New Town Killers (2008)
Interesting but not brilliant
This film has definitely made it its aim to philosophise about the value of life and money in our modern society while showing as many chasing scenes as possible.
I saw it 2 days ago and I'm still not sure whether it succeeded in either. Reflecting on it I realised that it actually developed the main question of what people will do for money in almost all the main characters but without any real revelations or novel answers.
References to Crime and Punishment seem to be a bit too much of a claim to real depth.
Overall I'd say, go and see it if you like Edinburgh or if you want to kill some time. As long as you don't expect a masterpiece you might enjoy it.
Closer (2004)
one of the worst film I've ever seen
I just didn't think one single character plausible. It's just about stupid obsessions about strangers and I couldn't see the chemistry between the characters.
My boyfriend said he would have given it a 2 because he likes moaning and it gave him something to moan about and he could see Natalie Portman in a thong.
I'll break up with him now for the latter! Just pretentious unrealistic twaddle.
I need to write more because of the guidelines but there's actually nothing else to say about that film. Natalie Portman's haircut in the beginning is awful and I don't get why she must have a different haircut after every single time jump while all the other characters stay pretty much the same outwardly.
You'll probably just think me thick and that I simply didn't get it. I guess that's your prerogative.
