Fever Pitch (2005)
Watch the English original instead
The original 1997 movie with Colin Firth is a gem based on an amazing book. This is a copy of a copy that lacks the charm of the original movie.
Also - it's about baseball. The book and the original movie are about the passion of football fans and makes a lot more sense. This is a tired attempt to copy the beauty of the original while transitioning it to a different sport on a different continent. Doesn't quite work out. And I've never understood this American habit of taking great British movies steal the plot and make an American remake that is usually just an halfassed attempt at copying something original and beautiful. The results rarely live up to the original, so why not just watch the original instead?
The story and the characters of this version are just not as believable or relatable as in the original. Skip this and see the 1997 English original instead. So much better.
Ormens väg på hälleberget (1986)
Terrible film based on a brilliant book
Read the book. It is probably the best book Torgny Lindgren has written, and he has written many great books.
Sadly, the film is a disaster. Worst of all is that the whole cast, who are supposedly portraying people in Northern Sweden (Västerbotten, to be more specific) in the19th century, are speaking with Stockholm accents. It takes away all credibility and makes a complete mockery of the story.
It's hard to understand how a normally more than competent director and some of Sweden's best actors have managed to fail so completely in bringing a fantastic story to the screen. Just avoid this film. Please. Read the book instead. It's brilliant.
