfather 1+2 or Goodfellas. But OUATIA might just take the prize.

The performances, the scope of the story, the editing, cinematograhy and the music is flawless.

But it is the perfect production design and the brilliant direction (with Leone's special sense for details) that makes this movie stand out.

This is a timeless masterpiece. A true classic!

Dreyer's Passion!

This is Dreyer's best silent movie, and his fourth best overall (only topped by Ordet, Day of Wrath and Gertrud). A timeless classic, forever relevant with its powerful performances, impeccable direction, genius cinematograhy and flawless production design.

An accidental spoof...
30 December 2021
This movie is a masterclass in ineptness. Still, it is totally mesmerizing. It's impossible to turn off, incredibly entertaining and is worth watching multiple times. How many movies can you honestly say that about?

But 10 stars? Really? Maybe I'm as inept to judge movies, as mr. Wood was to make them...

THERE'S NO STRUCTURE!
2 September 2021
I have a tough time with these loose, no structure, no plot movies of the 70's.

But Verhoeven and Hauer are mesmerizing. Despite that, this movie will test your patience. Hard to turn off, though. So... I don't know...

Archetypes abound!
21 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There's much to love about this remake of a remake (the 1960 one was based on Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai'). Mostly I think it's fascinating how this is basically Marvel's Avengers in the wild west. The archetypes they both share are:

Chisolm = Captain America Goodnight = Tony Stark Jack Horne = The Hulk Billy = Black Widow Vasquez = Thor Red Harvest = Hawkeye Faraday (surprise, surprise) = Star-Lord

Only two things bother me about this movie.

1. Why didn't Chisolm seek revenge on Bogue sooner? His entire family was killed and he's not a young guy. It's a plothole brought on by the screenwriters, cos they wanted to make it more personal for Chisolm. However, I don't remember this angle from the original and it becomes problematic in the end.

2. In the beginning, when Bogue is talking about capitalism. This didn't sit right with me. I don't think that capitalism was talked about as an ideology in the old west. That's clearly a modern day screenwriter, trying to blatantly get a point across to the backrow ordiance.

Otherwise this was pretty good, with a stellar cast. The kinda movies that we need to see alot more of.

They sure don't make 'em like they used to.
21 July 2021
I'm not one of those old farts who thinks, that everything was better in the old days. There are certainly good movies coming out today. But this is a genre that has completely died out: The intelligent, warm comedy.

Ron Howard is a great director and there are fine performances all around. Especially from Tom "the poor man's Robert Downey jr." Hulce.

Great flick.

It is watchable and mildly entertaining. Seen much better movies in this genre. Good performances saves it, though it sometimes plays out like a 1970's American tv-show.
