Dag (2010)
Dude nonchalantly kills a dog because its annoying him in the second episode
In the second episode the mc is manipulated by his love interest into going to a therapy his sister had already paid for, and while at the therapist he ends up monologuing a bunch during which he somehow ends up getting really enraged. While all this is happening, there is this overly excited dog in the room barking a lot which he finds very annoying. After some time the dog calms down and during this time the therapist asks a question which apparently becomes the last straw for this dude, and in reaction he grabs the dog (who is now calm and just sitting by the therapists feet), and throws it out of the window with the dog landing a couple stories down on a car's roof, most likely dead or critically injured. Then this dude just walks out like its no big deal.
I am no writer and I guess 'black' comedy is supposed to be dark and stuff but this guy nonchalantly killing an innocent animal because of something like anger is something psychopaths do and they can't really be treated. Kinda stopped watching after this because character development is something that is inherently impossible for psychopaths. I don't think a show about a cynical dude finding love with some manic pixie dream girl works for a literal psychopath.
Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (2022)
great show
Its not accurate and takes great liberties. If you wanted to learn about the lakers and basketball history, its probably not a good show for that.
Its like an alternate universe where 80s still kinda similar enough to ours that it doesn't feel like an alien world, there's humans and basketball in that universe too. Like it takes characters who they don't have to introduce since most people have at least some idea about these guys, and tells an entertaining story with them using the backdrop of basketball and 80s and LA. Its got well written characters, good enough cinematography, its a well crafted and enjoyable show if you don't care about the 'inaccuracies', which honestly you shouldn't since this is not a documentary claiming to tell a true story.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Writing is CW tier
Writing felt like it was from legends of tomorrow, and the villain was really underwhelming. The villain felt like they had no depth, was like a brat acting out the whole time and then when it turned out she was a darth vader stalker/groupie, it was really cringe.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Great message regarding compassion in the face of nihlism
The movie has a lot of heart. It has a low budget but everything is executed so well from the special effects making good use of the camera, the few settings used in such creative manners, and the few actors that portray the variety of roles so well. The movie is a joy to experience.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Really great show
Seems to remind me of the star trek shows from the 60s and 70s. Has the wholesomeness, philosophical debate, some science and captures the spirit of the old shows. Feels really comfy to watch, hopefully quality remains the same as the first 2 episodes.
Uncharted (2022)
Wish I could rate it lower than 1
It so bad, it just spouts off exposition the whole time, does nothing to let the characters breathe, every line is like a one liner or exposition. It does nothing to make you care about the characters and none of the characters have any charm or are compelling at all.
The dialogue is so much worse than the videogame, I have no idea how this script went through to receive $120 million to be made into a movie, literally so many people must have had to make so many decisions in approval of this, it boggles my mind. The executives must have all failed upwards for something like this to be made.
Moon Knight (2022)
no compelling characters
Bad guy is lame, dude is like the bad guy from a kids anime, really edgy pretends to be a good guy, but threw a tantrum when he couldn't get his way.
Good guy is literally shinji with a split personality.
Its a very cringe watch.
Tacoma FD (2019)
Mean spirited humor
First season is fairly good but second season onwards they dial up on the mean spiritedness of the humor, where most jokes usually are at someone's expense which is fine occasionally but gets kind of old when its the standard.
Its an ok show to have running in the background.
Peacemaker (2022)
Amazing
Can't really complain about anything, its probably the best superhero show so far, steers clear of soapy drama. Has comedy in spades, goes in unexpected plot directions and stays fresh pretty much the whole time.
Mayor of Kingstown (2021)
No focus
First couple episode kinda alright but the rest is garbage.
There is no focus on anything, everyone is super ultra emotional about everything.
Its sad that this show managed to get good actors and a decent budget only to squander it with extremely horrible writing. These people can't write, don't know how they managed to get this gig.
Narcos: México (2018)
Season 1 and 2 are 9/10, but Season 3 is 1/10
Season 1 and 2 are really great. For them, it felt that the writers tried to be plausible with their dramatic stuff and tried to use enough historical checkpoints to attempt for it to be at least somewhat tied to reality.
Season 3 however pretty much feels like bad fanfiction. It's full of preachy plotlines (the journalists and that dea agent), feels as if its a new writing team that have no idea why the first two seasons were actually good. I am thankful that this show has ended since it probably would just get worse if these writers were allowed to continue with their fanfic. They should just put that out on their tumblr or blog or something.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
Comfy show
Steve Martin and Martin Short are great in this. Selena Gomez can't really act and has to always be carried in pretty much every scene. She can do things(like walk around, be sneaky or do some action scenes) but when it comes to actually acting, she can't really do facial expressions. You can really see that in the scenes with oscar and her mom, where it feels like a crappy cw show. I don't know how she got past audition.
The writing, directing and sound design are all great but man Selena Gomez really adds nothing to the show, thankfully they don't have too many scenes focusing on her face while she is acting so we are spared a bit.
Ghosts: Dinner Party (2021)
unfunny
This episode was a pain to watch because of how unfunny it was. The gag of ghosts bothering the main character to have her act out in front of those who can't see the ghosts had already run its course with the first two episodes and then this episode also relied heavily on the same crutch.
Black Widow (2021)
Lame and pervy villain, Horrible CGI
Movie was alright other than the villain. Dude was so weird and pervy, and his motivations didn't make sense, and kind of ruined the entire movie. After learning about this dude, I went back to start and skimmed through, and the fact that he had all these serious soldiers employed for his pervy schemes was ridiculous. It kind of works if you don't know the villain and their motivations, but once you do the movie becomes a joke that takes itself too seriously.
