Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Yawn fest
I must confess I'm still secretly hoping this movie is a parody, a prank played on everyone and we'll be happily laughing when it becomes clear it never intended to be taken seriously.
My main beef is with the story, it absolutely makes no sense. Because the story makes no sense, obviously the dialogues and everything else make no sense either.
The worst scenes of the movie are those where humans are present, they are even worse if the humans are talking. If there were no humans talking, it could be an ok movie. Judging by the scenery and the special effects, this is a high budget movie and has some skilled technicians working on set.
I'm still trying to understand how someone decided to create this story "we are an intergalactic force, subjugating other planets and we send our might juggernauts to connect flour from subjugated planets. They use horses and sickles and they work hard for the flour. But then they start using the sickles as weapons, against the intergalactic force! And they had hammers too, and the women working the fields started shooting with guns. And a chinese lady had two laser swords and she was menacing. And everyone was shooting and some were using laser swords and some were punching and some had knives they were going to use after the punch fight.
All characters are forgettable, the only exception is the robot. Zack just make a movie about the robot, with no humans present, please!
Your Highness (2011)
Hillarious as f (pun intended)
I watched it many years ago, but I feel compelled to rate it, after seeing the low rate. I'll admit that I have a quirky sense of humor and the movie is absolutely vulgar, but it made my eyes cry because of all the laughter. The story itself is irrelevant, the movie doesn't take itself seriously, but the comedic moments are crazy good, if you are not a prude, you don't get offended by jokes and don't expect a comedy to be politically correct.
I still remember, after 10 years, the minotaur scene, and the role the penis souvenir had in the exorcism scene. The humor is not random, there is a mix of in your face humor and subtle continuations.
Vortex (2022)
Excellent
It's not a 10/10 the way Dark is, but let's face it, most series involving altering past are a disaster.
This one does a pretty good job at telling the story, in a touching way, and it also presents beautifully the dilemmas you'd be facing if you were able to alter the past.
It's not going to be a series I will often think about, but I was satisfied with everything regarding it, the actors, the implementation of an idea, the length of the series. They got everything in the right dosage.
There will have to be some suspension of disbelief involved, as the movie does not get into technical details about how the event occurred, but that was just fine. I prefer a movie that says "It just happened" rather than trying to stupidly explain something that cannot be explained.

Entertaining
The show starts strong, with some promising characters but it turns into a bit of a soap opera about the adventures of a blonde girl falling in love left and right.
I am perplexed at how much snot drips from the protagonist's nose, this has got to be her trademark. Some actors can cry on demand, she can get drips of snot whenever she blinks.
At the end of the day it is an entertaining tv series, you just need to suspend your sense of disbelief and just grab some popcorn.
Dark (2017)
What remains when a dream is over?
Simply put this has to be the best tv series I've ever watched. It is dark, it is insanely complex and subtle, every actor delivers perfectly.
You watch episodes that increasingly make the knot of ideas so complicated that you are absolutely confident it could never be unravelled in a satisfying manner. Yet, because every scene is so well executed you allow yourself to drift in that ocean, without worrying about disappointing outcomes.
Somehow, in an impossible way, the knot is unravelled, the darkness is cast away and you get the most elegant ending imaginable. The one way that not only does not disappoint, but it leaves you with your thoughts and questions about meaning of existence.
Sijipeuseu: The Myth (2021)
Decent idea, poor execution
It looks like the south-korean films are in love with the idea of people coming from the future to do whatever in the present days. (Alice comes to mind)
The show starts pretty well, the premise is interesting, the acting is decent, so your first impression is that you've stumbled upon a winner.
Then the reality kicks in and you're witnessing some horrendous dialogues and acting.
On one hand you have a genius that pretty much invented quantum teleportation and is so good that he manages to jump start a falling plane, on the other hand most of the time he is an absolute idiot, presented as such with an open mouth, blank stare, stupid dialogues.
During a car chase he keeps asking
'Gosh, why are they chasing us?!?
Darn, are they really going to keep chasing us????'
Yes.. it's a car chase, they want to apprehend you, they will chase you.
Maybe it's a cultural barrier, but for me it has become unbearable so i'll just give up after 4 episodes.
I'll give it 5 stars, for the basic idea and the occasional decent things, but it is a waste of time.
The 100 (2014)
Huge potential, terrible outcome
The basic idea behind the show promised great entertainment, but the outcome is depressing. So 97 years after a nuclear holocaust, 100 young-ens are sent back to Earth, in a desperate attempt to save the human race from extinction. They land and start Project X... and by that I do not mean some secretive plan to save everyone, but Project X the teen movie. They start drinking, fighting, f*cking, drinking some more, occasionally dying, like idiots. The show is a cliché fest, the love triangle, the bad boy that turns good, the clown who saves the day, the asshole with a good heart, you've got them all. You get even sexy aborigines, that speak English, some trying to kill them, some saving the sexy chick. And then you would expect the adults (back in space) to be more mature. No chance, they're worse. They finally find out they could live on Earth and what do they do? They start killing, blowing things up and generally adding all sort of pathetic schemes to an already lame plot.
Birth (2004)
Love is a tricky state of mind
Imagine that you are crazily in love with someone, so in love that nothing else matters, that you would do anything for that person. Imagine that you breathe to be around that person, that without it, there is no future, no life. And then imagine that the person is gone and all you are left is a shell tormented by memories, desperately trying to ease your pain. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel, or is it just the illusion of it? And is living enough, once you think you've had your true love? Well, that's pretty much what's in this movie, and it's no wonder that people only gave it a 6 since, for the vast majority, that type of love cannot exist. Really an excellent movie, with great acting from Nicole, and a certain common sense on the other characters. They exist in the movie, but they are not flashy, after all it's a story about love and usually this takes 2 persons.
