The Other One (2014)
Bereaved widow deals with a mystery while caring for her demented mother.
This film, which is very relevant to today's schools' frightening reality of shootings and too-frequent headlines which are tragically no longer shocking or infrequent, has an eerie feel to it with sub-plots that intertwine with the main theme. The dramatic change that one such event made in our heroine's life could happen to anyone, anytime. The music, written and performed by Corbett Lunsford sets the stage beautifully and is woven very smartly into the film. Grace McPhillips who wore many hats in the making of this file, including lead actress, as well as the other actors in the film did a wonderful job, very convincing and painfully real. Kudos to all involved!
App (2014)
Adorable computer genius writes an App designed to help find love.
This short film, excellently written, filmed, produced, directed and acted, is a jewel in the short film world, and deserves a chance to be made into a feature film. Of particular note is the writing which includes witty and smart humor, and never condescends to the audience. The film succeeds without the typical gratuitous sex or violence, and is appropriate for anyone who is at all "App" savvy in today's world. The film is very well acted, especially with Braden Lynch as the male lead: an adorable computer genius who willingly admits to learning Tango because "Mom needed a partner". He looks the part and his earnest persona is a perfect fit for the dialog and interaction with the other characters. This, in direct contradiction to his playing a Russian henchman in "NCIS LA" and a psychopathic killer in "Criminal Minds." The other main actors, Sara Sanderson and JR Cacia, were both perfect as well, once you've seen them in the parts you can't imagine anyone else. Congratulations to everyone involved!
