Intriguing, and thought provoking.
2 November 2015
I honestly didn't exactly know what I was getting into heading into this one. But to a pleasant surprise, this one surprised me. The acting in this film was solid, and I felt as if the actors really had heart for their characters they played. The characters we're given are unique, at times, however, presented on multiple levels with small shards of clichés, but overall entertaining, and unique enough to hold us off. The overall story I honestly felt it to be surprising. It had a good premise to where it introduces twists, and small surprises that satisfied. The story, and or premise also had some creative offerings, giving some eye opening take-ons. Keeping this review very short, the film overall was successful in holding the attention of us, audience. It was unique, refreshing, and for the most part the given story was thought provoking, new, and fresh. The plus-elements including the characters and such succeeded as well, adding onto the film's success. This was a great, pleasantly surprising thriller, if you can see it, I'd recommend doing so.

Liar, Liar, Vampire (2015 TV Movie)
5/10
Great fun, big lesson.
17 October 2015
This film manages to deliver a big lesson for it's audience, that lesson delivering to a great impact that leaves a mark for sure. The film has an interesting plot. A boy moves to this new town, and usually doesn't fit in. Finding his chance to finally win over what he's always wanted - to fit in, he resorts to faking, he must, now, do what it takes to keep it that way. I felt as if the lesson, overall that ties in with the plot was powerful, a well lesson to deliver. The film manages to deliver said lesson in a fun, unique way that surely entertains the audience. I personally thought this film would be just another Nickelodeon trash film, but was wrong, pleasantly surprised. The film, as it continues manages to win the audience over with charming characters, who of which's actors deliver smooth, and succeed in strong emphasis toward their characters. The film's moral, or lesson, once again, delivered strongly. But at the same time in a fun, clean way. This film was watched out of boredom. And it surprised me. I'd recommend this whenever it pops up again. It's entertaining, and has a nice charm. It has succeeded in it's moral, and over all sense of uniqueness!

The Hallow (2015)
7/10
Above average.
17 October 2015
I felt as if this film needs to be praised as it carried out a very well execution for such an overused plot. You have your typical "family stuck in the middle of nowhere, creature activity" gimmick, fortunately played out smoothly in "The Hallow" I felt as if the characters were well acted, and had a nice potential going for them. We, audience actually cared for our characters, we cared for whether they died, or lived, something many horror movies with similar plot fail to do. As said before, the film has a clichéd plot, but this film manages to lift the cliché, turning it into a unique, new, refreshing event of execution. I felt as if, with the plot, the story, and events the characters were faced with was quite well, ans once again well played out. Finally, I was personally pleased with the creature appearances, I felt as if they did great for what they stood for, and I also enjoyed, along the lines, the depth of which the film created for them. They came out creepy, and succeeded in giving the audience tension.

This film succeeds in many good horror movie elements, and it also succeeds in giving some nice charm, as well. The film, also, explains itself, and turns a horror cliché into something more. Highly recommended.

Limited due to it's rating.
27 July 2015
Possession films in the past such as "The Devil Inside" have proved to be sick, and freak out the audience with the display of it's demonic possession. PG-13 possession films have proved to be quite sick, and perhaps good as well, hence "The Last Exorcism". This possession film, "The Vatican Tapes" comes out solid, but tends to be quite clichéd.

Starting off with the story of this film, of which seems to be quite simple. Our main character becomes possessed, and it progressively gets worse, and worse overtime. Her family, with the aid of some priests must figure out what's wrong and stop it. It seems very simple, but the way the story is executed in this film was very solid, for what it was, a simple, straight to the point plot. As the story continues, we get more in depth with the demons personality, per say. We get to see what it can do, and how it possesses it's powers to it's advantage. Overall, the story / plot is quite simple, but without spoiling anything, the movie carries it all out solidly, holding it's grasp.

