Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
Amazingly brilliant.....Worth waiting the whole year for!!
OK...i know everyone's gonna start having hissy-fits about the rating I gave, But come on....Im a die-hard potter-fanatic and after a whole year of excruciatingly painful wait (I actually kept crossing days off the calender *gulp*) I was more than satisfied!! This movie beats every other summer movie that was released including the not-so-watchable Transformers sequel and a mildly funny Ice-Age 3(saving grace....of course scrat and scratte!!) :/ To start of with, the visuals are as usual mind-blowing and very well-placed...Unlike some movies (*cough* transformers *cough*), it doesn't over-kill with the CGI. The music composed by Nic Hooper stands out and the Weasley Twins theme just gets stuck in your head!! The direction is quite brilliant considering the time constraints in making a movie outta 600-page odd-book, however its been nothing short of spectacular! The key points are well-set-up and unlike some comments i've read (*cough* guy from MN, USA *cough*), I totally rebuke them!! The stellar cast is nothing short of spectacular...and Tom Felton as the "timid boy made to stand-in as a brave one" steals the show. His expressions and words reek with the inner turmoil and anguish, Im hoping for his BAFTA nomination for outstanding performance in comparison to stalwarts like Jim broadbent, Alan Rickman and well...Michael Gambon (*cough*).
Another special mention must go to Mr. Alan Rickman, who always manages to steal the show right under everyones nose!! I cant imagine Severus Snape as someone else ever....kinda like imagining Rocky without Sly!! The other kids like Danny, Rupert and Emma give their very best, unfortunately are over-shadowed by the rest of the cast. Bonnie wright has come into her own in terms of acting, yet she doesn't come across any better than a piece-of eye-candy! Lastly, The climax is very moving and although its very difficult for a guy like me to admit, yes, my eyes welled with tears....and anybody who says they didn't feel a thing are lying or just hypocritical!! Once again, A must watch and now i cant await the next one!! Thank you David and J.K....you've made millions of people happy with just 2 hrs of narration!! I, on behalf of Indian Harry Potter Fan-Base....Salute you!!
The Ron Clark Story (2006)
Matthew Perrys FINEST performance Ever!!
What an incredible movie!!! I happened to catch it on HBO about a month back and i am still reeling under its influence!!I so much liked the movie..that i got it TV'od and watch it almost alternate days whenever i have time!! I never knew that Matthew Perry was SO capable of acting with finesse. He's brings the character of RON CLARK alive so much...that actually u start wishing for a teacher like him to teach you, well at least i did. The kids especially the kid who played TayShawn have performed brilliantly, but of course Matt Perry takes the cake. I'll be terribly disappointed if Matthew Doest get an Oscar nomination/ award for this, its his time to shine!! My only wish is to meet Sir perry and Sir Ron CLark himself before i die....God bless Matthew and Ron, hope they have great success in their RON CLARK ACADEMY, and if i ever come to USA, I'll make sure I see their academy in Atlanta. Well what r u guys waiting for, grab a DVD and watch it, there's LOTS to learn from it!!!
Salaam Namaste (2005)
Really Refreshing!
A really refreshing and superbly made movie for the young genre of audience. The plot revolves around Nikhil "Nick" Arora(Saif Ali Khan) and Amber(Priety Zinta).Nick is the Gen-X cool kinda dude who's a chef at a restaurant and Amber is a medical student funding her fees by working as a Radio-Jockey at the station named "Salaam Namaste".How they fall for each other and start living together is shown quite sensibly without the normal hum-bug and drama.Director Siddharth Anand has put in lot of efforts trying to capture the young mind-sets of Indians living abroad. So Nick and Amber start living together and start a relationship.Everything is fine until Nick and Amber find out that Amber's pregnant.nick wants it aborted and amber insists on keeping it.Fight and mayhem ensues and they break-up.They live under the same roof but avoid and sometimes trouble each other. Finally nick realizes what mistake he's making and woos amber back.Saif Ali Khan is awesome in the movie and proves once more that hes that damn good at acting as he's in his looks.Preity gives a powerful performance and looks ravishing in those small dresses and short hair.Arshad Warsi(Ron) as Nicks Geeky but lovable and cute guy,has performed brilliantly!Tania Zaetaa('Who dares wins' babe) us absolutely forgettable.Javed Jaffery has u in splits and proves hes a force to reckon with when it comes to comic timing!Overall an awesome experience and I do hope u all will catch it.Its a complete entertainer. The music is not that bad.A very enjoyable movie especially with your sweetheart in your arms.
Dus (2005)
Awesome Movie...Must Watch!
Finally a movie which will make BOLLYWOOD stand-out!Amazing performance, rocking music(Kudos to Director Vishal-Shekhar),Stunning Action sequences and a nice storyline....A perfect recipe for an out-and-out Smash-hit. The story is about the Anti-terrorist Cell from India who receives the info that an International Terrorist "Jhaamvaal" is planning a big attack on 10th May(hence "Dus").Sanjay Dutt(Siddhant Dheer) is the chief of the department of the ATC.Abhishek Bachchan(Shashank Dheer)is his lil bro and an expert sniper.Shipa SHetty(Aditi Kumar),ZAYED KHAN(Aditya Singh) and other form the Elite team.Suniel SHetty( Danesh "DAN") is a Canadian cop which helps out Abhishek and Zayed when they go to canada to track down the terrorist.Pankaj Kapur(Mehendi Singh) plays a naives and loyal henchman to JHAAMVAAL.He is then kidnapped by Abhishek and Zayed along with special agent Esha Deol(Neha) and then begins a superb twisting and turning story. But the best part is near the end when the story takes such a drastic turn and an absolutely brilliant secret unfolds which will definitely make the viewers gasp!! Zayed Khans performance is the most notable as he plays a lovable, cool and suave officer.Hes the glue that holds the film together.Abhishek has improved a lot and comic scenes between him and Sanjay Dutt are hilarious.Diya Mirza(Zayed Love interest) and Raima Sen(Suniel's ex-wife) are quite forgettable.Esha Deol is absolutely disappointing and looks woe-be-gone.Shilpa Shetty definitely makes you drool with her looks and hair! She gives a gritty performance as an officer and a silent lover to Sanjay Dutt.Pankaj Kapur is worth million laffs as he provides lite moments in the film. And finally a big Thumbs-up to Director Anubhav Sinha for this stupendous movie!
