Finally a decent series on a trajectory to match The Next Generation
8 January 2023
In terms of when this is set, it's important to remember it's just before the original series with Kirk and way before The Next Generation. You need to take this into account when evaluating, looking at what the mission is, looking at the sets, costumes and all round character of the show.

It has embraced that which we're all used to from that era of the Trek universe.

The rule breaking, edge of your seat decision making, pushing boundaries, constant uncertainty and volatility, tongue in cheek scenarios, a healthy dose of sarcasm, wit and humour all mixed with a decent amount of action, wide variety of aliens and great effects and CGI.

Anson Mount nails Pike. Particularly as a predecessor to Kirk who was a happy maverick. The surrounding cast just excel it even further and it's tough to fault any of them.

The mention of other reviewers with "wokeness" I believe are mixing it up with ethnic diversity, which is beautiful and rich across the entire cast.

If you're looking for wokeness and a trek through emotions.......watch Star Trek Discovery.

This, nails what Star Trek is. Great stories, on a 5 year mission with wonderful diversity and a fresh take on that era of the trek universe.

Long may it last. They have so many possibilities to deepen a lot of the characters and expand the universe even further.

Star Trek: Discovery: Rosetta (2022)

Please make the painful viewing stop
4 January 2023
More emotions. More apologies. More feelings.

Did the writers not get hugged enough as a child?

Please make the pain and drama stop. Take a leaf out of The Wrath of Khan. One of the most emotional Star Trek viewings, but they didn't shove it down your throat at every turn. It all built to a crescendo at a pivotal moment.

If the show keeps this up I'm pretty sure we'll become desensitized to emotions completely (yes....it's that bad).

If any of these characters that the writers have forged were to go through a psychological assessment for traveling in space I'm pretty sure they'd fail.

This episode once again has a story that could be told in 5 mins without all of the personal issues that have to be extrapolated at a painful speed.

Change the writing, or change the writers. The cast are great. They just have a load of crap to work with.

Star Trek: Discovery: Stormy Weather (2021)
Season 4, Episode 6

More emotional drivel
1 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It seems Star Trek: Discovery is more about the discovery of emotions 1,200 years from now as opposed to discovering some cool stories and ground breaking tv. Even the ships computer goes on a journey of discovering itself in this episode.

Where's the hypothetical future? What's with taking todays issues and painting them around a load of sci-if sets and CGI. What's the point?

The whole idea of Star Trek is to be groundbreaking and visionary. This just takes the world today and wraps it up in some shiny lights in space.

Mix that with the lax demeanor everyone has on a ship that is supposed to have a command structure. It's a total load of garbage.

For a series that started out as the main character being imprisoned as a mutineer........the level of sass, doubt, questioning, rule breaking and sheer crap they give each other beggars belief.

For the love of god......to save the show, change the writers. Stop forcing the emotional wokeness down everyone's throat. Just let it be. Don't force it and then focus on good story telling.

Starts of weak, just like the original. Gets much better.
6 October 2022
For anyone that has seen the original, you'll know that the first episode was full of errors, poor reflections, slow storyline and too many inner monologues.

One thing that is true of the original series is that all the actors got comfortable in their own skin as the show went on and the stories got better.

The same can be said of this sequel.

The first episode isn't great. But it sets up the premise. By episode 2, you're invested. Episode 3 sets up a much deeper backstory.

There's a lot of hope for this series and at the current trend it's only getting better and better. Well worth a shot.

An entertaining show, with a lot of heart and some good laughs that looks to have a deeper thread of stories throughout as opposed to just the episodic nature of wash, rinse, repeat of the original series.

Ridiculous
13 April 2022
How this pile of **** got made is beyond me. I liked Independence Day, 2012 was meh, The Day after Tomorrow had some decent bits. Even Godzilla was Oscar winning compared to this.

But this is just bad from beginning to end.

The story is ridiculous. The acting is poor. The lead actors are just regretting this film from about 10 mins in. The CGI is nowhere near as good as his previous movies, so there is nothing ground breaking here that he is known for in terms of punching the envelope.
