The Shape of Water (2017)
Magic realism ar its best
If you love Del Torro's style, then you shouldn't miss this movie. The two protagonists, Eliza and Richard, are presented as the kids of a fallen God, alone, miserables, but at least they have each other. Their routine changes when a strange creature is captured by American secret agents. This film is a trip to ultimate theosis, an allegory of how love can be found in the most unexpected places. Please, go beyond the litteral appearances. The film has a deep symbolical meaning and a very original scenario.
Quotes from the film:
Unable to perceive the shape of you
I find you all around me
Your presence fills my eyes with your love
It hambles my heart
For you are everywhere.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Pure 10
Amazing story, great images and good performances. The story behind a young marginalised and abandoned by everyone girl, that still managed to leave her impact on the world, is so empowering and impactful! I never liked drama films, but I saw this one twice this week. There is something mesmerising in the movie, from the landscapes to the flow of the plot, that will not leave you unintrigued. I don't know why somebody could hate that movie. Maybe, they judge it harsh becauae of the book. It is obvious that film adaptations are not ao detailed as the books, as it happens in this case. However, the development of the characters, their suffering and of course their redemption are all there, presented naturally, without rush. 10/10!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
A dream came true!
As a big first generation Spiderman fan, I never thought that this day would come! Not only Dr Oc, The Green Goblin and Sandman return, but their existance has a true contribution to the plot of this film. They are treated from a different perspective as the lost souls who can return home. Tobbey is finally back! And Andrew too! The interesting part is that they have not only reprised their roles, but they have matured and evolved. Generally, I don't care about any inconsistances, this film was epic!
Reina de corazones (2014)
One of the best telenovelas ever!
As long as you keep in mind that it is a telenovela, which means many inaccuracies and exaggerated situations, I have to praise the fast plot, the twists but most of all the intelligence of the characters, especially Bolivar's. Finally, a serie in which the main couple doesn't break up when everyone is against it. Favourite character: Isidoro. After La Vida que Me Robo, it's my second favourite telenovela. Good job!
The Mummy (1999)
If you are searching for a negative review, then move on. Not going to find it here!
It's Saturday night during the corona pandemic and you feel nostalgic? Then the Mummy is the perfect movie for you. I have never met someone who dislikes this film. Some may find it silly, somme outdated, but it has that quality that captures you no matter how many times you have rewatched it. Personnally, I think that it is a great example of its genre, it is funny and the chemistry between the two protagonists is one of a kind! Hands-down 10/10! Please make a remake with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz!
Winter's Tale (2014)
Amazing tale, I rewatch it every year!
In a world of sadness, suspicion and disbelief this film is a jewel of hope! I am not a fan of love stories, but this one is so different. It is not limited to the description of a couple's story. It is about true love that is beyond time, beyond evil, above all. Besides, there is no point in trying to be accurate and close to reality, when it is just a winters tale! Just watch it!
