The Professionals: You'll Be All Right (1982)
Season 5, Episode 3
10/10
Bodie and Doyle play bodyguards
6 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The title of the episode refers what the dad says to his son in the middle of the episode , I'll be doing porridge for my sins while you enjoy your life on the outside. That dad is played by the late Derrick o Connor most famous for being Mel Gibson's nemesis in Lethal Weapon 2 ( which he played brilliantly) . Here he hires our 2 heroes giving up himself up so that he can peace of mind while he will do his porridge. In fairness bodie and Doyle save the wife and kids on a couple of occasions and at the end it's violins 🎻 all round as Derrick finally leaves his hideaway and says bye bye to his kids with peace of mind and bodie and Doyle get their man basically on a plate. All's well that ends well

Kill with "kindness "
3 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Mickey Hamilton starts off by killing a political figure which gets the Professionals involved even though he was targeting a doctor , representing any doctor who messed up a personal issue. Apparently knowing that the doctor he goes back to the same hospital and goes on a mini rampage . He then goes to a nun who is minding his dying daughter and the nun tells him he must "Soldier on" (grin on his face) . He goes to a priest who says it's ok "to kill with kindness " (another grin on his face) . This provokes him to go to a doctors conference for a potential rampage. However the professionals had caught up with him by then and he had to face to them in a stunning climax. However is it the ultimate irony that we could blame the church for "okaying" his actions?

Tj hooker goes Beverly Hills Cop!
28 May 2020
Hooker goes fish out of water chasing the usual drug dealer nonsense in Chicago. intriguingly the makers introduce the late Charlie Bertram as an Axel Foley type character to liven things up in both the comedy and in fairness also the action department reflecting popular movie of the day Beverly Hills cop. Bertram is to be frank excellent and should have returned in the following series but they reverted to formula for one final season on another network.

The forgotten Walter McGinn
29 April 2020
Walter mcginn puts in a sympathetic performance in an otherwise relatively routine episode of the famous cop show featuring Lynn Redgrave and a young good looking Morgan Fairchild. McGinn most famous for his appearance in The Parallax View and Three Days of the Condor sadly died only a few months after this episode was originally broadcast in a car accident.

The Sweeney: Taste of Fear (1976)
Season 3, Episode 5
9/10
Psychological study of a weak officer
31 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Norman eshley is well cast as the cowardly police officer, but how is that possible?!? How could the British police have a coward on their books that gets transferred to the Sweeney?!? It's never properly explained and of course no time in a 45 minute prime time tv episode. We do see the good copper in him getting the address of the two bad guys. Subsequently regan is not happy with his tactics and says he must guard another house in the climactic scene but the coward begs for a chance in the final shootout. In fairness Regan goes against his misgivings of him and gives him a chance to mix with the big boys. What happens? He bottles it and runs off to a telephone box where they find him crouched and crying. An unusual sight for an episode of the Sweeney and all the braver of the producers for making and releasing it. A reminder that not everyone on the force are as tough as Regan and Carter.

Fantastic episode

Warning: Spoilers
Arthur is nominated for jury service for a case Chisholm is involved in and asks Terry to mind the shop. Terry's girlfriend Debi gets involved in a robbery at a house that Terry gets tied up in. The jury conversation is very well done with one of them a famous face Gyneth Strong from Only Fools and Horses and another too busy knitting to participate in any decision or discussion!!

Inspector Morse: The Remorseful Day (2000)
Season 8, Episode 5

Sentimental ending of classic drama series
5 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The filmmakers got it right, John thaw died in November 2000 when this episode was broadcast not in February 2002. The plot has the usual machinations of an episode of Inspector Morse but oh the irony that the doctor who tells Morse is seriously ill and cannot get better turns out to be the murderer. Also liked it was TP McKenna who was a slimy DCI in a fantastic episode of The Sweeney , boss of Jack Regan, was one of the last characters to talk to Inspector Morse or was that Chief Inspector Morse?!?

A different side to chandler
13 August 2019
In this episode we see a different side to the chandler character very well played by Canadian actor Matthew Perry who displays extreme embarrassment at her mom being a successful novelist but don't you dare kiss her! Morgan Fairchild should have been in more episodes

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is amusing in spots but how could joey be so stupid as to lose his job as a butt double? And chandlers brief romance with aurora doesn't make sense is not funny or touching. Not the best

Warning: Spoilers
Lee Marvin asks this question at the end of the movie to his Japanese compatriot. The latter looks at the horrific pictures on the Life magazine they found on the island 🌴 and is telling the audience why but never gets the time to show Marvin! Great ending! Unlike what others have said it shows the horrors of war and the randomness of murder. These guys presumably died together even though they are on opposite sides. Fantastic picture

Warning: Spoilers
Back to back with A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square where David Niven has the Ian mcshane role incredibly released the same year of 1979 with both our heroes escaping st the end in respectively hilarious manners. Both heist movies are immensely entertaining with the edge just going to nightingale with its bigger budget and the charismatic performance of Richard Jordan. Sewers is set in sunny France 🇫🇷 though

A decent continuation in the franchise
5 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who has seen the original trilogy will simply straightaway feel comfortable when it starts like an old blanket. The movie covers the same formula as before just with different actors. The only addition is some background on Jason's dad and his apparent involvement in the recruitment of his son. The end even leaves open a possible continuation in the franchise which surprised me as I assumed that Matt Damon would insist that the character be killed off.

