Sorstalanság (2005)
A movie that will invoke every emotion known to man. Not just another Holocaust movie.
Because this movie is primarily in Hungarian and Yiddish; subtitles were definitely necessary. It's a movie that should be watched by people of all ages, but parental supervision is a must. The story follows the life of 14 year old orthodox Jewish boy György, (played by a very talented young actor by the name of Marcell Nagy) during the occupation of Hungary and through his subsequent interment in a forced labor camp. Walk with him and his those fellow inmates as they do anything and everything to survive. You be horrified to see how they suffered daily beatings, torture and starvation just to do it all again. Day after day after day. I cried, cheered, cursed and prayed long after watching this. A true piece of Art. Watch this movie and please tell others to watch as well. REMEMBER the Holocaust and the 13 million victims (6 million Jews) who died at the hands of the Nazi's and their sympathizers so it never happens again. I give this 9 Stars.
Bienenstich ist aus (2009)
Touching performance.
This short film was presented to me for review and I found it heartwarming, but shallow at the same time. It should be noted that "Bienenstich" (Bee Sting in English) is a German Pastry. Thilo Berndt plays a young boy with an extreme social anxiety disorder that prevents him from speaking to anyone but his grandmother played by Renate Fuhrmann. No explanation as to why he lives with her, the whereabouts of his parents and above all, why this disorder only effects his speech. His shyness doesn't prevent him from otherwise functioning normally around others. The acting is poor, the storyline is incomplete unfulfilled. Thilo Berndt is talented. You'll have to suffer the entire 15 minutes to find why this boy was chosen for the part. I want to see him develop his acting ability. I give this short film 6 stars.
A Silent Truth (2012)
Great Coming-of-age story!
I was very impressed by Daniel Sovich and his portrayal of 14 year old boy who secretly knows he's different, but fears rejection by both family and friends. I appreciate Peter Anthony Fields attempt at exposing societies shortcomings and believe this, and films like it will not only help these young boys and girls understand themselves, but help others. Reaction by family and peers are true and to the point. The main message I take back from this is "Honesty and Acceptance". I was distracted by the poor production quality and the obvious Low Budget devoted to this project. The lack of experience by cast members was obvious, however, a story like this needs to be told and I don't see the major writers, directors or producers stepping up to the plate. Maybe if they did, it wouldn't be so hard to find this type of film. Great Job! I recommend this movie to all.
