Typical Mexican college students' of the 50s portrayed here
8 February 2006
I saw this movie on TV some time ago, and I'd like to watch it again. It is quite similar to others produced in Mexico in the 50s, the Rock 'n Roll influence from the USA on the Mexican youth. It shows the Mexico University newer facility as it was, brand new. It doesn't have much for acting; good one liners, some good comedians act here. The fact that makes this film unique, is that Juan García Esquivel (Esquivel!, space pop age band leader) appears here, does some acting, and performs a couple of songs. One of them is the Mexican release of Vereda Tropical, with chorus and his orchestra, which is an indicator of the path that Esquivel would take when he was called by the RCA record company to make recordings for them in stereo. If you never saw Esquivel perform, this might be of interest.

Funny criticism to politicians anywhere!

I saw this movie when I was about 12 yo, but remember it as one of the fine comedies made in Mexico. Palmiro (Luis Sandrini)is the valet of the ambassador of a non-existent country, who is attending an event in Mexico City where other country's ambassadors are attending to, sort of UN, I think. As the story goes, Palmiro shows he is a bit clumsy, but good natured fellow. The ambassador (Roberto Soto) and he go to a restaurant in Mexico, and Palmiro pours hot sauce on the ambassador's dish, none of them familiar with it and its effects. The ambassador gets sick because of this and sends his speech to be read by the secretary at the podium; somehow Palmiro's identity gets mistaken, and is taken to be the ambassador. I think this happens because this is such a small country, that nobody knows anyone from it. As Palmiro starts delivering the speech, all the meaningless and metaphoric words written in it, make Palmiro to stop, and asks the audience: Is this a forum for agriculture or a poetry convention? He then delivers his own personal opinion, that in the end, is widely acclaimed by all the other ambassador, while, the real ambassador, still staying at the hospital from the hot sauce's effects, bits his lip from hearing Palmiro. The whole situation is quite hilarious. In the end, Palmiro gets married and stays in Mexico as the official Ambassador. I'm sorry this picture is no longer available anywhere, I'd sure recommend it as one of the better comedies in its time

Funny from the first to the last minute

Though it was a long time ago I watched this movie, I remember most of it and also the laughter it provided; in fact this was the time I got to know David Niven and Jean Paul Belmondo fine comedy acting. At the time I was about 15 and was getting started in the fine art of watching good movies, so this one really impressed me. . It is 60's style humor alright, if you're into special effects and high tech stuff, you may not appreciate it. I would love to see it re-released it on DVD, it is as good or better than the inspector Clouseau's Movies (and the Pink Panther, featuring David Niven too, is a fine comedy movie) Don't let it go into oblivion. If you ever watch it, prepare yourself for some good laughs.
