Ninja Terminator (1986)
Dub
This is one of the funniest films I have ever seen. The whole idea that the actors are intending to release a drama/thriller to the kung-fu loving West. I think if it had been released as a comedy it would never have been as funny.
For people that keep saying 'I wish I hadn't seen the dub' there is no movie that isn't the dub. Ho bought bits and pieces of unreleased and uncompleted Asian films, from Chinese, Japanese to Korean and mixed them together, with new shots of Western actors. There is no film other than the dub, besides the poor dubbing adds most of the humour, its one of the funniest aspects... why ruin it.
Doragon Bôru Zetto Ora no Gohan o Kaese!! (1989)
Review for Dead Zone
This movie didn't do so well with me. It had it's moments. Such as the weapon fighting between Goku, Nicky and Ginger but the plot was all to familiar ie: Vegeta. Points of the movie seemed odd also. Such as Kami saying Piccolo had been killed by Goku, yet Kami showed barley any signs of dying himself. Also being so mentally connected he would never make the mistake of thinking Piccolo was dead when by all means he wasn't. Also Garlic Jr. informing his crew that he intended to keep Gohan as a disciple seemed lamely put, as he showed no signs of even bothering to entertain the boy. There was barley any background to the movie, it was just start to finish.
I did like Goku's new persona though, rather cocky. It was a nice change. As for original characters I didn't find anything interesting (except that Nicky and Ginger pulled swords from their limbs!) They were all stupid and with very annoying voices. Give the bad guys voices that suit for once! Also why would three strong warriors (Sancho, Nicky and Ginger)follow the leadership of Garlic Jr, he wasn't smart, strong, or even witty! It just seemed to me that the characters in this film (all characters) were running around like headless chickens. Yet it was the 1st dbz film so obviously this was a training ground for all the rest.
Doragon boru Z: konoyo de ichiban tsuyoi yatsu (1990)
Review of World's strongest
I don't know how this movie fared on the market yet I liked it. The movie unlike others, (others meaning ones translated by FunImation) kept the original musical score. BIG +. Though dialogue at times was a little naff (writer Christopher Neel), I was simply too hooked into the fight scenes to notice. Goku vs Piccolo, as evil as he was, had to take the cake. Especially when Piccolo smacked Gohan round. You got to see everyone fight, even Master Roshi which was pretty cool. I really liked the detail in this movie. Being set in the mountains, steam was drawn wafting from the characters mouths at points. A nice touch.
The plot was decent enough. Dr. Wheelo even got a little history thrown in. His three elite fighters if I recall had next to no lines, so they kept a real evil air about them when fighting. As for bad points. The voice chosen for Dr. Wheelo was somewhat annoying and he tended to have rather bad lines. He could have been made much more evil than what he was. Many a time lines were just the problem, if only he had said that instead of *sneer* .... that. It was also some what uninventive that Goku finished with the spirit bomb attack. If all else fails I guess. But overall I did like this film, it is the better of the few I have seen.

Dragon Ball Z: Chikyû Marugoto Chôkessen (1990)
Review for Tree of Might
This film was actually rather entertaining. It was noted as the first scene opened that Ocean group had inputted their own musical score (series music). Which made me dislike the movie in an instant. Yet even though the film did have some extremely corny lines (writer Christopher Neel) and music this side of poor, I still liked it. My brother (19yrs) loves this film. He said it is because you get to see the crew sorta just... hanging out. Mostly referring to the 'coffee at the Sons' scene. Though this film did have points such as that and Goku bathing which was a plus. It had a definite pothole. This was when Turles destroyed the fake moon so he himself would not transform, after Gohan did. Basically that was totally unjustified. Because it is well known that when an Oozuru's light source is extinguished they revert back to their natural Saiya-jin form.
Now this wasn't a mix up in translation which would be okay but an out right what-in-the-hell flaw. The fight scenes were very well done, and Turles would have been perfect but for his voice. It bugged the heck outta me. All scratchy and so forth. I liked how the movie ended though, sure Goku's spirit bomb (genki dama) was a predictable move yet having to form another one in the way he did was a surprise. A very cool animation sequence there. Speaking of animation it was noted to be rather good in this film, compared to the other two previous flicks. I am not sure why, I think because it was set outside, beneath a clouded sky that the characters were often well shaded. It's a worthwhile watch, especially if you're a fan, if you're not... what the hell are you reading this for!
Dragon Ball Z (1996)
DBZ Anime Overview
I am going to be terribly one eyed! ^^ no, I will try not to be, but it will be hard. It's pretty obvious that Akira Toriyama was inspired by Superman. For Goku's origin is similar to Superman's. Both Goku and Superman were sent away from a far off planet (which soon explodes) to earth. Both are found by strangers, who take them as their own and raise them into caring, responsible youths. Both also have amazing abilities. I Love the story line, yet if a non-DBZ watcher was to read the summary, it sounds almost lame. But I cannot explain what it is about DBZ? Within the story, you get to know the characters quite intimately. They change there hair, grow older, marry, have kids. The story though it is good verses evil, like almost everything else, is very one on one, there is a lot of personal thought processes going on.
You expect to hear for example; what Gohan is thinking while his Dad is being pummelled by Cell. I do not think I have come across an anime yet that allows this so readily. What I love about the internal thoughts of the DBZ characters is that their expressions change, with them. Like say when Vegeta is on Namek-sei and Krillian say's "Mondo cool!" referring to the isolation chamber, Vegeta just looks off in thought- with this sentence running through his head- "That's right boys, mondo cool... but get a good look at it now. Cause once I am through with Frezia there will be no need to resuscitate any of you three" the words were then followed by a delayed evil smirk. The drama is worth noting, as it's quite well done in the Japanese version, yet FunImation have played it down in recent episodes, nearer the Buu saga and even a few times before drama came through. Yet not as acutely as I would have liked.
I hear a lot of complaints about the FunImation dialogue but honestly I think the dialogue is okay. Sure, it was abysmal during Season 3. Every cliché known to man was used. There didn't seem to be one coherent line. Yet once 'another dimension' was dropped things began to pick up... very slowly. As little bit of drama and sadness from the original version began to seep through. Yet those words aside, I am happy to say that FunImation has done a wonderful job on the Buu Saga. A vast improvement. However here is another flaw, parts of the dub made blatant plot changes. While the Ocean Group version preserved the original plot for the most part, key scenes in the Freeza saga were changed. It's something to be aware of. Writers- Terry Klassen, Ward Perry, John Burgmeier, Christopher Neol.
DBZ to me is the most unique animation I ever seen; you ALWAYS know when you are watching it. You could have the sound off and just be granted the shot of a field and you would know. From weird side long shots through the eyes of the character or a bugs perspective. DBZ animators always keep you guessing. The colours are fairly notable to. Very bright and simple. It all comes with the year of production of course, yet even so no anime compares! Damn I just can't say anything bad. I even like the darn brush line shading! To sum up, I know that dbz animation is not the latest out there or the most realistic but it is original and originality to me, rates way above anything else. Also, DBZ has some of the greatest, most insanely well-choreographed fights ever throughout its run. Of course most were edited. The backgrounds are passable, giving us a futuristic world, but they aren't exactly mind-blowing either and even poor at times. Then there's the character designs. Akira Toriyama did character designs for both the Manga and the anime, giving everyone a distinct and original look that you won't find anywhere else. Animation - Bird studio/shueisha Toie P.S - Vegeta is what makes this show what it is.
