Indian Neo-realism
20 August 2023
After Bimal Roy's "Do Bigha Zamin (1953)" which was shot in Kolkata/Calcutta, this film shot in Bombay/Mumbai is the finest Indian Neo-realism genre film after decades. The film was Palme d'or Winner material for sure or at least an Oscar Nomination.

I've always liked Farooq Shaikh as a great actor for underdog characters like this one. Plus Smita Patil who has played a perfect supporting role of miserable conditioned woman.

The film shows the harsh and true realities of late 1970s Bombay, way before Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay! (1988) which also stars Nana Patekar.

Don't know why the audience don't appreciate such films even in today's era when human has become more conscious about sufferings faced by poor people...how Ironic!

Atmospheric

If you're looking for an alternative of Béla Tarr then you must see this film. This absurdly slow film has a phenomenal atmosphere! The foggy theme adds an alien feel to it and takes the viewer miles away from the reality. The murder mystery is told in the most non-conventional way possible with very limited dialogues while the silence and climate adds a language of its own.

The background score fills the hypnotic flying scenes over the unending forest Hill area with a sense of omen. I got the cinematic experience I was looking for and it certainly deserves a watch from any foreign language Film lover.

The Grand Stage of Life.
24 January 2021
Beautifully placed village drama....full of life and love....the life of people and the times we can't even think of...what more is to be said to verify that 'Cinema is no less than a Magic' ?

This film resembled to me a big grand version of Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali (1955), which makes this film even more interesting to watch. A must for all those art house cinema fans.

Dutch films can surprise you.
23 January 2021
What a stunner this film is! I can't imagine why this film is so highly hidden from us cinephiles...i saw a Dutch film 'Malpertuis' last summer and thought how much trippy this film is...but didn't know 'The Fourth Man' is going to knockout it. This film is highly recommended if you want to enjoy any element of cinema.

Misery Porn.
1 January 2021
I am considering myself lucky to start 2021 by watching this soul cleaning film. This film had all the things that i expected to see and experience...it has left me empty and confused about the mysteries of people and their professional life (legal/illegal), this is all i want after watching a film.

Morality vs Justice
12 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I think this film leaves you with a conscious mind about the people who do dirty work for us and we...we the people discriminate with them, we aren't grateful to them. Those peoples do those work for their family, for their young mouths to feed...at first they don't wanna do that but they do and they develop the habit of it..unfortunately. This film is such a slap to the structure of our society. This film deals with the morality and justice of our legal system.

Ghost Stories (2020)

Not Worth It.
31 December 2019
Most of time Netflix films have some quality stamp attached to it. Here, when four famous directors (though i find only Anurag Kashyap as my personal famous) have come together to make a horror film, we expected some quality stuff in the script and direction which i guess they failed on miserably. Dibaker Banerjee's section can be said to have some sense but others' sections were way behind the short films that are available on other platforms. I guess Hindi movies are making sense only in low budget films now a days and big productions, directors have a cloud to penetrate to reach and compete with the international cinema made by Koreans, Japanese, and European. I guess this first major film of 2020 isn't the indication of a below average cinema that we will be going to see.

Sacred Games (2018–2019)

Definitely a must watch
20 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I waited for the entire 2 seasons to write what i think about this incredible game series which is 100% desi. As i said this tv series is a must watch since there has been no other cinema of such a class and this long which is totally made in India. Second season of sacred games was visualized as the end of the game as all the remaining major characters were going to come out...this surely occured but not on a scale the fans anticipated. Talking about the performance of characters...first comes Nawaz who is so natural in his role that in the middle of the series i got bored seeing him as we get bored seeing the same person daily. Saif's character actually has no major role in the second series so the writers have to push hard and create scenes so that his character would gain some worth..despite this Saif himself has acted terribley like he is reel life hero or something...so half of the time i stared at his hand ! Pankaj Tripathi aka Guruji was the trump card of second season..i was anable to read his character in detail because of his limited appearance on screen..anyway Pankaj shined in his role like he always do by keeping his face and voice in the state of complete equilibrium. Kalki (excuse me if the name is wrong) was like a supporting hand to Saif like Pankaj Tripathi was to Nawaz...she played it well since her character demanded a foreigner turned to a Sadhvi from the influence of Guruji. Overall this season was better than the first one..although the ending was disappointing and depicting the commercial aspect of 'tv series' which give preference to attracting fans rather than providing full story. Direction from Anurag Kashyap was faultless..we can figure out how much he was deep into his story by observing his latest social media life in which he was criticizing the section of society on which the story is based. I expected a lot from Neeraj since he made Maasan which is one of a kind film, but here in sacred games he was given the script of every 2nd bollywood film which is based on cop-thief and terrorists..there was nothing much he could do. I would like to see more of him in the 3rd season. I think the show must hire some good makeup artists since Gaitonde's makeup was looking more fake than Saif's performance. I don't know what they will show next since the show is fully opened. Sacred Games has given hope to cinema lovers like me to stay connected with Made in India cinema. Have a good watch..thanks.

