Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005)
moral of the story - Uncle Pandey did not like steak
It had everything going for it ...except for substance. the movie based on 1857 should stir you , should bring out a feeling of patriotism instead you don't give a damn about whats happening...the way the country is shown in 1857 it looked like quite a merry place ...people drinking , dancing , having hookahs etc...there is no oppression shown, nothing to suggest that it was really a mutiny.Poor amir great performance and characterisation. Amisha should stick to playing the irritating Barbie doll.the songs are so out of place that they bore u to death... funniest scene of the movie is sati swinging and dancing to the holi song with the villagers ...what happened to so called threat to her life. Its high time that the directors stop taking the Indian public for granted. Actually what really stirs u in the end is the actual black and white images from our freedom struggle.
Sarkar (2005)
great indianisation of godfather!!!
i saw the movie last nite and i must say i was impressed. great performances specially from kay kay and amitabh. the supporting cast is just perfect. thankfully no songs and just over two hours , it makes for a great viewing. hats off to ram gopal verma to design a movie with minimum dialogues and allowing the star cast to express themselves thru pure expressions and silence. Its thanks to movies like these you tend to feel there is a bright future for Hindi cinema.i have always liked godfather and was very apprehensive when i heard sarkar was inspired by it , but ram gopal verma has done full justice to his inspiration and thankfully he has acknowledged his inspiration right at the beginning of the movie( which 99% of our film makers need to learn). go watch it...
