Total flop in documentary respect
11 October 2023
I was so disappointed! I am not a Latvian, Russian or even from a Baltic country. But I was interested in the history of this place since I had never heard about it. But it was a waste of time.

This was not about life after USSR at all. You get almost no documentary about it. You just get the Russian speaking people nagging about their current situation and about them remembering the good old times of Soviet occupation (that was not so nice for the nation of Latvia). And that the city of Liepaja is not helping them (which it was!!!). The film really only tries to find nice feelings about those fun Soviet times and great memories... and forgets everything else. All predictions of the film are negated when you go see (GMaps) Karosta now. See for yourself. It has economic activity, it is much cleaner than hundreds of other places in the Baltics that "experienced" Soviet Union. The main characters in the movie are skeptical of all development by Liepaja city... but they were wrong. The much talked about bridge is there. The prison museum is open (but not at all highlighted in the film). The Latvian army has base there. The housing complexes are either fixed, derelict or are in some poor shape but all lived-in. The director definitely did not visit any other parts of the country or even across the bridge in Liepaja! Because he would have seen similar "projects" everywhere. Right across the river. There are scores of shops in this Karosta area (a hotel too) and the center church is renovated and glimmering in new shape.

It is almost like this is not about Karosta... but about some Russian speaking people who are unhappy in Latvia.

There are much better documentaries about the aftermath of Soviet Occupation in Baltic countries and in Latvia too. See them, not worth your time to watch this.

Like watching a painted wall dry
19 June 2023
Some meaning. That could have been told in 5 minutes. Truly boring empty stills most of the time. Some surreal script does not make a drama movie. Or even a movie. Would have goven 1 star but some of the local shots were fine.

Is it a Greek novie style to purposefully nake movies slow, less talked and totally void of feelings. Like is that the movie "industry" in Greece that makes movies to be always like this. Somehow it is even more ironic that when Hollywood or some other "putside" interest makes Greek topic movies, they are fun, understandable and interesting. And the actors actually act like normal human beings. :-/

Mindless mindless
28 February 2023
No beginning, no end...just mindless clips. I watched it so you dont have to. The different episodes are like a random bunch of supposedly dystopia gone bad.. or something. Don't get me wrong, I like dystopia movies, episodes... If they make ANY sense. These did not. Some are so bad I was really really tempted.to fast forward to next episode. But I didnt. Should have.

It is hard to believe the same director was behind good movies like District9 and Elysium.

The only thing common is some of thenspecial effects and weirdo creatures. But they dont make a.film, not even short ones as these are.

If you like movies to have a plot or meaning....this is not for you. :-)

Find the 100 mistakes in the film!
28 December 2022
Or to be more blunt, find close to 1000 errors in the minseries. Just terrible, unbelievable.

Already the first episode is such pain to watch. The take was when the second in command was in school, telling whst the MI6 does. 😀 The boss (or 2nd in command) of MI6 would never be like this, act like this and the incompetent idiots, also called agents, would not make such beginner mistakes. Hard to believe that people who directed it had been in this business before. And the script writers.... PLEASE. Next time, don't hire kids from middle school to write it!

It would be nice to know the real.reason why it was done? Did Olga need a movie?

Also, the other characters seem to be in-between jobs! That is usially a tell tale sign that the acting is ....well ...done with other thing in mind.

If at all possible choose some other agent series.

Fun, surprising, daring/violent and comedic at times
19 March 2022
WE watched this movie yesterday and I must say that it was a very surprising movie.

I have seen some movies/series that were made during covid-19 and they are normally pretty bad. This one is positive surprise!

Mads Mikkelsen is the Hollywood Actor but the rest of the main actors are very good too. The plot is almost like a Coen movie. Crazy moments... killed people (sorry, "plot" spoiler... not really :-D) comedy, plot twists, some serious topics and overall quite entertaining movie!

If you like the Coen brothers type of movies, you like this.

If you want to watch paint dry...
14 March 2022
I wasted several hours of my life (and wife too!) on this ultra boring, elongated, no-acting thing. Why did they even do this, it escapes me!

If you want to watch it ... please watch just the episode preview intros and this way in eight-ten minutes you have watched the whole story/series. What a waste of resources.

An odd movie, yet somehow satisfying
31 December 2021
When choosing this film (wife an I) thought we are going to watch a western movie. Yes ... we did but a very odd one at that! All through the movie (it starts slow) I was thinking also ... why did they give this name to it... and in the the middle of it you tend think you know why. But you don't! No spoilers here but this is the kind of movie you do not know what you are about to see, and while it is a mixed bag and not all viewers will like the topics/shades/story... it is never the less very surprising one! And the ultimate Easter egg is at the end, which all good movies should have. So this one is not from the normal strain of movie making and therefore well worth seeing (and being surprised).

Come on!
30 December 2021
It is fun, witty, chatty, warm and acting is good! Most of you who rated it "1" must be young and single. I have seen "Shark meets Godzilla" movies with better rating. This is how life in a relationship is! And you get several couples in trouble here and you will surprise yourself. The movies will fool you on at least few stereotypes on this movie :-)

Remember the reason why this was done!
19 August 2021
"Sometimes you see a film and it knocks you for six." Sometimes those films are unknown to most western world people. The Cranes Are Flying is one of those films. Made in Soviet Union in 1957, it was made for propaganda. Yes, it has some (for its time) nice cinematography, but that is a poor excuse to rate this film high if you also consider also WHY Soviet Union made the film (for the westerners: no film was released in Soviet Union unless it passed the political radar...in this case a Communist Ideology Radar). The Nazis made great (technical) films....but we still don't rate them high. Same applies here. There are great films about the war, love, drama and human relationships....and this is not one of them.

Are you being fired?
27 May 2021
Is so, you should see this movie! If not, you should see this movie...because one day you are fired (or under the threat of being fired). This movie so well outlines the modern day business and American way of firing its most valuable asset. People. And I am not even American, but from Nordic country. 😆