Parasite (2019)
9/10
I am not an OLDBOY fan anymore.
13 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Korean films are doing really well on International platform in this century, we saw how good films like BURNING and OLDBOY was and now it's PARASITE which has surpassed all of them in achieving the degree of how to grab the audience from the real world and put them in the virtual world which they ignore around them. Parasite is a story of below average income Korean family who really love eachother which is a characteristic feature of poor families. The love to exploit freebies whenever they can...they always use others' WiFi. The story takes a turn when one of their friends' visits their home and give them a kind of meteroid out of his grandfather's collection and tells that there is a need of english tuitor in a wealthy household. The family agrees to the contract even if they have make fake college degrees. The story will really make you engage once you will sit to watch this movie. There is no way you will be dissapointed by the story telling and characters. No wonder this movie won Palme d'or since it has stood the test of every variables which are involved in a perfect thriller. If you are movie fan...especially a foreign film lover then this movie is made for you...a must watch. Thanks.

Doesn't seem like a Tarantino
28 July 2019
Let me start by telling that i am Big fan of Tarantino's genre. This film which i have no doubt in declaring as just a "Tribute" to the Golden age of Hollywood is a "Flat" movie with no ripples!! Ripples which you got in Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Death Proof. This movie has a good soundtrack but with a boring screenplay(i can't believe i am saying that for a Tarantino movie!) Talking about the characters- Brad Pitt's character is so predictible that it's not worth it. Leo's on the other hand is awesome in all sense, i don't know what's the point in keeping Margot Robbie in the film. This film is too long keeping in view that it has got no plot at all. I definitely liked the ending which is a trademark of Tarantino films...the scale on which the movie was made and advertised i expected(prayed) it to be an authentic Tarantino film but as they say "Truth is stranger than fiction" i was dissappointed badly....let's hope Quentine comes with a stunner next time.

The Movie environment i was craving for!!
11 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie title is enough to give you chills if you are a nocturnal human. Let me give you some hints and some explaination of the movie: The main character is a middle aged man who has soacked his memory so much (due to a woman he loved) that he is literally dreaming about it all the time every time he tries to forget her. So he starts to search her again after he returns to Kaili due to his father's death. Here comes the spoiler and explaination you cinephiles!!! Actually, the man is just dreaming...see this point by point: 1) If you have watched the movie you observe that after the 3D movie theater scene he meets a boy who can play ping pong...do you remember the guy telling the woman(when she told that she is pregnent) that he will teach him play ping pong ? 2) later you can see a toy truck at the pool game place which looks like his trucks...there he meets the girl having looks exactly the same as the woman he has been searching for....she and the girl both givevthe refrence of the pomelo fruit. 3) later he helps a red head woman by settling the dispute with her husband who sells honey....this is related to the memory of his mother who used to go to the bee keeper's house. 4) later they go to a "love house" where the girl tells him the talks which he used to do with the woman who wore green dress. Overall, this movie environment is orgasmic and the one i was craving for such a long time. I would say that the film is inspired more from Fellini's Otte e Mezzo (Eight and a Half) than Tarkvosky or Kar-Wong....i am happy to see this film and i hope you cinema lovers feel the same way...thanks!

The Apartment (1960)

Makes you feel happy
3 March 2019
Well, i saw The Apartment 3 years ago for the first time, last year for the second time and yesterday for the third time...everytime i enjoyed it at the same rate as if i was watching it for the 1st time...and i thought that i wouldbe a cheater if i don't wrote a review even after watching this masterpiece several times...this movie is more than a classic and i am blessed to enjoy it at its full pace. Speaking of the story, the sweet story will make you engage even though the movie story is predictable. Full acting credit goes to Jack, he just punched every damn masculine and rich man in the face by snatching an angel ! The film is cozy and isn't tense or negative at all. You just need a free night after office work and some spaghetti with a coke...i mean preliminary wise. In a world full of hate and technology what you need is a movie like The Apartment. The dialogues of this movie will make you feel awesome and truly happy from the bottom of your heart...and yes the supporting cast is also humourous, don't think and waste time by reading reviews...just go and watch one of the rarest fun loving comedy of 20th century.

Darn Interesting!
5 October 2018
This movie is a perfect example of how you can tell a nail-consuming thriller in a comedic way...the plot of the movie seems to be normal but as the movie progresses, you will come to know that this cinema is more than just a usual thriller...a perfect screenplay and story-telling with a mix of music and black humor...hold your imagination horses before getting stunned.

A Must See.
5 February 2018
I've watched most of Ray's work and i can definitely say that this is the masterpiece a film lover can enjoy. Ray has full control over his camera & story telling and how can ever forget Madhubi's impeccable acting. You can easily see yourself dissolving in the story as time goes by. I adore music used by Ray in his films...it is pure, genuine & dynamic. I for the first time have seen & enjoyed a swing scene from a movie. A must watch for all the Cinéphile out there. Thanks

Tarkvosky's ingenious.
18 September 2017
I have been watching foreign movies for more than 2 years and using IMDb for over 3 years but i had never a chance or the temptation to write a review but this movie...Tarkvosky's ingenious Anderi Rublev made me to write a review about it. Anderi Rublev is a kind of cinema which will make you feel like a human, like an organism who has the ability to enjoy a thing called film. This movie has everything that you have not seen or did not have the chance of experiencing...this movie has some breath taking scenes and sentences. At last i'd say that if you ever have 3 hours free in your lifetime and have an inner most hidden wish to see some quality stuff then choose this movie. Thanks