The acting of this film, in my opinion was fine. Just fine. We get some pretty decent actors combining together in this film, which is great and all, but the situations they had to face lead they're acting to be a bit sketchy at points. Some parts of the film, for example when the actors fall back, scared, you kind of stare at the movie asking yourself .. "What?" Parts of which they DO seem serious, just seems funny toward the audience watching. In this case, they SEEM to be overacting when certain points come, but are actually not, instead are seeming that way due to the specific situation they're being put in. But in conclusion to this element, the situations that came to horror [ The scares, exorcism, etc. ] it was fine, not fantastic.

The scares of this movie, is defiantly something to conclude with. It's pretty much clichéd. You've pretty much seen this tactic in many films before. Dose this perhaps ring a bell? A bird flying at the window? Through it? Yea. We've seen this before, at least once. There's also, once again, without spoiling anything some other scares that have been seen before, on top of that, some of them are even horribly placed in time, making a failed attempt at scaring the audience, instead of scaring them, giving them a laugh even. There are also some scares floating around that will make you jump, but then when you realize what it was that made you jump, you'd ask yourself "How did that scare me!?" Either way, the point being there are few, to no scares that will get you deep in the core in this film. In conclusion, if your looking to get scared, from either tension itself, it won't happen. If you want an ear blasting loud noise, here you go! Another cliché method themed film filled with those!

In conclusion. The movie had simple flaws of which are extremely clichéd, however, the movie held grip with a solid execution, as well as some decent demonic possession methods. It dose hold many elements you typically see in other possession films, sure, but it was solid, and managed to keep the audience entertained. One way or another. It wasn't that bad of a film, but it lacked in critical horror elements, like scares, and tension. As there were none. But never the less, this horror flick was not bad at all. Just.. flawed deeply, and held back due to it's PG-13 rating.

Dark Summer (2015)
7/10
Paces itself into a meaningful horror movie..
14 July 2015
"Dark Summer" is a bit slow, but manages to lead itself to success, execution a unique, cool horror film that pays off.

First for the plot of this film. I honestly felt as if it was unique and fresh, the plot / story all together has a lot to offer, all of which leading to a pleasant experience if you look it the right direction. The plot also successfully manages to intertwine multiple sub-genres of horror, including cyber, gore / blood, and paranormal. As the plot progressed more, and more throughout the film, it has some interesting turns as well. Instead of keeping it straight up horror, the story lead towards more depth in the story, which cleared some things out some may of missed. It takes a somewhat mystery genre-like turn, as said before digging deeper into the story of the film, becoming pleasant, and giving the viewer more, and more to look forward to in terms of the events of the movie, as well as the plot / storyline itself.

For the characters of the film, however; The film, honestly didn't go too in depth with this element. The film kept the characters, in a way, a bit secluded from the audience knowing much of them, they're backgrounds, life stories, etc. We didn't exactly get too much information on some of the specific actions of which the characters did, as well as some things of which they portrayed in certain scenes. [ Which won't be spoiled of course ] However, if you simply view the characters by there actions, choices, etc. they were quite solid. Each character, also had quite a unique personality, as far as the audience could experience. They each seemed to have a unique, and likable personality's each. Overall, the characters had neat, and fresh personalities, with little, to no clichés. They're acting towards they're characters noticeably had emphasis. In this case, was good. Overall nicely done, likable characters, and good acting. Just not as much depth, and understandings as executed toward the plot.

Finally for the visual effects of the movie. For what it was, and what was there, it was intriguing to say the least. This movie had very unique visual effects, of which introduce some unique new horror visuals. As said before, the film succeeds in intertwining many sub-genres of horror, of which lead to more wide spread amounts of visual potential, of which here were defiantly not missed! The visual gore in this movie wasn't bad. The film succeeds in showing the audience, not the biggest amount of blood, and gore, but what seems to be just enough. As the film progresses, the paranormal entity(ies) shown, as well weren't bad, but in terms of the ghosts of which were shown, they weren't the best, but as said before just right, fitting right in along with the story. In conclusion, the visual effects fit in with the story, and work for what they were. They seemed just right in terms of the film, displaying some unique eye candy along the way.

