Two and a Half Men (2003)
Entertaining show, but a lot of repetition
First of all, it wonders me that they actually made 12 seasons. I mean at the beginning there were interesting characters and things happening to them. And most of the jokes were super funny and I laughed out loud. But later on, even before Sheen was out of the picture, it actually started to show that they rarely came up with new ideas or jokes.
I think I liked the first four seasons the best, S5 and S6 were sort of okay, from S7 and S8 I watched only few episodes. I did like S9 and some parts of S10 and fewer of S11.
But the last season was terrible.
At this point the same jokes were just lazy writing.
Actually I felt there were four jokes they milked way too much:
*Alan not paying anything and living in the house rent free.
*Alan's son being incredibly stupid.
*Alan never leaving the house.
*Smoking pot.
And I feel like they completely lost interest in Walden's character and made him lost the some sort of personality he had in S9. And while it kind of made sense that they needed a new "half man" to the house, it was very boring that most of the season 12 was just about that kid. Or at least it felt like that to me.
Also the characters didn't even develop that much. Alan was the same freeloader as he was in the beginning and never really showed growth or taking responsibilities. Charlie's character also was very true to his habits, but still managed to carry the show. Walden did some improvement, but I think they could have made that character a lot better.
The show was entertaining and gave some good laughs, but 12 seasons was way too much of Alan taking advantage of everybody around him.
Lost (2004)
Great characters, interesting journey, but a little confusing at times
Sci-fi show about characters who are lost in their lives and then get lost on an island. In the end they find their purpouse and peace.
I've watched the series maybe four times, and I think that now I'm starting to understand it more. Of course it is easier to spot some clues earlier and understand what the characters are like even deep inside. But now as a whole, it seems to make more sense and it doesn't feel so much all over the place (which it of course is, but it is understandable).
The first two seasons are great: a lot of things happening, people searching themselves and ways to survive. Finding and losing love, friends and faith.
You start to love the characters and hope they will get rescued.
The first half of the third season was good, then is started to feel very slow, but the last episode was great again. Fourth season was something in between, but fifth season was boring and pointless. Sixth had its ups and downs, but towards the end it got better, almost great.
I didn't like and still don't understand the whole temple-part of the show. It somehow doesn't seem to fit or make sense. Also the constant time jumping got confusing at times.
But the show is about the characters and their journey. Everyone has a personality and motives, and everyone wants something. They are likeable even with their flaws and wrong choices. Every "bigger" character we lost, broke my heart a little.
The show has its slow points and some things still don't make sense and there are too many (in my opinion) unanswered questions. Maybe they should've ended the show after four seasons (as I believe the writers originally wanted), that would've made the series' pace better and then there would've been less side plots that weren't really necessary.
I still think the last episode was great. Not that confusing as it was the first time I saw it.
Overall a good show with great characters. Hard to say who I loved the most: Sayid, Hugo, Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Desmond or Locke. Or Ben.
I guess I will rewatch this at some point again, when I feel like it is time to be lost again.
The Knight Before Christmas (2019)
Everything you want in a Chritmas movie, but still it doesn't work
It's cute, cheesy and a feel good movie. Most likely suitable for young kids. Why not for adults too, if you are looking for something easy and light and just want to relax.
But for me the acting was so clumsy (well, Vanessa was kind of okay) and dialogue was written so badly that I just couldn't enjoy it. The knight wasn't natural at all and and didn't have any charm even though he tried so hard to be cute and charming. And the main couple had so little chemistry that it felt forced.
Even when there is everything you want in a Christmas movie, is still lacks that magical and fairy tale like feeling. There is magic in the plot, but the viewer doesn't feel it and the movie is overall flat and boring. It didn't make you feel anything, it just passed by.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Actors are good, but the movie is boring
I have tried to watch it few times before, but now I finally watched the whole film. And I still find it boring and the plot developed very slowly. You almost fell asleep while waiting for the next scene. The fight scenes were cut too long, and at some points it felt like that when the main characters weren't fighting, they were mostly walking. And walking wasn't made interesting in this case.
The actors do a nice job and the CGIs are very well done, and at some points it has a very magical feel to it. But it has no excitement or charisma (the actors do, but the film doesn't). Visually it is perfect, but the overall story isn't that catchy and the movie feels loooooong.
