One Tree Hill (2003)
Greatest Teen Drama Ever Made
One Tree Hill shattered all my expectations I had for it.
Being a guy, I didn't think seriously of this show. I thought it was a girly drama that I'd get bored of after a couple episodes.
However, I believe One Tree Hill is the best show of its kind--certainly that I've seen. The plot throughout the entire show is phenomenal. I fell in love with the characters and their journeys. The first few seasons are some of my favorite in television.
One great thing about the show is that it was made back in the early 2000s. It has scenes and words that would never be used in modern shows, especially ones for teens. To be frank, it was made during a time where society wasn't as sensitive.
All in all, without going into any detail of course, One Tree Hill quickly climbed the ranks in my top shows to watch. It's definitely a show I wish I could watch again without knowing what happens.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Perhaps the most incredible TV show ever made
I think it's safe to say Game of Thrones will go down in history as one of, if not the, greatest show(s) of all time. This is a story told with magnificent complexity to it. Fantasy, reality, fiction--a little bit of everything--are balanced perfectly to create Game of Thrones.
So many plots, settings, characters and stories are being told and built at once in different parts of the world, but all are interconnected. At the beginning I was a little overwhelmed with all the characters--their unique, unusual names and lineages made it hard to follow. Eventually it all came together, and I was enamored with the characters, attached to them. The character development in this show is truly phenomenal.
I have not mentioned the absolute SHOCK Game of Thrones will instill in the viewer. Never have I seen a show with so many unpredictable twists and turns. The show spared no person, place or thing for greatness in storytelling. Everyone and everything is expendable.
Be warned: if you watch this show, a part of you will be empty inside when it's over. I miss it so much already.
Teen Wolf (2011)
Teen Wolf went from Great ---> Good -----> what show am I watching?!?
I watched this show when it debuted, and boy was it good. It had me on the edge of my seat every episode; it had me brainstorming the logic behind whatever the show left me to figure out during each new episode. I waited anxiously for next week's debut to MAYBE see if my predictions were correct. I remember going on forums to discuss the rationale behind my theories and reading others'. The producers had a great plot on their hands and I loved every bit of it.
That's how the show started: exciting adventures that built anticipation and mystery until finally unveiling the question every viewer wanted to know but couldn't figure out. Sadly--very, very sadly--this creative genius didn't last very long.
I completed the series today (I stopped watching the new episodes around season 5, roughly 5 years ago) and I remember why now. The show got so ridiculous, which I don't like saying because it has a special place in my viewing heart, but there's no kinder way to say it. Toward the last three seasons I was more puzzled and confused as to what in the world was going on than I was entertained. Also, Scott's journey as the protagonist was absolutely disappointing to say the least.
Simply put, the show went from logical, plot-building story lines to a sheer barrage of producer madness with no explanation. I still give it 8* because of its nostalgic-ness to me and the greatness of seasons 1 and 2.
Sons of Anarchy (2008)
One of the best
Sons of Anarchy is one of the greatest shows of all time. I just finished it today--a little late, I know. It took me about forty days to get through the first episode to the last episode. I had to be very conservative, vowing to watch no more than two episodes a night, which didn't work out very well.
Sons of Anarchy did an incredible job of keeping things interesting from the beginning to the end. I suspected the show would lose its sparkle as it progressed, but it only seemed to get brighter. Pay full attention when you watch. You won't want to miss a second.
Watch with care. Enjoy every minute of it. I wish I could watch it again without knowing what happened. It's one of those.
Logan (2017)
It doesn't get any better than Logan. A MUST SEE!
I went in with a massive bias against superhero/fantasy movies. I don't care for them. I haven't seen a single X-Men movie. The last superhero movie I watched was probably ten years ago. I simply don't like them. The only reason I went to see Logan was because my friend had an extra ticket. I almost didn't go.
How glad I am that I went. I can't give spoilers, so I'll keep this to my rating only. This movie was perfect. It started off a bit slow, but interesting nonetheless. I was dozing off due to my bias, being slightly tired, and not having any knowledge of the characters. As the story progressed--no more than fifteen minutes in--I was engaged fully. By the end of the movie I was in disbelief. I didn't want it to end. It is a perfectly-constructed movie. The acting--especially Laura's--is amazing. I didn't even know the characters at all and I still was immersed in their stories. It's one of those movies where no actor could have been replaced and had the same outcome. The plot is just as amazing as the acting. A perfect story line that will leave viewers in shock by the time it's finished.
If you know any of the story behind these characters, I can't imagine how much better the movie will be. I feel like my life is better after watching Logan. It's a strange feeling, really. THE PERFECT MOVIE. My favorite movie of all time is Braveheart. If it weren't for my bias keeping Braveheart at #1, I'd say Logan is the greatest movie ever made.
P.S. If you can, don't watch it in theaters. Unless, of course, you can still feel the same emotions with hundreds of people around. Save this experience for the right time. It's one for the ages.
Braveheart (1995)
The best movie of all-time
Braveheart is truly the greatest movie of all-time. It is a three hour masterpiece that makes the perfect story of a fight for freedom. I saw this movie for the first time about three years ago. I loved it then, but I love it even more now. Obviously the excitement of not knowing what was going to happen was gone, but I have a great desire for real-life freedom now, so it made me really connect with William Wallace and his cause.
Wallace was just a normal guy who didn't have the motivation to defy tyranny. He knew his freedom was being limited by the government of England, but it wasn't until it happened to him personally that it empowered him to do something about it. The speech he makes on the battlefield before the first battle gave me the chills because Wallace says that freedom is more important than life itself. That is a huge statement to me. He would rather have his life taken before he ever lost his freedom. This movie is the epitome of how important freedom is and the passion Wallace had to give Scotland its freedom from England's overbearing government is realistic and exemplary for all of history. I thank Mel Gibson and everyone else who helped make this movie. It is the most inspirational, courageous, and powerful movie I have ever seen.
Saved by the Bell (1989)
Greatest Teens' TV Show of All Time
Saved by the Bell simply is the greatest kids'/teens' show of all time. Every single episode, apart from the Miss Bliss season, is entertaining. The actors and their characters are amazing and make the show work perfectly. The show's episodes almost always have a theme of friendship. No matter what happens the group will be friends forever. It's a very lighthearted, fun show. I remember watching it every morning (7:00-7:30, and the the next three time slots if I faked sick ;), before school when I was in seventh and eighth grade. I just finished watching it on Netflix the other week and boy, it brings back some good memories. I don't know why it has a 7/10, though. Apparently every reviewer is a renowned critic. The show was never supposed to thrive because of spectacular acting; it was supposed to thrive off of its great cast and great themes/plots. Every episode was something new, and very rarely was there a continuity. All in all, this show is great. It makes the viewer happy. If you ever need to cheer up, turn on Saved by the Bell. :)
