Can You Keep a Secret? (2019)
Not everything needs to be deep and serious..
This is a light, fun, easy to watch rom com. I don't understand why so many people need everything to be intense, meaningful and thought provoking to be enjoyable, sometimes it's nice just to kick back and watch something warm and fuzzy. I really enjoyed this one and am giving it a 10 to try to balance out all the other misery guts reviewers that are clearly taking life too seriously!
Cool Dog (2010)
So bad we relished nearly every moment...
Watched this on Family movie night on Stan, had been in our watch list for a while. So embarassing and cringey at some moments I could barely watch the screen, so many ridiculous, dreadful dialogues we were chuckling. Actors so enthusiastic they may as well have been reciting the dictionary. Our 6 year old thoroughly enjoyed himself and gave some genuine belly laughs at the ridiculous, over the top dog scenes. Actually thoroughly enjoyed watching for the continuity errors, guessing the next predictable scene and laughing out loud at the total awfulness of this one! Rating a 10/10 because we still had fun watching it.. but for all the wrong reasons.
Virgin River (2019)
Finally a show worth investing in!
I love love love this series. It has heart, complex human characters with none of the out there gratuitous subject matter that is so on trend these days, just steady solid storytelling without any cringe. I've cried and i've laughed and been so disappointed to reach the end of the season.
Absolutely great job from Netflix.
Brooklyn (2015)
Really enjoyed this movie but...
I actually really enjoyed this movie. I didn't mind that the lead character didn't face many challenges and that overall everyone around her was kind as other reviewers have commented. I didn't even mind that the main protagonist, her ex-employer in Ireland was hardly a protagonist at all.
But what niggled at me in the latter half of the movie was the Main character's suddenly spineless uncharacteristic slippery slope into having an emotional affair with another man and toying with his emotions and ignoring her husbands letters when they had gone to such great lengths to build her character in the beginning as one of such fine moral standing, kindness and gentleness. Even more so that the slippery slope was a steep one taking place less than a full month after she had just been married in Brooklyn? That part of the storyline felt weak and uncomfortable.
That said, visually the movie was beautiful, most of the characters were likeable and it was a nice way to while away 90 minutes of an afternoon.
Love, Rosie (2014)
Gorgeous movie, was sorry when it ended!
I'm a bit tired of reading reviews dominated by people that want to overthink and scrutinise every single little detail. Not every movie needs to be deep and thought provoking to be enjoyable, life is intense enough as it is, live a little.
The two leads in this movie had good chemistry and I found myself really batting for them along the way. I laughed in parts, got teary in parts and found myself smiling right to the very end and was sorry when it finished.
I loved every minute of this movie. It was pure, feel good escapism which was just what I needed today, haters are going to hate I guess but take this movie for what it is, relax and enjoy.
Playing It Cool (2014)
Really enjoyable twist on a rom com
I never quite understand why people feel the need to over analyse every movie they ever see and look for some deeper hidden meaning, not every movie needs to be Arthouse and edgy. Sometimes it's good to just sit back and enjoy something less heavy and enjoy it for what it is.. light entertainment. This fell under that category for me and really hit the spot. Funny in parts, great actors and likeable quirky characters and some sweet moments.
Bad Girl (2016)
Awful
This film was awful. The plot was all over the place and the characters were all hideous, not enough information was given about any of them to feel any sympathy what so ever for the messes they got themselves into along the way. The ending was abrupt and didnt actually complete the story either. No explanation as to why the emergency services that were called just didn't show up either. Don't bother with this one, there are far better thrillers out there.
The Kissing Booth (2018)
Loved it
I actually really loved this, the characters were likeable and it was an entertaining, light watch, was sad when it ended and I'd love to see a sequel some time!l
Mum, Dad, Meet Sam (2014)
Awful
I'm not quite sure where to begin on this one. Poorly acted, poor storyline and the over the top racism displayed by the main protaganists Josiah's mother and ex-girlfriend was difficult to swallow, particularly as Josiah never seemed to grow a pair and really stand up to them. Their vindictiveness and arrogance was well over the top and made it difficult to be at all sympathetic to the characters and was presented as well beyond a cultural clash into something much blacker. Don't bother with this one.