I know I should like this film, because it is a classic. But I can't.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
This is a bad remake of the classic
I'm a fan of Robin Williams and I really liked his Jumanji. Even with all the clumsiness and bad CGIs. I have watched it many times, when I was a kid and just rewatched it before watching this. It still is fun and adorable.
And to sum it up: this movie destroys all the magic the original had.
I liked that they modernized it: changing the platform for the game and having some digital things with them on the game.
And Jack Black is hilarious and is the only interesting thing in this version.
But the rest is not worth it.
The acting is mostly very stiff and unrealistic, and the characters start to annoy very fast, and not in a good way. And I can't figure out if The Rock is just bad actor or what is his business.
The movie is supposed to be stupid and funny, but I think it is just stupid.
I did like Jack playing a girl, but I felt that they only had like four jokes for him and he had to repeat them over and over again. And the rest of the jokes didn't hit me at all, and I do like comedies.
When they are in the game, if feels like forever and lacks tension. Of course the previous Jumanji has its problems too, but it still is cute and funny. This is just bad remake with okay-ish CGIs. I did like the ending, but the actors could've brought something more to it.
This wasn't total waste of time, but wouldn't watch this again nor would recommend to anybody.
The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
Very well done, but not for me
Pet movies are cute, and so is this. This has many funny moments of what pets might do or think when humans are away, but that's it. The idea is original and I waited more, but it is far from classics like Oliver and company or Aristocats or other animated animal movies. Kind of fell flat after the mid-point and I soon lost interest, but did watch it till the end.
Maybe works better for younger people, and that is just fine. It is very well done and the dogs are cute, but for me it has no spark so I would watch it again.
Leap Year (2010)
Nicely done feel-good-movie
Okay, this is not the most artistic movie or whatever, but in its genre it is very good. It is light and it is funny. The main actors work very well together and this is a nice feel-good movie. One of the best romcoms I have seen in a while. It is corny, yes, and it is predictable, yes, but in movies like this it doesn't matter when everything else works. And love the locations they were.
Loved it and would watch again.
Mortdecai (2015)
Bland movie that is easily forgotten
What happened to Johnny Depp? I like that he is versatile and he has the most interesting, crazy, deep and/or funny characters, but even for Johnny this is just off.
I really tried to watch the whole movie, but I just couldn't. Very boring, did almost fell asleep. And it felt like Gwyneth and Johnny had zero chemistry and wondered why they are in the same movie. Awful concept and I don't even remember anymore what was the plot like.
Pitch Perfect 3 (2017)
So this was a parody movie, right?
My guilty pleasure is movies like this. Light, funny, stupid...
But even for me this was way too over the top and all over the place.
The sub plot didn't make any sense, so it felt like it was just thrown in randomly. Or actually it felt like the Becca-storyline was the sub plot and Amy the main thing.
In earlier movies Becca was more the star, but now this more like Amy's movie. Kind a weird decision in my opinion.
If you don't know how to make a "mysterious spy" movie twist, then just don't. Even the musical numbers were kind of lame and had lost their spark.
Also how each of the characters' stories were closed had so many clichés that I started to wonder if this movie was supposed to be parody.
Probably not, but it certainly felt like it. Boring, jokes were lame, characters felt tired... Can't recommend.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Better than The Silence
I watched first The Silence and this later, and had to check which one was done first, because the ideas are identical and even the monsters had similarities.
And at least in this movie the deaf girl was actually deaf. I am too lazy to Google now, but I'm wondering if these movies were meant to be similar or was it just a coincidence.
I liked the idea on both of these movies, but A Quiet Place does it better. It has more logic and the characters are more interesting than in The Silence. And in this one the characters are actually trying to avoid making any noises. Of course this movie has it's flaws and there are moments, when you know what is going to happen, what it still had surprises and was entertaining.
The I-Land (2019)
Good idea, poorly executed
I have now watched 4 and half episodes and I am really struggling on watching the rest.
The first episode was actually, in my opinion, the most interesting, despite the bad acting and dialogues/characters that didn't have much depth. Also the second ep. brought some interesting elements to the plot, but after that it kind of went downhill.
It is not a copy of Lost, but I must admit that it has a lot of same elements, and actually I felt like they tried to merge 3 seasons of Lost to those first episodes.
Also the characters seem to be too all over the place, but yet very bland and the way they talk to each other is at some points so awkward that it was painful to watch.
It sort of felt like the writers wrote the plot too complex for the producers to execute it, and some of the actors had no idea what to do in the middle of it.