Ted Lasso: Carol of the Bells (2021)
Felt gross, like the current day stepford wives
This episode was really weird. Everyone was super nice and all but it was like one of those creepy episodes where people are masquerading around as cheerful happy people. Also the bad breath side story felt super preachy. It's like the writers got 'woke' this season (the Dubai air episode) and show is worse for it.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021)
Clickbait
This is bait, this has nothing to do with he-man. It's an exercise in bad faith, they decided to desecrate an old beloved show to shove their agenda down other's throats.
I remember he-man being a badly written campy but ultimately a fun show to watch. Its still badly written, and deliberate attempts have been made to make it campy but its not fun anymore, has none of that charm.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet (2020)
Season 2 has been really good
If season 1 was more about the company and the game, season 2 is much more personal and its much better for it.
Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (2003)
One of the best things to come out of 'art'
This is the supreme culmination of my two favorite mediums and kind of broke my brain when I was a kid. I couldn't believe that something like this exists and honestly, even now as an adult, my opinion has remained the same.
Creating a movie for your album is one of the greatest things accomplished by man.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Season 1 was good but then it has been going steadily downhill
Season 1 was pretty great, true to the movies. The conflicts felt great and had an organic nature to them.
However, I could see it going downhill right at the last few episodes since the focus was to set up the next episodes so they needed to 'create' beef.
All the 'beef' that exists in seasons 2 and 3 felt forced and was only there for the purpose of creating drama. When circumstances are engineered to create drama, the writers have to be good at the writing to disguise that they're doing some hamfisted god hand plot armor type stuff but here it just falls flat.
Like they fight because that would be good not because it makes sense for them to fight, which is further evidenced when you look at how quickly the resolutions happen after the fights.
Also the fights feel super amateur later on (most of all in season 3). Its like they progressively got worse with the seasons which makes no sense since they have had much more time to practice. Maybe they got out of shape due to covid.
Season 3 was pretty stand out at how much worse it was than 1 and 2. It was like watching a badly done korean drama.
Upload (2020)
Shows promise that is squandered through the course of the show
The ideas are interesting and made even more satisfying by the fact that half of the futuristic tech in the show already exists in its infancy, so seeing it's potential explored is very enjoyable to watch.
However, it just devolves from an exploration of interesting ideas to this generic mess of romance and mystery crime drama that takes away from the examination of the more poignant things.
For a way to do this right, Greg Daniels should have just contacted his friend Micheal Shur who has made a show pretty much based on the same premise but successfully examined something deeper.
I felt that in order to distinguish this show from The Good Place, it avoided tackling similar themes but considering the premise, it just does disservice to the show by basing it on baser desires.
It promises something greater what it delivers is less than mediocre.
Rather than a bad show, it is a dissapointment.
Stargirl (2020)
rooting for the villains on this one
The main character is ridiculously unlikable
she is more stupid and less mature than the "average" teenager
like she is really really stupid
i know that she is supposed to be a teenager, and teenagers are "supposed" to be like that, but she is also supposed to be a "superhero"
like she has no sense of responsibility at all, how can such a person dispense "justice"
is this a commentary on the stupidity of superheroes? like kick-ass was?
the villains are portrayed as much more mature and responsible, i really hope they win this time
Only the Lonely (1991)
weid and creepy
A validation of borderline personality disorder
those people need medication and therapy instead what this movie portrays about the main characters mother
there is no happily ever after in this movie's premise, but a sopranos like misery and despair is what awaits the couple
Prodigal Son (2019)
Passable time pass
It's alright if you don't think too much about it. Michael Sheen is almost better than the rest of the cast put together. While the cast are doing their below average police procedural thing that you see in 99% of the cop shows, Michael Sheen blows it out of the park even with the mediocre script, and truly elevates the show.
Also somehow I really dislike the lead. He just comes off as a poser, and really follows the tell don't show style of acting, where he just says oh I have all these mental issues over and over, and then a few over the top displays of said issues, while he just walking around reacting perfectly fine to 99.99% of the show. Its sadly a combination of a badly written and badly acted character.
In spite of all its flaws, it's still sort of entertaining.
Cake (2019)
Like old school adult swim
Reminded me of adult swim from the 2000s, random trippy stuff, best to watch under the influence of mind altering substances. It's great that such psyechedelic content is still being made. I had a blast watching it.
The ones rating it badly don't get that it's sort of like a sketch show, not supposed to make sense as a whole.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
This is not a sci-fi, this is worse than arrowverse level soapy drama
There is no sense of awe and wonder or the complexities of a sci-fi. Its just a bunch of unappealing characters, boring dialogue, a slow and predictable story and the whole show (as of ep 7 out of 10 episodes) is leaning on a gimmick about some terrible unknown leading the ones in the know to commit terrible atrocities justifiable by this "unknown". Everything apparently hangs in the balance and everything is due to this "unknown" and it is terrible, I've been told repeatedly by the characters over and over again stressing that whatever they decide to do for "plot" is justifiable because of this "unknown".
You see how annoying it is already to read this, imagine watching 7 hours of this nonsense. I guarantee that the end reveal is going to be something completely stupid and anti-climactic, since all the characters so far have no depth or nuance.
What a waste since the production is actually good, leading me to believe that the creators had enough resources at their disposal to actually make something good, but they squandered it.
As another reviewer mentioned, The Orville is far better, although more light-hearted, in much more of the same spirit as Star Trek. There is a more relaxed pace, but there is the same sense of wonder and awe of the unknown that is the hallmark of Star Trek.
