Black Mirror: Joan Is Awful (2023)
Surprisingly funny
This is one of the funniest, and surprisingly good episodes I've seen from this season. They managed to perfectly balance the crude side of the story, mark of the house, along with extremely funny moments and great performances. Salma Hayek playing herself is out of this world, and Annie Murphy on a totally different role since "Schitt's Creek" were totally convincing. Despite the repeating topic of a heist inside a heist, the funny component makes it fresh and dynamic. One of those episodes I like watching again to get some laughs out. Loved that conclusion, having you confirm what those same media corporation are capable if given the time, resources and legal "vacuums"
I Care a Lot (2020)
Surprised??
You know what?, hate to break it to you: the American legal system allows for that to happen, and as a matter of fact it happens every day, a new victim of the judicial system falls into the hands of a juicy business that those carers, that exist, act on those peoples money, assets, belongings like if it's their own. Welcome to America. Now do something about it. It seems that when people get to see what they don't wanna see, they get upset and that is what this movie is all about: it's telling you a story of something that is real but you can't believe your country is capable of such things. Guess what, it is.
History's Greatest Escapes with Morgan Freeman (2021)
Aren't you forgetting something....?
Not going to criticise what this series is including, but what it's missig: is it deliberately, don't find interesting enough, or have really missed the story of Pablo Escobar's imprisonment and jail break, which is a story at least as interesting as any already included on this series.
Have they really missed that????
Bob's Burgers (2011)
Such a different show, so fresh
Is there a character more funny and unique than Tina out there? Don't think so. Even the extremely annoying Gene is hilarious, and lets not forget Linda singing her way through life. This show is so funny and different from all the rest, that really stands out as another option to the existent type of adult cartoons on television. We really enjoy this show.
The Big Bang Theory (2007)
Booooooringggg
So here's the thing: a show about a group of science nerds making jokes about science. Ok. Beyond that...DISAPPOINTMENT. The writers instead of getting inspired by the real world of the kind of characters and develop humor from that, making the jokes more real, decided to go safe, not scare anyone and just get them in average type of relationships and families, that the only oddity they have is being loud and nosy over the top. Not to mention the fact of the main character being obviously gay, for which the writers decided to play like that is something that can be overlook, and "let's just play he's straight, but he has an odd relationship with women".
Humor is not just about easy jokes about things that happen. Good humor shows are about how the reality becomes at times so surreal, that the only intelligent thing to do is to laugh about yourself. For me, big bang is just a huge baaaang.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Catherine ooooo'haraaaaa!!!
Omg, just because of "The Crows have eyes"....and Catherine's odd accent, I haven't laughed so much with a character in YEARS!
The Mauritanian (2021)
Desolation
I totally believe that, on this universe we live in, we move energy, we affect what surrounds us, and that unleashes events that effect our lives. A collective that works this way, and were and are capable of doing this and make it pass they were defending democracy....don't know what they have called upon them.
The Expanse (2015)
It gets better and better!
First episode of season 5 was slow, and have to say almost left it and settled, but thank god I did not. The series grows to a point that you cannot belive they can keep the high energy of the series and the quality so high after all of those seasons, and even get better!! Love Avasarala, Holden, Naomi, all characters are so complex it seems you are taking a glimpse of what the future would be if we get there. DO NOT MISS THIA SHOW FOR THE WORLD if you love Sci fi!
The Hours (2002)
Aren´t we forgetting something?...
There is little more to say about this movie, and the great actresses that performed their roles with more than remarkable results.
But, what are we forgetting: Non less than the wonderful music composed by Philipp Glass for this movie, which without it, this movie surely would have still be great, but would have never reached the depths of feelings that it finally projected.
It´s more than fair to provide a separate remark to a music that also made possible that this movie sticks in the mind of many, perhaps for our entire lives.
What the Health (2017)
Not a very transparent doc
If you want to just tell us that you are into veganism, just say so, but do not make us watch a whole documentary hoping to find relevant information about health issues, to induce an idea, and what I criticise the most, to tell lies under pretext of a greater good.