The Silence (2019)
It didn't make much (if any) sense
I thought the idea sounded great: be quiet and survive. But great idea alone doesn't make a great movie. The plot raised too many unanswered questions and makes you wonder what the writers were thinking, because the story has just too many WTF-moments.
First of all it seemed odd that the family decided to leave home, where they had food and all the other stuff, so they could survive better. And they didn't even seem to have a clear plan why leave the house and what to do next. Why not wait for the army/police/whoever to give more instructions?
The creatures weren't scary and it seemed it wasn't that hard to kill them, because they were small, blind and attracted to sound. And even the dad was able to kill few of them without any training, so why didn't the army etc step in?
The most weird thing was definitely this not-so-creepy cult leader and his herd. It wasn't explained why the cult was formed and what was their point? And how could they save the others, if they joined them? Why they were so special? And why, oh why they said the girl is fertile? Because it had nothing to do with the bigger image. Nothing.
Then the mother got bitten, and of course every infection is cured, if only they can find antibiotics. And even when they are in a strange town, they just somehow knew that you can enter the pharmacy from the back door, if the front door is shut. How did they know?
And the ending was just... Again, made no sense how it happened and how the family got to that point from the small village.
The Spirit of Christmas (2015)
Something new (with something already seen)
This movie was surprisingly good and the storyline actually was quite nicely written. Plus the ghost guy(Thomas Beaudoin) was SUPER handsome. ;) For him I'd watch this again, so I could just drool over him. ;)
When the movie started I didn't expect much, but as it went on I was happy I started watching this. Of course it is cheesy and predictable, but it is very enjoyable at the same time. The main characters had nice chemistry and did their job good enough. Maybe with some more money on the budget and some more time creating more personality for the characters, this could have been sort of hit-ish movie.
I have watched many Christmas movies in a short period of time, and this was the first that actually made me tear up a little bit in the end. So overall was quite nice movie.
Christmas with a View (2018)
First 20 minutes were enough
One of the worst movies I have seen (well, based on the first 20 minutes) and I couldn't even watch it through. Everything was wrong. Starting from the actors who were terrible and had no clue how to act. The storyline seemed just so off that it makes you think if the writers were drunk or what. I don't know why this movie was made and I highly doubt it got any better towards the end.
A Christmas Prince (2017)
Entertaining movie, but offers nothing new
A reporter goes undercover to the royal castle and meets the prince, and you know what happens then. ;)
This, too, has most of the Christmas/Royal movie cliches, but for some reason it still manages to be entertaining and not a snooze fest. It is nothing compared to Princess diaries, but it is not the worst princess/prince movie I have seen.
I know these type of movies aren't supposed to be realistic. But for some reason it really bothered me how easily the reporter got in to the palace. It was just too easy. Like seriously the lack of security was just...no, and the way the people in the castle "knew" that she was the new teacher was just sooo off. No ID's asked, no nothing.
And the other thing was that how easily the reporter and princess Emily start to get along all of the sudden is just so annoying and comes really out of the blue, like bam, now we are best friends. Ugh.
The movie has its problems (and there are many), and at some points I thought I stop watching it, but I really like Rose McIver, so for her, I watched this. She is cute and a good (not great) actress, and I liked her at iZombie. She did good job in here too and I think i will watch the sequel, when it comes to Netflix.
The Holiday Calendar (2018)
An okay Christmas movie
This was an okay Christmas movie. I am not a big fan of Christmas, but my guilty pleasure is (stupid) Christmas movies.
The plot seemed quite interesting and it actually started off nicely. Of course you knew right away how the story was going to end, but the special calendar brought a different touch to things. But in my opinion they should have put more effort in the calendar thing, because it felt like after few days it just didn't matter that much. I understand that you can't make this type of movie too long, but somehow it felt like they were rushing things. And because of that it lost its magic.
And the acting was at some points very awkward. They all looked very nice, but the acting was still very flat. At some points it felt like some of the characters just didn't belong to the movie or were just clueless.
In a way this was a cute movie, but had too many flaws, bad acting and cliches to be actually good or recommendable. You can watch it, but don't expect anything much.
Snowden (2016)
Interesting movie, and very well made
Snowden's story is interesting and he made a huge sacrifice in order to get people know what was really going on. So that's why I wanted to see what kind of movie they had made about him.
And I liked the movie.
