Liger (2022)
Cringe Ultra Pro Max
I have never rated any movie so low but Liger gave me no choice. I want to tone down my criticisms but this movie tested my patience and senses to sit through the runtime.
This movie screams Puri Jagannath. Outdated storyline, cringey and hammy performances from everybody except maybe Ronit Roy. Bad dialogues, predictable screenplay. The love story (if you can even call it one) misses the mark completely. Ananya Pandey's character is written especially poorly and of course, the performance is even worse.
The creators saw KGF and tried to push the mother-son dynamic but it is so unnecessarily loud. Ramya (mother) screams her way through the movie.
I cannot understand how such projects get massive budgets. There is no saving grace for this movie I'm sorry.
Jaadugar (2022)
Light-hearted fun. Nothing less, nothing more :)
Simple, humble and heartfelt. Nice performances by the entire cast. Cute and innocent writing by Biswapati Sarkar. The trailer promised a simple, laid-back, no deep messaging movie and it was exactly that. Of course it's not as outstanding as other TVF projects but is still quite likeable. Delivers an enjoyable movie experience.
Mimi (2021)
Worth the watch
The movie revolves around surrogacy, its possible medical and social impacts. The story may not be the best but the actors have done a fabulous job. Pankaj Tripathi has given yet another masterpiece and, in my view, he stole the show. However, all the actors, with small or large roles, have given memorable performances.
The movie is decently paced with well-placed gags and emotional sequences. It keeps the audience engaged. One can feel the turbulent emotions going through the people involved.
The music and the background score are spot on. AR Rahman doesn't disappoint. The direction and screenplay are good.
Overall this film entertains and makes you think. I'd say it's worth a watch at least.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
Works as 2 extra episodes of BB
The movie feels great just after watching the series. On it's own as a movie, it is okay but one would really enjoy it as a continuation after watching the last episode of BB.
To their credit, the acting, camera work and direction is on-point. I personally found it to be slow paced after watching it on 1.5x but to be fair, the whole series is also the exact same style. A little slow-paced for my taste but still good.
The highlight for me are the characters. They are written and played flawlessly. Overall a nice end to a nice series.
Bhaag Beanie Bhaag: Episode 1 (2020)
Super predictable, bad direction and screenplay
I regularly watch standups and really follow the Indian standup circuit. Was excited about getting insights and good plotline but utterly disappointed. Varun's first time as a lead actor in this mess makes me sad. Ravi Patel and him were the reason I finished watching this episode. The episode was overall quite predictable and boring. Honestly, Swara and Dolly Singh are plain bad. Their characters do not feel genuine for a second. I sat through this one episode but cannot watch more of this, sorry.
Laal Kaptaan (2019)
Engaging narrative, powerful performances
Engaging movie with a good narrative. Powerful performances by the cast, especially Saif and the widow. Good screenplay. Worth a watch. These ventures in Bollywood need to be appreciated and encouraged more often.
The Last Airbender (2010)
I would rather watch a blank screen for 10 days
This movie is so dreadful, no words can justify it. The dialogues and casting cannot be worse even if you tried. I love the show so much, but this movie is just so so terrible and boring. Why do they pronouce Aang and Sokka wrong?! Those are literally the main characters you need to get right. Characters are completely wrongly potrayed, the acting is the worst, and do not get me started about the bending.
Please save yourself some trouble. Do not watch this pile of garbage. I would not even recommend this to my enemies.
Stree (2018)
Amazing writing, good performances
The movie is refreshing from the same old bollywood masala or seductive horror films. Great script and amazing acting performances (except Shraddha Kapoor).
The writers have done an amazing job. Great dialogues. The script is tight with a lot of punchlines. Every actor in this movie has done justice to their role, landed their punchlines and have given life to these characters with the exception of Shraddha Kapoor. She is the single poor actor in this film. Completely unconvincing acting, poor dialogue delivery and blank expressions throughout.
The movie has few messages which are nicely included in the script. Few subtle political satires as well. Few I remember include the cow problem in India, peacock tear reproduction statement by a minister, Aadhar card details leak, etc.
The element of comedy attracts a much larger audience. Even if you don't like horror, this movie will entertain you.
Pushpavalli (2017)
Enjoyed everything but the storyline
Great web series by a number of very talented people. Individual performances are really good, even the smaller roles were commendable. It's great in bits and pieces. Characters are well written and performed. The best part or the main highlight of the series for me was the duo of Urooj and Sumaira. Such awesome characters played beautifully. The PG lady was hilarious too.
Only complaint is the story line. A better story could've made this series something else given the amount of talented people involved.