I follow that we are doing harm to earth, and that we are doing harm to animals, but that DOES NOT provide a reason for telling lies.
The human being evolved from chimps because, and not only, of one reason: our diet became MORE complex, including animal proteins. If we do not have molars or canines like dogs or cats, it´s because our diet IS the one of an omnivore. The brain developed in size and complexity due to animal protein, and that is a FACT.
We can discuss about what the dairy products provide to our nutrition, I do not think it is crucial for our survival or anything, but it is part of our diet, and what made the human successful is our bodies capacity to take nutrients from different sources.
Italy, Spain, Japan, France: 4 great examples of societies with the HIGHEST life expectancy ON EARTH. ALL of them include on their diets an important portion of meat of all sources, dairy products, animal fat, and of course, vegetables and cereals. So meat is NOT the cause of us being unhealthy. One reason is: SUGAR. Something that really shocked me here, to hear some of these doctors trying to undermine its impact. WRONG. and loads of studies HAVE demonstrated the correlation with cancer. Oh and one thing: DO NOT mistake processed meat with non processed meat.
But again, it is all about NOT abusing, it is about having a balanced meal with carbs and proteins. Problems begin when you abuse and only eat one type.
So PLEASE: for truth´s sake: DO NOT underestimate peoples intelligence. ALWAYS tell the truth and let people decide. But don´t tell half truth´s, or state things like they are the bible and try to pass them as absolute truth´s.
We need to take a path, on which technology is taking a greater role, for us to stop brutalising animals, and stop polluting our planet: But by telling lies and half truth´s we are just doing the same as the people that do not really care about anything and are just looking for profit.
Away (2020)
Good...although...
I wouldn't even mind the characters drama, it makes it more real, how they would feel confronting such a huge challenge and see how it takes a toll on their personal lives. However the problem is THAT IT IS ONLY FAMILY DRAMA! it's around 80% family drama, 20% actual sci-fi. There were moments on where I literally pressed fast forward to skip the typical "you are the sun of my life, the reason for my existence" crap. This is more of a space soap, than Sci-fi.
Unsolved Mysteries (2020)
Dissapointment
I was really hoping this would be more of a "paranormal" with witnesses type of show, more like the episode Berkshires UFO, than the usual "missing people in odd circumstances" shows we already have on TV by the dozens.
For this I don´t have to pay Netflix!
Devs (2020)
Not bad...although...
I think it´s not a thing I have against the actress, since I haven´t seen any of the previous works, but now with watching Episode 7 I can say: YES, she is a BAD actress. She poorly hits the emotions, either she exaggerates or comes short, sometimes too histrionic, sometime dull. The series could have reached a higher momentum in many places if a power main actress was placed there to influence in other characters she interacts with, and could have delivered more and better.
I also feel the first two episodes grasp your attention, the middle episodes are like...nam...and we have liftoff again by the end of the series.
I think the idea of this series, on a 2 hour movie, with a better main actress, can deliver better results.
Mad Men (2007)
I would have giving the series a higher rating....but
The story line is very attractive. A group of fearless people that enjoy what they do and are really good at it. Stories that grow and develop, even with the smallest details including secrets, flaws, huge screw-ups which makes the characters very realistic and easy for the viewer to feel related to.
But...series deserved a better ending. Last season feels forced, like if the producer run out of budget last minute and they needed to close the show early.
Overall the series is one of those you love watching like a soap. Not really one of those that you just can´t wait for them to release the next episode, but still you do want to know what happens next. But the ending, it´s just not fare AT ALL with the all of the efforts made to create characters that got to you. I think the directors thought the ending was closer to life, than to give them a spectacular ending or a sounding close....whatever the thoughts they may have had, personally, they just screw 7 seasons with those final episodes.
Lost in Space (1998)
incredibly.....BAD!!
The acting...awful.
The story line....cannot be more dumb.
Special effects, what could at least save something from the film...BAD BAD BAD. I stopped counting how much plastic they used on this movie.
The voice of the robot...ridiculous
My advise. Don't waste your time just like I just did.
