Tourist Trap (2018– )
8/10
This series is pleasant and funny
21 November 2019
I just discovered this series and watched the first two episodes of series 2. Some reviewers are comparing it to The Office, but it was cringey (which I didn't overly appreciate) and The Tourist Trap is not. I prefer The Tourist Trap. I thought some of the concepts were very clever and my husband and I both really enjoyed watching it (from Scotland). Especially liked the outdoor scenes and it's a double win for Wales because viewers are being encouraged to visit it.

The Souvenir (2019)

Not enough substance
2 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I help thinking something more interesting would happen at the end. Julie got flu at one point, she also kicked a random, debauched man out of her apartment (without explanation), so I guessed Anthony was bisexual as well as a needle-injecting drug addict. I thought the big shock at the end would be that the lovely, kind, ridiculously forgiving Julie, with everything going for her, had been given AIDS (the souvenir). Or, the end would be that the boyfriend had been arrested for reasons nothing to do with is drug use, but for planting a bomb for the IRA. Sadly though, nothing as interesting as this happened, but you get plenty of time during long scenes where nothing happens to think up you own story lines.

Excellent series unlike anything the BBC makes today
23 July 2019
Didn't know what to make of this series at the outset having no prior knowledge of it, but it didn't take long to realise it is special. It is funny and sad in equal measure, the characters are believable and you are drawn into the fascinating, scary world of mental illness in a psychiatric hospital. A very unusual, excellent piece of writing, brilliantly acted. 10 out of 10.

Have patience and watch more than one episode
9 May 2019
I bought the full series on dvd and wasn't too keen on the first episode. However, the series has grown on me and each episode is quite unique - some episodes are zany and quite brilliant. The scenery is wonderful, there are some superb cameo roles and some small touches are very very funny.

Wonderful, well balanced documentary film
25 November 2018
This excellent film will ensure this powerful, up-lifting story of workers' solidarity will be never be forgotten. One principled, good man in East Kilbride said "No" to what he was being asked to do. The story is told by the retired Rolls Royce shop stewards themselves, all great storytellers, which makes the film all the more powerful. You'll likely shed a tear watching this one.

Enjoyable but possibly more suited to a female audience
11 March 2017
I felt compelled to write a review having just watched Scottish Mussel which I was not expecting too enjoy after reading "critics" reviews (all of whom just happen to be male) which makes me suspect this film might be more appreciated by women/girls. But this film is enjoyable, some scenes are excellent and overall it is well worth watching if you sit back relax and go along with the flow. The Scottishness is meant to be exaggerated and I thought it was funny.

I liked the character Fiona, the headmaster/Ms Pringles cameo and Beth and Ritchie were a believable couple. The hypnotherapy scene with the otter was funny. The film got better as it went along and it is definitely romantic and lightheartedly daft. The American character was very funny as was the dippy friend.

This is a nice, clean family film beautifully shot in Scotland. Well done Talulah. Please try again. I can't believe people have written such vicious reviews about your first acting/directing/writing role. And I have no connection with Talulah and hated that film 'St Trinians' she was in starring Russell Brand which seemed to have been written to appeal to dirty old men. If you like that I doubt you'll rate 'Scottish Mussel'.

A well made, extraordinary documentary
9 October 2016
The legacy of Tony Blair is now laid bare for the whole world to see in this excellent documentary. It's debatable whether Tony Blair was a decent person when he became Prime Minister of Britain, but what's for sure is that power went to his head and in the end he was totally out of control and he did what the hell he liked. And hell is what he created in Iraq.

This documentary brings together all the damning evidence against Blair which demonstrates, without a doubt, he is morally bankrupt as a human being. His behaviour since invading Iraq has been absolute diabolical. He basically jets around the world and say or does anything (including praising and "advising" a brutal dictatorship like Kazakhstan's) for personal financial gain.

A good, original result
13 May 2016
Really enjoyed this movie. All the actors are brilliant and the script is so original and funny in parts and the themes quite deep. I'm Scottish and this is definitely our type of humour.

If Guy Pearce is in a film it's nearly always good. He must be able to read a script and just know.

But it is definitely a romantic comedy DRAMA. If people are expecting a traditional romantic comedy they will be sorely disappointed and this possibly explains the low IMDb rating because this is undoubtedly a good film.

Would recommend.

Beautifully shot funny film set in Glasgow
18 August 2015
I watched this in a cinema and there was a lot of laughter coming from the audience. One man even laughed at the first line. The laughing continued throughout.

I would have given the film 10 stars but the story is a bit ridiculous. But, since it is comedy, and IS funny this didn't seem to matter too much. The ending was amusing too.

The film is beautifully shot and the acting is 1st class. My favourite line delivered brilliantly by Emma is "I label everything." And I agree with another reviewer that in the future, this may be considered a cult classic.

A pleasant, family-friendly romantic comedy
23 July 2015
I enjoyed a good deal of this film as there were so many nice little touches - like Rob driving along at a snail's pace along a country road as his wife had been killed in a road accident. I also liked how by the end of the film the two old, male customers had been educated to appreciate good food.

My main criticism is that the plot is too predictable but then that criticism could apply to almost all romantic comedies.

Anyway, thought I'd write a review because this film has nice values when so many romantic comedies of late don't. And it's not sexist which is another plus.

Wish I hadn't seen it

Warning: Spoilers
The first five minutes of this film were quite funny and then it slowly descended into hell. Half way through watching it I thought, "I bet the film director went to an elite independent school". I looked him up and he did. He also studied Law at Cambridge. The conclusion is that I'm just not posh enough to enjoy this type of humour.

I watched it with a teenage relative and she hated it just as much. She said, "All the characters are horrible". As the film progressed it became more and more unpleasant and I actually ended up feeling anxious watching it.

The horrible main character didn't turn up at the hospital the day before his girlfriend thought her mother was going to die. To anyone, especially teenage girls and boys out there, DO NOT FORGIVE SOMEONE WHO DOES SOMETHING AS BAD AS THIS TO YOU. Didn't like the morals in this film at all.
