New Year's Rockin' Eve 2008 (2007)
Two hours of air time, 20 minutes of show!
With all the talent in the world, and such a great opportunity for entertainers to appear in NYC for New Years, ABC spent 2 hours asking obscure crowd members questions that we didn't even care about the answers. The microphones picked up every noise EXCEPT the voices of the people holding the microphones! Looks like the powers that be figured everyone would be partying and no one would be watching TV. This used to be THE show to watch on New Year's Eve. No matter where you were, Dick Clark was there with you to bring in the New Year. What a disappointment. I've always been excited for the midnight celebration, but never felt like screaming, "Drop the ball already!"
Ellen's Really Big Show (2007)
America's got talent...NOT
Just finished watching Ellen's Really Big Show, could have better spent my time watching the neighborhood Jr. High talent show. The acts looked like America's Got Talent losers. I thought if I had to listen one more time to Ellen follow up an act with the phrase, "just like I taught you" I would puke. Being a huge Ellen fan I expected sooooo much more. I give it two points for the three minutes of air time for Lyle Lovett. I pity those in the audience who traveled and sat through 90 minutes of juggling and Barry Manilow. If this is the result of a writer's strike, I'll personally pitch in to get the writers back. Sadly, this has been advertised since long before the strike. Are there so many channels now we are this desperate for "entertainment?" There's got to be better things to put on TV.
