Miss Congeniality (2000)
FUNNY, WELL WRITTEN AND DIRECTED SANDRA IS A TREAT
Sandra Bullock is one of the top Comedy Actresses
yet she has shown power as a dramatic star (BLIND SIDE)
She knows comedy, has great timing, and though sometimes her characters are a bit extreme or daffy, she comes off as very smart. Someone we can watch and laugh with, who brings us joy and realize we have watched a terrific actress.
The movie is a delight, with the deadpan Caine, Shatner, and Bergen
sometimes stealing the show. So much fun, I have no idea why this has a low rating...we don't have very many good comedies to watch.

Ce qui nous lie (2017)
NEEDED EDITING - WAY TOO LONG
The cinematography was nice. And the use of the old and the young family members mixed together worked...but someone needed to edit this down to
1.5 hours at the most. I have watched some wonderful french films
in the past...this wasn't one of them. And all the women looked alike...odd casting...looking forward to the next Marion Cotillard film.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Truly a beautiful film
It was brilliant. When it first started, my first reaction was, this wasn't going to work, and then it opened up and just lit up the screen. The two leads were pitch perfect (who knew Nicole could sing). The imaginative director Baz Lurhmann is just fabulous. Creative, smart, and beautifully shot, not many films surprise or please me like this one did.
Very few movies succeed as musicals. (CHICAGO was a masterpiece) The love story was sincere, and the chemistry between the actors was genuine. Baz directed an earlier film that I had enjoyed STRICTLY BALLROOM, which was a wonderful film and my first introduction to his works) but this one far surpassed any of his works. And so far, he hasn't topped this film. But he's diverse - and I look forward to more films directed by him. 'Romeo and Julie' was well done, but 'Great Gatsby,' though beautifully shot and directed, just was missing a 'heart' and 'Australia' though again, another well made film just feel kind of flat. Bravo to a terrific director.
MacGyver (2016)
BORING AND UNINTERESTING STORYLINE - Typical plot lines
The lead actor isn't charismatic - has no real screen attraction. The 2 co-stars have a bit more life in them.
Could they have tried to be a bit original? It looked like a high school copycat of dozens of spy shows and not an ounce of excitement or thrill in the show. Have they even taken a look at the smartly done shows like MAJOR CRIMES, or the brilliant BATTLESTAR GALATICA...
Who greenlights these poorly thought out shows? Original shows do pop up, WHITE COLLAR for a while was original, had a some good writing and fine actors. CHUCK, BOSTON LEGAL, and early seasons of ELEMENTARY.
What a waste of money. There are actors who could use a good script and show - the Cast from CHUCK, & CASTLE.
Designated Survivor (2016)
WEAK SHOW - Lackluster writing
I barely managed to sit through most of the show, but it's lack of good writing and any tension left me just tired so I turned it off. It wasn't worth the effort to stay with this show. There are too many good shows out there. DID THEY CHECK OUT THE WRITING AND ACTING ON 'BROADCHURCH?" List of new shows that have potential include THE GOOD PLACE - clever, SPEECHLESS - WHICH WAS actually funny...This past summer brought us QUEEN OF THE SOUTH which was exciting, though violent and told a good tale. Somehow Kiefer S. lacks the charisma that makes a great star OR even a good actor. Have you watched JONNIE LEE MILLER in Elementary, a wonderful character, original, smart, and engaging. And the show is well done.
The Music Man (1962)
Wonderful screen adaptation Still holds up
I really liked the production, and the moving camera, a rarity in film making in those days (I'm 60 so i grew up with these films) helps keep the film alive.
Robert Preston was terrific. I love musicals and big films like this are a rarity, but the musical hasn't died -- it moved into the world of animation and to children's films... it resurfaces once in a while, with the spectacular
CHICAGO...
All the performers were delightful, though some overdrawn but Shirley Jones did a fine job as Marian...the credit goes to the screenwriter who apparently overhauled the Broadway play. I noticed that Ronnie Howard was listed in the movie...what a talented man he turned out to be.