In conclusion. "Dark Summer" displayed some unique, and fresh new execution in terms of much needed movie elements. The acting, as well as the characters were enjoyable, and fine for what they were. The visual effects were great, and fit right in. Overall, turning out to be one entertaining horror film! But as said before. Depending on how you view the film. Not all horror fans will enjoy this, I may add, again, as said before, this film is a bit slow, and tends to drag, but leads to story depth. But if you're different, I'd recommend this to any, of not all horror fans looking for a unique, fresh take on the genre.

Jinn (2014)
5/10
A pro / con type of movie.
11 April 2015
So let's talk about this movie "Jinn" seems quite legit from looks. Interesting, cliffhanger - like poster, intriguing trailer, and overall movie successful looks, but the real answers and opinions lie within the movie of which you must watch. This movie is a 50/50.

First off, the budget of the film. In my opinion it looks well spent. The budget visually paid off as the movie displays interesting climax, beautifully done shots, decent actors, etc. etc. Overall, the movie has a well spent, successful budget that visually gives us a beautiful movie, from start, to finish. That's a huge, pleasing pro in this movie.

Next, the acting of this movie. As previously said, the acting is decent, or in this case, well done. Successfully, the actors pull off they're given acts, along with believable characters when it comes to various emotions. But sadly, there's a dark side to this one. The overall characters in this film are never truly explained. Or in this case, there is little to no character background, so through out this movie you know nothing really of the characters, giving us audience less of a true care, or feel for them.. which in reality is a huge waste of what could of been truly done. Overall though, it was what it was.

Now comes the overall story of the movie. And before I start this off, I must say, it's pretty much a con. The story in this case is a massive blow to what could of been a good film. It's simply clichéd. It's been seen before! And we sadly have to watch this beautiful cinematography, acting, and CGI smash into this clichéd story! It's as if the story took off bits, and pieces of more successful films, piecing them together, and coming out with this. I can safely say if this movie wasn't as simplistic as what it was, I would of hated it. Badly. The story, and or the film was also horrible when it came to thrills, and scares. Constant, uneventful jump scares were thrown, and "thrilling" parts of this film were mediocre tries. Resulting in a failure, or in this case another massive blow to the film.

Finally, this movie was an "Eh - Eh" deal. It was entertaining, and pretty much simplistic .. besides the story. But other then that, this film wasn't THAT bad. But it still suffered a massive blow, sinking it completely. I'd recommend it! .. If your extremely bored, and have nothing else to do. But honestly, it's sad to see some great elements go to waste in this clichéd movie blow.

Shock Attack (2015)
1/10
The only thing shocking here is that I watched it.
9 April 2015
So let's talk about this little film called "Shock Attack" First off, the story of the movie has been done before, pretty much giving us a flat out cliché of a story, A scientific mistake takes a toll, going horribly wrong, sending a group of people to go, and stop it. We have seen that in a lot of other movies..

Next, the budget of this movie seriously flaws this entire thing, giving us an atrocious looking appearance, tying in shaky, nauseating camera angles, and motions, horrible lighting that looks as if it's being shot by a 2001 video camera. And extremely annoying sound effects, flipping to low, unclear audio to ear blasting loudness! It also effects the lines of the characters, quickly flipping from character, to character.. causing the characters to be cut off, or pause too long. Finally, it also has an annoying echo with voice, giving us nothing but lines that bounce off the walls at times.

Now, the acting. Do I need to explain it? The acting was not good. Some lines, and convocations were clichéd and / or cheesy, the actors seemed to have no emphasis for they're lines, and they just seemed to be zoned out, seemingly giving absolutely no effort or care into they're characters at all. Finally, when drastic times came for drastic measures, once again, they seemed too not care one bit for what they were doing / acting.

Finally, let's get to the main course! The creature! Which, like the rest of this movie, bombed. The creature was crap. I'm sorry. It just was, most of the time you saw a black - like shadow fumbling around the water, but when actual glimpses were seen, it was horrible. The CGI, like this movie was atrocious, once again showing that the budget of this movie completely bombed what could of been a decent little film.

In conclusion, this was a complete waste of time. It shocked me that I actually sat around, hoping for something good. But. I was highly disappointed. I really can't recommend this to anyone. It's a MASSIVE waste of time, showing us nothing but a low - budget, cliché fest.