Warning: Spoilers
This picks up from the fallout of what happened in rocky 4 and then has the genuine excuse of going back to its roots which explains why they rehired John g avildsen. Love the way rocky always treated tommy Gunn with the utmost respect and then at the end just kicks his ass and puts him in his place and reminds him who is the greatest

Starts well but Jessica Lange ruins it
19 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The concept starts well enough when we are introduced to loser actor Michael Dorsey (Hoffman) and his agent (pollack) and roommate (Murray) among others . Michael needs to raise money for a play so he dresses up as a woman to get an acting job in a soap and ironically falls for an actress Jessica Lange , oh my god that woman is detestable and she nearly ruins the movie. One example is she tells Dorothy she wants a guy to come up to her tell she's really interesting and that he would love to make love to her. What happens? Michael Dorsey does that almost as instructed at a house party out on a balcony and Lange throws water in his face ! What a xxxx and it's never explained why she did that or mentions it to Dorothy afterwards. I never saw any reason that Michael Dorsey via Dorothy would fall in love with the detestable Jessica Lange which undermines the whole movie and the last scene. I mean he still chases her down the street after she had punched him in the stomach! Go figure

Warning: Spoilers
Richard Gere clearly still hyperactively fit from shooting officer and a gentleman chases after Monica a French Student whom he had met in Las Vegas. En route however he kills a cop and essentially spends the rest of the movie running from the cops to Monica while also chasing money for his excursions around a well photographed Los Angeles to his inevitable tragic denouement which in itself is executed with some rock n roll panache.

Better than the original
17 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly the original is overrated populated by too many stooopid characters among other problems with it. This movie starts proper after only a few minutes when mcclane spots 2 suspicious looking characters entering the luggage area and he kills one of them. This then sparks off the plot of the rest of the movie with unrelenting suspense thrills and action with a few laughs on the way as well. I love love love this movie with the best action scene with Bruce killing those fake painters with renny harlin putting that scene in slow motion for added effect. Anyway enjoy the movie if you haven't seen it before

Alien 3 (1992)

Alien 3 :the mother of all alien movies!
7 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Oh what a joy this movie is! What a winning eerie atmosphere from start to finish!!! The plot of the movie is logical contrary to what people are saying. Ridley lands on a prison planet and finds newt dead and needs an autopsy, enter the brilliant Charles dance as the doctor/ brief lover to ripley. Actually my only gripe is that dance gets killed off far too quick! Anyway ripley soon realizes there is 2 aliens ; one inside her and one roaming around the planet killing off a few of the prisoners including the warden ( poetic justice for a nasty piece of work). Her plan is to kill both at the furnace where she had cremated newt earlier. It works and finally we have a T2 style ending of ripley lowering herself into the furnace just as her alien is shooting out! What an ending!!!! I was gripped from start to finish and had a great time in the flicks back in 1992. The finest alien movie of the whole lot

Blockbuster tv from the 1970s
7 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The only character I hated with a passion was Frank Burns as played by Larry linville. He was neurotic , annoying, incompetent, stupid, ignorant, unlikeable though I will say the incessant bullying that he received from Hawkeye and whatever sidekick he had was while deserved over the top to the point of intolerable that you wonder why Larry linville stayed until 1977 when you got the feeling they were also slagging off the actor as well! Anyway one of my favorite episodes was where Hawkeye gets sick of the food they get at the canteen and eventually jumps up on the table and shouts We WANT SOMETHING ELSE WE WANT SOMETHING ELSE!!!! Upon which the whole canteen joins in. Hahahaha Connected to this ( not sure if same episode) where Hawkeye orders some famous ribeye from Chicago so desperate was he for some decent grub and indeed spends most of the episode organizing it and when it finally arrives and cooked and brought to Hawkeye to his table he is dragged away by his 2 mates to work hahahahaha Great tv

A Requiem for Johnny Lewis
6 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The movie itself plays out as a typical alien/ predator movie which is probably the biggest and most successful franchise for 20th century fox. However it is poorly lit by the DP so sometimes it's hard to follow those alien predator predalien fights that we paid to see. Anyway in the directors commentary the brothers strause talk about killing off Ricky / johnny Lewis in the movie which now seems creepy even though they changed their mind I think and he was kept on to the end. In 2011 Johnny Lewis got a severe cranial injury after a road accident and subsequently went off the rails and died the following year while attacking and robbing an old woman. Watch the movie now with a different perspective and say a quick prayer for Johnny Lewis, his requiem
