Vacation (2015)
THE NEXT PULP FICTION
Wow, incredible, innovative, genius and not cliche and repetitive raunchy gag jokes over, and over, and over again. A timeless classic that truly challenges the mind.
Burn After Reading (2008)
Do people not get the humor in this?
This is one of the funniest movies to date. It moves quickly, it's witty, and funny, and nothing is more entertaining than Brad Pitt acting like an adolescent egging on an ex CIA member. This goes up there with Big Lebowski and Fargo for me. Quirky excellence.
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
Guilty pleasure fun
This movie is nothing but a fun grindhouse thrillride. "What? Were they psychos?"
Breaking Bad (2008)
I was skeptical of the hype, but it lives up to it.
This is the greatest show from start to finish to hit television, it truly is the masterpiece fans make it out to be.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Tarantino's most misguided, slight narcissistic, but cool moments film.
This movie had some really cool visuals. There were a few moments I laughed out loud. The scene within a scene, Leo acting in other films was really cool. Brad was funny.
Leo with a flamethrower is classic. But I can't help but feel throughout 3/4 of this movie that it was just full of itself, and Hollywood elite stuff none of us care about or relate to.
I like buddy cop movies (in this one, two, aging actor/stunt double combo) but for 3 hours and with no story? Can't say it worked just for a thrown in violent ending (which is not as great as everyone is making it out to be) with no other characters returning or really doing much.
I'm a massive Tarantino fan, but I feel like this idea was not fully developed or even about anything worthwhile. Yes, we understand the changing of times, the struggling to adapt, the Manson murders, but we also understand that Hollywood is completely full of itself, and that's how this movie feels.
Maybe it will grow for me like the Hateful Eight did, but as of right now this stands at the bottom for Tarantino films.
Jackie Brown (1997)
This is one of the best straightforward, coolest movies ever made
I am so glad Tarantino made this movie. Absolutely gem, great dialogue, great acting, great story, love it.
Hateful Eight is his most misunderstood.
This is easily his most under appreciated.
The Hateful Eight (2015)
Extended Edition is a bit better! Overall, a grower and overlooked.
I went into this movie expecting a crazy thrillride with a bunch of Tarantino greats, and action packed shootouts. This is not that. This is a well paced arthouse movie, like Reservoir Dogs, or Dusk Till Dawn, or any good stage play, focused mainly on the dialogue/story telling and spurts of violence and surprises. If you like really dark comedy/gallow humor, you may love this movie, that was its best feature.
This truly went from being my least favorite Tarantino movie, to one of my favorite movies after a rewatch recently. Especially the extended edition...which I have no idea why they cut some of these lines out, they are hilarious, catch this version if you can, it is a must. Same with the added scenes and flashback playout felt too add a lot to the feel of the movie.
Yes, it did seem to drag a bit at the 3rd chapter, since we knew the twist at this point, but it was still cool to see, just didn't need to take so much time off. The violence was fine to me, it was riffing off The Thing and old brutal westerns (also Carrie?) which felt pretty obvious to me, but the violence on women was definitely hard to see (which had a purpose behind it)
Basically, don't go in expecting Inglorious Basterds or Kill Bill, it's an artpiece of itself, going for something totally different for Tarantino, which is refreshing in retrospect. Think of the Coen Brothers doing True Grit. It's just a change in pace and you may appreciate it more with an open mindset.
