The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006)
At a loss for words...
Having a lot of Irish friends I personally see that this is still a sensitive issue for a lot of people. And it is just mind boggling how much many people don't know about things like this. People say this is a Irish Braveheart rip off which I find ridiculous, it's history, you can't rip off facts. And even if it wasn't true, this film just leaves you in awe of a nation's struggle to be free.
The script was real, the location was beautiful, the directing was marvelously done & well the acting, there aren't many words, the only actor in this that I know of is Cillian Murphy but I will get to him... Padraic Delaney who plays his brother in the movie did an amazing job, they didn't have much screen time together but the scenes they do share you never doubt the love & bond & later betrayal between brothers. Orla Fitzgerald who plays the love interest Sinead, her performance moved me, I don't know what else I can really say. Now for Cillian Murphy Who happens to be one of my favorite actors, well for me he just hits home. I think this guy is on the road to becoming one of the greats, we don't know much about him as a person, but all the great actors and actresses knew how to keep their private life private & just made movies because they loved it, & you can see that in everything he does, it is just a joy to watch... His performance in this movie was for me mind blowing & it touched me very much.
It's a true story that people should know more about. Beautifly told, and amazingly put on screen between the director, the set, & the actors. It was just a great, devastating movie.
Cursed (2005)
I don't understand...
Okay, I just watched this last night with my older sister, now I am not usually a Wes Craven fan, although there are a few of his movies that didn't bother me. My sister and I saw the cover, and yes, yes you should never judge a book by it's cover, but we saw Christina Ricci, and we just automatically assumed... good movie... well because she's an amazing actress and almost never makes a bad movie (almost never), we didn't read what it was about, we just went on a leap of faith, and after the movie, we came on this site to see what the user comments were like, because we just thought this movie was awful... and we come to see that, it has good reviews. This I do not understand, the acting, horrible, the storyline even worse, and well the directing I can say nothing about because even if I do not like the movies he chooses to direct, they aren't badly done... I can't even explain how horrible this was, I mean like, the script was horrible, and Judy Greer's role... I was in awe of it's awfulness... All I can say is I don't care if this movie is on TV and there is nothing else to watch, like put on the History channel or something 'cos it's just not even worth wasting your time with.
The Skeleton Key (2005)
Could have been so much better !!
I went to go see the Skelenton Key with some friends, it's summer a 'scary' movie at night with your friends is what your supposed to do but this movie wasn't that great! i will admit that i jumped every once and a while but so would anyone with the loud sound effects and the big screen sometimes that's all you can do.
Now the story had some real potential to be interesting and scary but potential isn't enough to carry the movie. The beginning was WAY to long and the middle was confusing and the end WAY to short, the ending kind of just falls on your lap and then you get up and leave the theater. It all happened either to fast or to slow and nothing was REALLY explained so you leave the movie disappointed and confused.
I wouldn't recommend this movie not even to rent don't waste your money wait for it to turn up on the T.V. one of these days.