The acting was good and the actor portrayed Snowden very well, and to me the overall feeling was realistic enough. I almost felt like I was a fly, who was able to follow the real thing while it went on. Even when I knew how the story goes, I still felt nervous, when it seemed at some points that Snowden might get caught.
I think the plot went on very smoothly and this movie didn't feel like it was over 2 hours long. It captured your attention in the first five minutes and then you just couldn't take a break.
It is not the best movie ever, but it doesn't have to be, because it tells a very important story and it tells it very well, and what is the great thing about this movie, is that it shows Snowden in a positive light (as it should be).
The Late Bloomer (2016)
Yet another movie that is trying to be funny
I was looking for an entertaining movie, which would be fun to watch on a Friday night. I have no idea why I chose this one, but I did.
But I didn't watch it to the end. Maybe the first hour and even that was too much.
The plot seemed okay, but the acting was bad. Not the worst though. The actors had no chemistry, the guy acting the leading role had no charisma and he was actually very annoying and stupid, in a wrong way.
I have no idea why this movie was made, because it is hard to imagine who could like movie this bad. This movie wasn't funny, entertaining or anything actually, so it is hard to say what would be situation you would want to watch this.
So maybe just don't.
Baywatch (2017)
Don't watch this, just DON'T. The worst movie of 2017, I believe.
I really don't know where to start.
I liked the original TV show, even with its flaws and some corny dialogs, and now I like it because it brings back memories from the 90s. I believe they never did a movie with the original cast, and that's fine. And they should have not done this movie either.
The plot is stupid, very simple and predictable. Anyone could have written a better story.
The acting is so bad that it is painful to watch.
The characters have no personality, none at all.
The jokes have been heard so many times before and they are just clumsy and not funny. It's like a bad Seth Rogen movie.
And the filming and cutting is very bad/annoying. It seems like it is supposed to be very artistic, but in my opinion it failed horribly.
This isn't even one of those movies that are so bad that they are good. This is just a terrible movie and it seems they only made this to show how much muscles the Rock has.
22 July (2018)
Horrifying, but interesting movie
I think the movie was well made about these horrifying events in Norway. The movie managed to show us the terror, fear and hope. And it really is a movie that makes you really think about what kind of people are there.
The actor who played Breivik did a very good job portraying someone who thinks he has done nothing wrong. He was one of the best actors in this movie.
The only issue I had was that the Norwegians were speaking English. The actors did speak it well, but it sounded wrong that people, who are native citizens "decided" to speak English. I would have preferred either all English or all Norwegian, but this mixture just didn't sound good, when they were still pronouncing every Norwegian word perfectly. Or maybe only the news or the trial could have been in English, but everything else in Norwegian.
It sort of feels wrong to say about this kind of movie that I liked it. It tells the story well, not going over the top or under. Not the best movie ever, but definitely worth watching, and something that really touches your heart.
Inception (2010)
A journey in a dream world
Inception is on Netflix, so I finally got the chance to watch it.
The basic idea is very interesting: you can go into people's dreams and do some damage in there. And of course this time the case is going to be "the biggest and most demanding ever".
I think the story is well written and characters are believable, and DiCaprio does outstanding job here. And the special effects are just great and visually very nice, and in this kind of movie there can't be too much. I would like to go to that kind of dream world they created here.
But there were few things that bothered me. At some points the plot was kind of messy/all over the place, so I wasn't able to follow some details of it. Maybe it was that, that there were too many things to explain to the audience and not enough time/effort to do it properly.
And I thought that the reason why the wanted to mess the CEO's, Robert Fischer's, mind wasn't very surprising. I believe they could have thought something that was new and had more story behind it.
But those few things aside, I really liked this movie and will watch it again.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
My, my, how can I resist you... and one of us is crying.
I loved the first one and I've watched it 20 times (I think). So I was sure that I would like this one, because I was counting on the cast and writers, and the magic ABBA's music has.
Mamma Mia 2 is fun, upbeat and feel good movie. BUT there is also some sadness in it, which made the movie even better. I think the writers did a great job on this one: it is a sequel, but still works on its own. There are references to the first one, and you laugh more, if you know them. But if you don't, that's all right too.
It is cheesy, yes, but it is what Mamma mia is about: escaping from the real world with a smile and a song. (And few tears in this case.)
It is great that all the old actors are back, but I also liked very much the new ones. They do a great job, and Pierce Brosnan is always so charmy.
There were also some interesting ways to film the scenes, specially liked One of us -scene. Very well made!
Meryl Streep could have had more screen time, but when you think about the whole story, this is perfect as it is. And the fact that she hadn't screen time as much as others, made me cry so hard at certain point of the movie. It just shows how timeless and beautiful these songs are still in 2018.
When the first Mamma mia was more about fun and crazyness, the second one brings more feelings to the table. I highyl recommend this movie, if you like the first one. But just one tip: have a box of tissues with you, because you are going to need them.

Friends (1994)
Best comedy show ever made
It's hard to say, what not to love about this show. Everything in on point, and every season is different and interesting. The characters are equal and they all have their own stories. I love the chemistry between the six main characters and I think that is why the show kept its charm all ten seasons. And I love the fact that the characters grow up during the show, but they still stay true to themselves of what they are.
I watch the series at least once a year and I still laugh at the jokes. Sometimes I laugh before the joke comes, because I know what is coming next. At some point I thought that my favorites were Ross and Rachel, but actually they all are. I can't imagine the show without any of these. I remember reading somewhere that Chandler and Phoebe were supposed to be on the side, but I am so glad that they were as equal as the rest. The perfect combination of different characters.
I have watched Friends almost 20 years now and I know I am going to keep watching it till the end. Friends just lifts your mood, if you are down and they are like your own friends you know well.
Pitch Perfect (2012)
It's entertaining, but not worth watching again
I watched Red Sparrow in theaters earlier in the same day and when it was a disappointment, I had to watch another movie, when I was back home. Pitch Perfect was on TV and I have thought about watching this.
I think the movie was okay. It's not a Chicago, but it was sort of entertaining as long as it lasted. Of course in these kind of movies you always know, how the plot goes, but this time it didn't bother me that much. Maybe after Red Sparrow I was up for anything else. I just wanted something entertaining and light. The acting was pretty bad at some points, but I wonder, if they wanted it to be that corny on purpose.
I do like musicals and I thought the music was well done, and the harmonies were on point. And when they were on stage, I really enjoyed those parts.
The throwing up -joke was stupid and they should've not put that kind of joke here. It was joke that you see on those stupid parody movies like Scary movie and American Pies, but not in a musical. It was like a six-year-old had said what would be a funny joke.
I actually really wanted this to be a good musical, but it wasn't original enough. Why do the high school and college movies always have so stereotypical characters? Always the bitches, nerds, etc... Maybe someday someone will actually come up with something original.
Summary: it was okay and entertaining, but very predictable and lacked in originality what comes to teen movies and teen musicals.
Red Sparrow (2018)
All four stars to Jeremy Irons, none to the movie itself
I haven't read the book and I didn't read the plot summary before the movie, so I didn't know what to expect, so I was very open minded to this movie.
I usually know after 20 minutes, if the movie is worth watching or not. And in this case I had a bad feeling that this movie is not getting better towards the end. And sadly I was right.
I get that this is an American movie, but still it bothered me that when most of the people were Russians and location was in Russia, nobody actually spoke the language. Instead everyone had their own version of Russian accent, and in most cases is was terrible. When Dominika (the main character) spoke English with her old mother, it was too unreal. If a person that old as her mother was, was a Russian, she wouldn't speak a word English. I know it's a movie, not a real life, but I would have wanted some sort of explanation why everyone was speaking English. Any explanation.
The second thing that bothered me, was the terrible way they had cut the scenes. It was like some trainee was there to do the job. I can't find a word for it, but it was like let's take a short scene from there, let's put it here and let's not think about what we are doing. And repeat.
Well, the only interesting and good thing about this movie was Jeremy Irons, but even he couldn't save this one. Jennifer Lawrence started strong, but then she had the same expression on her face all the time, and it started to annoy me. She really didn't give the hard and cold spy's vibe at all. Mainly she seemed very bored and tried to be a serious actress.
And the plot itself was kind of predictable. I have read a lot of thrillers and detective books, and I have watched a lot of movies that include these everybody fools everybody -type of things. And all I can say, that Red Sparrow was predictable (okay, there were few surprises along the way) and specially the ending was the way it seems to happen in most of this kind of movies. Well, not exactly, but the main idea.
It's not the worst this type of movie, but if I hadn't been in the movie theater with my friend, I would have left somewhere in the middle of the movie.
